CHAPTER1

1NowafterthedeathofMosestheservantoftheLORDit cametopass,thattheLORDspakeuntoJoshuathesonof Nun,Moses'minister,saying, 2Mosesmyservantisdead;nowthereforearise,goover thisJordan,thou,andallthispeople,untothelandwhichI dogivetothem,eventothechildrenofIsrael.

3Everyplacethatthesoleofyourfootshalltreadupon, thathaveIgivenuntoyou,asIsaiduntoMoses

4FromthewildernessandthisLebanonevenuntothe greatriver,theriverEuphrates,allthelandoftheHittites, anduntothegreatseatowardthegoingdownofthesun, shallbeyourcoast.

5Thereshallnotanymanbeabletostandbeforetheeall thedaysofthylife:asIwaswithMoses,soIwillbewith thee:Iwillnotfailthee,norforsakethee.

6Bestrongandofagoodcourage:foruntothispeople shaltthoudivideforaninheritancetheland,whichIsware untotheirfatherstogivethem.

7Onlybethoustrongandverycourageous,thatthou mayestobservetodoaccordingtoallthelaw,which Mosesmyservantcommandedthee:turnnotfromittothe righthandortotheleft,thatthoumayestprosper whithersoeverthougoest

8Thisbookofthelawshallnotdepartoutofthymouth; butthoushaltmeditatethereindayandnight,thatthou mayestobservetodoaccordingtoallthatiswrittentherein: forthenthoushaltmakethywayprosperous,andthenthou shalthavegoodsuccess

9HavenotIcommandedthee?Bestrongandofagood courage;benotafraid,neitherbethoudismayed:forthe LORDthyGodiswiththeewhithersoeverthougoest

10ThenJoshuacommandedtheofficersofthepeople, saying,

11Passthroughthehost,andcommandthepeople,saying, Prepareyouvictuals;forwithinthreedaysyeshallpass overthisJordan,togointopossesstheland,whichthe LORDyourGodgivethyoutopossessit

12AndtotheReubenites,andtotheGadites,andtohalf thetribeofManasseh,spakeJoshua,saying,

13RememberthewordwhichMosestheservantofthe LORDcommandedyou,saying,TheLORDyourGodhath givenyourest,andhathgivenyouthisland

14Yourwives,yourlittleones,andyourcattle,shall remaininthelandwhichMosesgaveyouonthisside Jordan;butyeshallpassbeforeyourbrethrenarmed,all themightymenofvalour,andhelpthem;

15UntiltheLORDhavegivenyourbrethrenrest,ashe hathgivenyou,andtheyalsohavepossessedtheland whichtheLORDyourGodgiveththem:thenyeshall returnuntothelandofyourpossession,andenjoyit,which MosestheLORD'SservantgaveyouonthissideJordan towardthesunrising

16AndtheyansweredJoshua,saying,Allthatthou commandestuswewilldo,andwhithersoeverthousendest us,wewillgo

17AccordingaswehearkeneduntoMosesinallthings,so willwehearkenuntothee:onlytheLORDthyGodbewith thee,ashewaswithMoses

18Whosoeverhebethatdothrebelagainstthy commandment,andwillnothearkenuntothywordsinall thatthoucommandesthim,heshallbeputtodeath:onlybe strongandofagoodcourage

CHAPTER2

1AndJoshuathesonofNunsentoutofShittimtwomen tospysecretly,saying,Goviewtheland,evenJericho. Andtheywent,andcameintoanharlot'shouse,named Rahab,andlodgedthere

2AnditwastoldthekingofJericho,saying,Behold,there camemeninhithertonightofthechildrenofIsraelto searchoutthecountry

3AndthekingofJerichosentuntoRahab,saying,Bring forththementhatarecometothee,whichareenteredinto thinehouse:fortheybecometosearchoutallthecountry 4Andthewomantookthetwomen,andhidthem,andsaid thus,Therecamemenuntome,butIwistnotwhencethey were:

5Anditcametopassaboutthetimeofshuttingofthegate, whenitwasdark,thatthemenwentout:whitherthemen wentIwotnot:pursueafterthemquickly;foryeshall overtakethem.

6Butshehadbroughtthemuptotheroofofthehouse,and hidthemwiththestalksofflax,whichshehadlaidinorder upontheroof.

7AndthemenpursuedafterthemthewaytoJordanunto thefords:andassoonastheywhichpursuedafterthem weregoneout,theyshutthegate

8Andbeforetheywerelaiddown,shecameupuntothem upontheroof;

9Andshesaiduntothemen,IknowthattheLORDhath givenyoutheland,andthatyourterrorisfallenuponus, andthatalltheinhabitantsofthelandfaintbecauseofyou.

10ForwehaveheardhowtheLORDdriedupthewaterof theRedseaforyou,whenyecameoutofEgypt;andwhat yediduntothetwokingsoftheAmorites,thatwereonthe othersideJordan,SihonandOg,whomyeutterly destroyed

11Andassoonaswehadheardthesethings,ourheartsdid melt,neitherdidthereremainanymorecourageinany man,becauseofyou:fortheLORDyourGod,heisGodin heavenabove,andinearthbeneath.

12Nowtherefore,Iprayyou,swearuntomebytheLORD, sinceIhaveshewedyoukindness,thatyewillalsoshew kindnessuntomyfather'shouse,andgivemeatruetoken:

13Andthatyewillsavealivemyfather,andmymother, andmybrethren,andmysisters,andallthattheyhave,and deliverourlivesfromdeath.

14Andthemenansweredher,Ourlifeforyours,ifyeutter notthisourbusinessAnditshallbe,whentheLORDhath givenustheland,thatwewilldealkindlyandtrulywith thee

15Thensheletthemdownbyacordthroughthewindow: forherhousewasuponthetownwall,andshedweltupon thewall

16Andshesaiduntothem,Getyoutothemountain,lest thepursuersmeetyou;andhideyourselvestherethreedays, untilthepursuersbereturned:andafterwardmayyego yourway

17Andthemensaiduntoher,Wewillbeblamelessofthis thineoathwhichthouhastmadeusswear

JOSHUA

18Behold,whenwecomeintotheland,thoushaltbind thislineofscarletthreadinthewindowwhichthoudidst letusdownby:andthoushaltbringthyfather,andthy mother,andthybrethren,andallthyfather'shousehold, homeuntothee.

19Anditshallbe,thatwhosoevershallgooutofthedoors ofthyhouseintothestreet,hisbloodshallbeuponhis head,andwewillbeguiltless:andwhosoevershallbewith theeinthehouse,hisbloodshallbeonourhead,ifany handbeuponhim

20Andifthouutterthisourbusiness,thenwewillbequit ofthineoathwhichthouhastmadeustoswear

21Andshesaid,Accordinguntoyourwords,sobeitAnd shesentthemaway,andtheydeparted:andsheboundthe scarletlineinthewindow

22Andtheywent,andcameuntothemountain,andabode therethreedays,untilthepursuerswerereturned:andthe pursuerssoughtthemthroughoutalltheway,butfound themnot

23Sothetwomenreturned,anddescendedfromthe mountain,andpassedover,andcametoJoshuathesonof Nun,andtoldhimallthingsthatbefellthem:

24AndtheysaiduntoJoshua,TrulytheLORDhath deliveredintoourhandsalltheland;forevenallthe inhabitantsofthecountrydofaintbecauseofus

CHAPTER3

1AndJoshuaroseearlyinthemorning;andtheyremoved fromShittim,andcametoJordan,heandallthechildrenof Israel,andlodgedtherebeforetheypassedover

2Anditcametopassafterthreedays,thattheofficers wentthroughthehost;

3Andtheycommandedthepeople,saying,Whenyesee thearkofthecovenantoftheLORDyourGod,andthe prieststheLevitesbearingit,thenyeshallremovefrom yourplace,andgoafterit

4Yetthereshallbeaspacebetweenyouandit,abouttwo thousandcubitsbymeasure:comenotnearuntoit,thatye mayknowthewaybywhichyemustgo:foryehavenot passedthiswayheretofore.

5AndJoshuasaiduntothepeople,Sanctifyyourselves:for tomorrowtheLORDwilldowondersamongyou.

6AndJoshuaspakeuntothepriests,saying,Takeupthe arkofthecovenant,andpassoverbeforethepeopleAnd theytookupthearkofthecovenant,andwentbeforethe people

7AndtheLORDsaiduntoJoshua,ThisdaywillIbeginto magnifytheeinthesightofallIsrael,thattheymayknow that,asIwaswithMoses,soIwillbewiththee 8Andthoushaltcommandtheprieststhatbearthearkof thecovenant,saying,Whenyearecometothebrinkofthe waterofJordan,yeshallstandstillinJordan

9AndJoshuasaiduntothechildrenofIsrael,Comehither, andhearthewordsoftheLORDyourGod.

10AndJoshuasaid,Herebyyeshallknowthattheliving Godisamongyou,andthathewillwithoutfaildriveout frombeforeyoutheCanaanites,andtheHittites,andthe Hivites,andthePerizzites,andtheGirgashites,andthe Amorites,andtheJebusites

11Behold,thearkofthecovenantoftheLordofallthe earthpassethoverbeforeyouintoJordan

12Nowthereforetakeyoutwelvemenoutofthetribesof Israel,outofeverytribeaman

13Anditshallcometopass,assoonasthesolesofthe feetoftheprieststhatbearthearkoftheLORD,theLord ofalltheearth,shallrestinthewatersofJordan,thatthe watersofJordanshallbecutofffromthewatersthatcome downfromabove;andtheyshallstanduponanheap

14Anditcametopass,whenthepeopleremovedfrom theirtents,topassoverJordan,andthepriestsbearingthe arkofthecovenantbeforethepeople;

15AndastheythatbarethearkwerecomeuntoJordan, andthefeetoftheprieststhatbarethearkweredippedin thebrimofthewater,(forJordanoverflowethallhisbanks allthetimeofharvest,)

16Thatthewaterswhichcamedownfromabovestoodand roseupuponanheapveryfarfromthecityAdam,thatis besideZaretan:andthosethatcamedowntowardtheseaof theplain,eventhesaltsea,failed,andwerecutoff:andthe peoplepassedoverrightagainstJericho

17Andtheprieststhatbarethearkofthecovenantofthe LORDstoodfirmondrygroundinthemidstofJordan, andalltheIsraelitespassedoverondryground,untilall thepeoplewerepassedcleanoverJordan.

CHAPTER4

1Anditcametopass,whenallthepeoplewereclean passedoverJordan,thattheLORDspakeuntoJoshua, saying,

2Takeyoutwelvemenoutofthepeople,outofeverytribe aman,

3Andcommandyethem,saying,Takeyouhenceoutof themidstofJordan,outoftheplacewherethepriests'feet stoodfirm,twelvestones,andyeshallcarrythemover withyou,andleavetheminthelodgingplace,whereye shalllodgethisnight

4ThenJoshuacalledthetwelvemen,whomhehad preparedofthechildrenofIsrael,outofeverytribeaman: 5AndJoshuasaiduntothem,Passoverbeforethearkof theLORDyourGodintothemidstofJordan,andtakeye upeverymanofyouastoneuponhisshoulder,according untothenumberofthetribesofthechildrenofIsrael: 6Thatthismaybeasignamongyou,thatwhenyour childrenasktheirfathersintimetocome,saying,What meanyebythesestones?

7Thenyeshallanswerthem,ThatthewatersofJordan werecutoffbeforethearkofthecovenantoftheLORD; whenitpassedoverJordan,thewatersofJordanwerecut off:andthesestonesshallbeforamemorialuntothe childrenofIsraelforever

8AndthechildrenofIsraeldidsoasJoshuacommanded, andtookuptwelvestonesoutofthemidstofJordan,asthe LORDspakeuntoJoshua,accordingtothenumberofthe tribesofthechildrenofIsrael,andcarriedthemoverwith themuntotheplacewheretheylodged,andlaidthem downthere

9AndJoshuasetuptwelvestonesinthemidstofJordan, intheplacewherethefeetofthepriestswhichbaretheark ofthecovenantstood:andtheyarethereuntothisday 10Forthepriestswhichbarethearkstoodinthemidstof Jordan,untileverythingwasfinishedthattheLORD commandedJoshuatospeakuntothepeople,accordingto

allthatMosescommandedJoshua:andthepeoplehasted andpassedover

11Anditcametopass,whenallthepeoplewereclean passedover,thatthearkoftheLORDpassedover,andthe priests,inthepresenceofthepeople.

12AndthechildrenofReuben,andthechildrenofGad, andhalfthetribeofManasseh,passedoverarmedbefore thechildrenofIsrael,asMosesspakeuntothem: 13Aboutfortythousandpreparedforwarpassedover beforetheLORDuntobattle,totheplainsofJericho

14OnthatdaytheLORDmagnifiedJoshuainthesightof allIsrael;andtheyfearedhim,astheyfearedMoses,allthe daysofhislife

15AndtheLORDspakeuntoJoshua,saying,

16Commandtheprieststhatbearthearkofthetestimony, thattheycomeupoutofJordan

17Joshuathereforecommandedthepriests,saying,Come yeupoutofJordan

18Anditcametopass,whentheprieststhatbaretheark ofthecovenantoftheLORDwerecomeupoutofthe midstofJordan,andthesolesofthepriests'feetwerelifted upuntothedryland,thatthewatersofJordanreturned untotheirplace,andflowedoverallhisbanks,astheydid before

19AndthepeoplecameupoutofJordanonthetenthday ofthefirstmonth,andencampedinGilgal,intheeast borderofJericho

20Andthosetwelvestones,whichtheytookoutofJordan, didJoshuapitchinGilgal.

21AndhespakeuntothechildrenofIsrael,saying,When yourchildrenshallasktheirfathersintimetocome,saying, Whatmeanthesestones?

22Thenyeshallletyourchildrenknow,saying,Israel cameoverthisJordanondryland

23FortheLORDyourGoddriedupthewatersofJordan frombeforeyou,untilyewerepassedover,astheLORD yourGoddidtotheRedsea,whichhedriedupfrom beforeus,untilweweregoneover:

24Thatallthepeopleoftheearthmightknowthehandof theLORD,thatitismighty:thatyemightfeartheLORD yourGodforever.

CHAPTER5

1Anditcametopass,whenallthekingsoftheAmorites, whichwereonthesideofJordanwestward,andallthe kingsoftheCanaanites,whichwerebythesea,heardthat theLORDhaddriedupthewatersofJordanfrombefore thechildrenofIsrael,untilwewerepassedover,thattheir heartmelted,neitherwastherespiritinthemanymore, becauseofthechildrenofIsrael

2AtthattimetheLORDsaiduntoJoshua,Makethee sharpknives,andcircumciseagainthechildrenofIsrael thesecondtime

3AndJoshuamadehimsharpknives,andcircumcisedthe childrenofIsraelatthehilloftheforeskins

4AndthisisthecausewhyJoshuadidcircumcise:Allthe peoplethatcameoutofEgypt,thatweremales,evenallthe menofwar,diedinthewildernessbytheway,afterthey cameoutofEgypt

5Nowallthepeoplethatcameoutwerecircumcised:but allthepeoplethatwereborninthewildernessbytheway

astheycameforthoutofEgypt,themtheyhadnot circumcised

6ForthechildrenofIsraelwalkedfortyyearsinthe wilderness,tillallthepeoplethatweremenofwar,which cameoutofEgypt,wereconsumed,becausetheyobeyed notthevoiceoftheLORD:untowhomtheLORDsware thathewouldnotshewthemtheland,whichtheLORD swareuntotheirfathersthathewouldgiveus,alandthat flowethwithmilkandhoney.

7Andtheirchildren,whomheraisedupintheirstead, themJoshuacircumcised:fortheywereuncircumcised, becausetheyhadnotcircumcisedthembytheway

8Anditcametopass,whentheyhaddonecircumcisingall thepeople,thattheyabodeintheirplacesinthecamp,till theywerewhole

9AndtheLORDsaiduntoJoshua,ThisdayhaveIrolled awaythereproachofEgyptfromoffyou.Whereforethe nameoftheplaceiscalledGilgaluntothisday

10AndthechildrenofIsraelencampedinGilgal,andkept thepassoveronthefourteenthdayofthemonthatevenin theplainsofJericho

11Andtheydideatoftheoldcornofthelandonthe morrowafterthepassover,unleavenedcakes,andparched cornintheselfsameday

12Andthemannaceasedonthemorrowaftertheyhad eatenoftheoldcornoftheland;neitherhadthechildrenof Israelmannaanymore;buttheydideatofthefruitofthe landofCanaanthatyear

13Anditcametopass,whenJoshuawasbyJericho,that helifteduphiseyesandlooked,and,behold,therestooda manoveragainsthimwithhissworddrawninhishand: andJoshuawentuntohim,andsaiduntohim,Artthoufor us,orforouradversaries?

14Andhesaid,Nay;butascaptainofthehostofthe LORDamInowcome.AndJoshuafellonhisfacetothe earth,anddidworship,andsaiduntohim,Whatsaithmy lorduntohisservant?

15AndthecaptainoftheLORD'ShostsaiduntoJoshua, Loosethyshoefromoffthyfoot;fortheplacewhereon thoustandestisholy.AndJoshuadidso.

CHAPTER6

1NowJerichowasstraitlyshutupbecauseofthechildren ofIsrael:nonewentout,andnonecamein

2AndtheLORDsaiduntoJoshua,See,Ihavegiveninto thinehandJericho,andthekingthereof,andthemighty menofvalour

3Andyeshallcompassthecity,allyemenofwar,andgo roundaboutthecityonceThusshaltthoudosixdays

4Andsevenpriestsshallbearbeforethearkseven trumpetsoframs'horns:andtheseventhdayyeshall compassthecityseventimes,andthepriestsshallblow withthetrumpets

5Anditshallcometopass,thatwhentheymakealong blastwiththeram'shorn,andwhenyehearthesoundof thetrumpet,allthepeopleshallshoutwithagreatshout; andthewallofthecityshallfalldownflat,andthepeople shallascendupeverymanstraightbeforehim

6AndJoshuathesonofNuncalledthepriests,andsaid untothem,Takeupthearkofthecovenant,andletseven priestsbearseventrumpetsoframs'hornsbeforethearkof theLORD

7Andhesaiduntothepeople,Passon,andcompassthe city,andlethimthatisarmedpassonbeforethearkofthe LORD

8Anditcametopass,whenJoshuahadspokenuntothe people,thatthesevenpriestsbearingtheseventrumpetsof rams'hornspassedonbeforetheLORD,andblewwiththe trumpets:andthearkofthecovenantoftheLORD followedthem.

9Andthearmedmenwentbeforetheprieststhatblew withthetrumpets,andthererewardcameaftertheark,the priestsgoingon,andblowingwiththetrumpets.

10AndJoshuahadcommandedthepeople,saying,Ye shallnotshout,normakeanynoisewithyourvoice, neithershallanywordproceedoutofyourmouth,untilthe dayIbidyoushout;thenshallyeshout

11SothearkoftheLORDcompassedthecity,going aboutitonce:andtheycameintothecamp,andlodgedin thecamp

12AndJoshuaroseearlyinthemorning,andthepriests tookupthearkoftheLORD.

13Andsevenpriestsbearingseventrumpetsoframs'horns beforethearkoftheLORDwentoncontinually,andblew withthetrumpets:andthearmedmenwentbeforethem; butthererewardcameafterthearkoftheLORD,the priestsgoingon,andblowingwiththetrumpets

14Andtheseconddaytheycompassedthecityonce,and returnedintothecamp:sotheydidsixdays

15Anditcametopassontheseventhday,thattheyrose earlyaboutthedawningoftheday,andcompassedthecity afterthesamemannerseventimes:onlyonthatdaythey compassedthecityseventimes

16Anditcametopassattheseventhtime,whenthe priestsblewwiththetrumpets,Joshuasaiduntothepeople, Shout;fortheLORDhathgivenyouthecity

17Andthecityshallbeaccursed,evenit,andallthatare therein,totheLORD:onlyRahabtheharlotshalllive,she andallthatarewithherinthehouse,becauseshehidthe messengersthatwesent.

18Andye,inanywisekeepyourselvesfromtheaccursed thing,lestyemakeyourselvesaccursed,whenyetakeof theaccursedthing,andmakethecampofIsraelacurse, andtroubleit

19Butallthesilver,andgold,andvesselsofbrassandiron, areconsecrateduntotheLORD:theyshallcomeintothe treasuryoftheLORD

20Sothepeopleshoutedwhenthepriestsblewwiththe trumpets:anditcametopass,whenthepeopleheardthe soundofthetrumpet,andthepeopleshoutedwithagreat shout,thatthewallfelldownflat,sothatthepeoplewent upintothecity,everymanstraightbeforehim,andthey tookthecity

21Andtheyutterlydestroyedallthatwasinthecity,both manandwoman,youngandold,andox,andsheep,and ass,withtheedgeofthesword

22ButJoshuahadsaiduntothetwomenthathadspiedout thecountry,Gointotheharlot'shouse,andbringout thencethewoman,andallthatshehath,asyeswareunto her.

23Andtheyoungmenthatwerespieswentin,andbrought outRahab,andherfather,andhermother,andherbrethren, andallthatshehad;andtheybroughtoutallherkindred, andleftthemwithoutthecampofIsrael

24Andtheyburntthecitywithfire,andallthatwas therein:onlythesilver,andthegold,andthevesselsof brassandofiron,theyputintothetreasuryofthehouseof theLORD

25AndJoshuasavedRahabtheharlotalive,andher father'shousehold,andallthatshehad;andshedwellethin Israelevenuntothisday;becauseshehidthemessengers, whichJoshuasenttospyoutJericho.

26AndJoshuaadjuredthematthattime,saying,Cursedbe themanbeforetheLORD,thatrisethupandbuildeththis cityJericho:heshalllaythefoundationthereofinhis firstborn,andinhisyoungestsonshallhesetupthegates ofit

27SotheLORDwaswithJoshua;andhisfamewasnoised throughoutallthecountry

CHAPTER7

1ButthechildrenofIsraelcommittedatrespassinthe accursedthing:forAchan,thesonofCarmi,thesonof Zabdi,thesonofZerah,ofthetribeofJudah,tookofthe accursedthing:andtheangeroftheLORDwaskindled againstthechildrenofIsrael.

2AndJoshuasentmenfromJerichotoAi,whichisbeside Bethaven,ontheeastsideofBethel,andspakeuntothem, saying,Goupandviewthecountry.Andthemenwentup andviewedAi

3AndtheyreturnedtoJoshua,andsaiduntohim,Letnot allthepeoplegoup;butletabouttwoorthreethousand mengoupandsmiteAi;andmakenotallthepeopleto labourthither;fortheyarebutfew

4Sotherewentupthitherofthepeopleaboutthree thousandmen:andtheyfledbeforethemenofAi

5AndthemenofAismoteofthemaboutthirtyandsix men:fortheychasedthemfrombeforethegateevenunto Shebarim,andsmotetheminthegoingdown:wherefore theheartsofthepeoplemelted,andbecameaswater

6AndJoshuarenthisclothes,andfelltotheearthuponhis facebeforethearkoftheLORDuntiltheeventide,heand theeldersofIsrael,andputdustupontheirheads.

7AndJoshuasaid,Alas,OLordGOD,whereforehast thouatallbroughtthispeopleoverJordan,todeliverus intothehandoftheAmorites,todestroyus?wouldtoGod wehadbeencontent,anddweltontheothersideJordan!

8OLord,whatshallIsay,whenIsraelturneththeirbacks beforetheirenemies!

9FortheCanaanitesandalltheinhabitantsoftheland shallhearofit,andshallenvironusround,andcutoffour namefromtheearth:andwhatwiltthoudountothygreat name?

10AndtheLORDsaiduntoJoshua,Gettheeup; whereforeliestthouthusuponthyface?

11Israelhathsinned,andtheyhavealsotransgressedmy covenantwhichIcommandedthem:fortheyhaveeven takenoftheaccursedthing,andhavealsostolen,and dissembledalso,andtheyhaveputitevenamongtheir ownstuff

12ThereforethechildrenofIsraelcouldnotstandbefore theirenemies,butturnedtheirbacksbeforetheirenemies, becausetheywereaccursed:neitherwillIbewithyouany more,exceptyedestroytheaccursedfromamongyou.

13Up,sanctifythepeople,andsay,Sanctifyyourselves againsttomorrow:forthussaiththeLORDGodofIsrael,

JOSHUA

Thereisanaccursedthinginthemidstofthee,OIsrael: thoucanstnotstandbeforethineenemies,untilyetake awaytheaccursedthingfromamongyou

14Inthemorningthereforeyeshallbebroughtaccording toyourtribes:anditshallbe,thatthetribewhichthe LORDtakethshallcomeaccordingtothefamiliesthereof; andthefamilywhichtheLORDshalltakeshallcomeby households;andthehouseholdwhichtheLORDshalltake shallcomemanbyman.

2AndthoushaltdotoAiandherkingasthoudidstunto Jerichoandherking:onlythespoilthereof,andthecattle thereof,shallyetakeforapreyuntoyourselves:laytheean ambushforthecitybehindit

15AndJoshuaandallIsraelmadeasiftheywerebeaten beforethem,andfledbythewayofthewilderness

16AndallthepeoplethatwereinAiwerecalledtogether topursueafterthem:andtheypursuedafterJoshua,and weredrawnawayfromthecity

17AndtherewasnotamanleftinAiorBethel,thatwent notoutafterIsrael:andtheyleftthecityopen,andpursued afterIsrael

18AndtheLORDsaiduntoJoshua,Stretchoutthespear thatisinthyhandtowardAi;forIwillgiveitintothine handAndJoshuastretchedoutthespearthathehadinhis handtowardthecity.

19Andtheambusharosequicklyoutoftheirplace,and theyranassoonashehadstretchedouthishand:andthey enteredintothecity,andtookit,andhastedandsetthecity onfire

20AndwhenthemenofAilookedbehindthem,theysaw, and,behold,thesmokeofthecityascendeduptoheaven, andtheyhadnopowertofleethiswayorthatway:andthe peoplethatfledtothewildernessturnedbackuponthe pursuers.

21AndwhenJoshuaandallIsraelsawthattheambushhad takenthecity,andthatthesmokeofthecityascended,then theyturnedagain,andslewthemenofAi

22Andtheotherissuedoutofthecityagainstthem;so theywereinthemidstofIsrael,someonthisside,and someonthatside:andtheysmotethem,sothattheylet noneofthemremainorescape

23AndthekingofAitheytookalive,andbroughthimto Joshua.

24Anditcametopass,whenIsraelhadmadeanendof slayingalltheinhabitantsofAiinthefield,inthe wildernesswhereintheychasedthem,andwhentheywere allfallenontheedgeofthesword,untiltheywere consumed,thatalltheIsraelitesreturneduntoAi,and smoteitwiththeedgeofthesword

31AsMosestheservantoftheLORDcommandedthe childrenofIsrael,asitiswritteninthebookofthelawof Moses,analtarofwholestones,overwhichnomanhath liftupanyiron:andtheyofferedthereonburntofferings untotheLORD,andsacrificedpeaceofferings

32Andhewrotethereuponthestonesacopyofthelawof Moses,whichhewroteinthepresenceofthechildrenof Israel.

33AndallIsrael,andtheirelders,andofficers,andtheir judges,stoodonthissidethearkandonthatsidebefore theprieststheLevites,whichbarethearkofthecovenant oftheLORD,aswellthestranger,ashethatwasborn amongthem;halfofthemoveragainstmountGerizim,and halfofthemoveragainstmountEbal;asMosestheservant oftheLORDhadcommandedbefore,thattheyshould blessthepeopleofIsrael

2Thattheygatheredthemselvestogether,tofightwith JoshuaandwithIsrael,withoneaccord

3AndwhentheinhabitantsofGibeonheardwhatJoshua haddoneuntoJerichoandtoAi,

4Theydidworkwilily,andwentandmadeasiftheyhad beenambassadors,andtookoldsacksupontheirasses,and winebottles,old,andrent,andboundup;

12Thisourbreadwetookhotforourprovisionoutofour housesonthedaywecameforthtogountoyou;butnow, behold,itisdry,anditismouldy:

13Andthesebottlesofwine,whichwefilled,werenew; and,behold,theyberent:andtheseourgarmentsandour shoesarebecomeoldbyreasonoftheverylongjourney 14Andthementookoftheirvictuals,andaskednot counselatthemouthoftheLORD.

15AndJoshuamadepeacewiththem,andmadealeague withthem,toletthemlive:andtheprincesofthe congregationswareuntothem.

16Anditcametopassattheendofthreedaysafterthey hadmadealeaguewiththem,thattheyheardthatthey weretheirneighbours,andthattheydweltamongthem.

17AndthechildrenofIsraeljourneyed,andcameunto theircitiesonthethirddayNowtheircitieswereGibeon, andChephirah,andBeeroth,andKirjathjearim

18AndthechildrenofIsraelsmotethemnot,becausethe princesofthecongregationhadswornuntothembythe LORDGodofIsraelAndallthecongregationmurmured againsttheprinces

19Butalltheprincessaiduntoallthecongregation,We haveswornuntothembytheLORDGodofIsrael:now thereforewemaynottouchthem

20Thiswewilldotothem;wewillevenletthemlive,lest wrathbeuponus,becauseoftheoathwhichweswareunto them

21Andtheprincessaiduntothem,Letthemlive;butlet thembehewersofwoodanddrawersofwateruntoallthe congregation;astheprinceshadpromisedthem

22AndJoshuacalledforthem,andhespakeuntothem, saying,Whereforehaveyebeguiledus,saying,Weare veryfarfromyou;whenyedwellamongus?

23Nowthereforeyearecursed,andthereshallnoneof youbefreedfrombeingbondmen,andhewersofwood anddrawersofwaterforthehouseofmyGod

25Andnow,behold,weareinthinehand:asitseemeth goodandrightuntotheetodountous,do.

CHAPTER10

1Nowitcametopass,whenAdonizedekkingof JerusalemhadheardhowJoshuahadtakenAi,andhad utterlydestroyedit;ashehaddonetoJerichoandherking, sohehaddonetoAiandherking;andhowtheinhabitants ofGibeonhadmadepeacewithIsrael,andwereamong them;

2Thattheyfearedgreatly,becauseGibeonwasagreatcity, asoneoftheroyalcities,andbecauseitwasgreaterthan Ai,andallthementhereofweremighty.

3WhereforeAdonizedekkingofJerusalemsentunto HohamkingofHebron,anduntoPiramkingofJarmuth, anduntoJaphiakingofLachish,anduntoDebirkingof Eglon,saying,

4Comeupuntome,andhelpme,thatwemaysmite Gibeon:forithathmadepeacewithJoshuaandwiththe childrenofIsrael

5ThereforethefivekingsoftheAmorites,thekingof Jerusalem,thekingofHebron,thekingofJarmuth,the kingofLachish,thekingofEglon,gatheredthemselves together,andwentup,theyandalltheirhosts,and encampedbeforeGibeon,andmadewaragainstit.

6AndthemenofGibeonsentuntoJoshuatothecampto Gilgal,saying,Slacknotthyhandfromthyservants;come uptousquickly,andsaveus,andhelpus:forallthekings oftheAmoritesthatdwellinthemountainsaregathered togetheragainstus

7SoJoshuaascendedfromGilgal,he,andallthepeopleof warwithhim,andallthemightymenofvalour

8AndtheLORDsaiduntoJoshua,Fearthemnot:forI havedeliveredthemintothinehand;thereshallnotaman ofthemstandbeforethee

9Joshuathereforecameuntothemsuddenly,andwentup fromGilgalallnight

10AndtheLORDdiscomfitedthembeforeIsrael,and slewthemwithagreatslaughteratGibeon,andchased themalongthewaythatgoethuptoBethhoron,andsmote themtoAzekah,anduntoMakkedah

11Anditcametopass,astheyfledfrombeforeIsrael,and wereinthegoingdowntoBethhoron,thattheLORDcast downgreatstonesfromheavenuponthemuntoAzekah, andtheydied:theyweremorewhichdiedwithhailstones thantheywhomthechildrenofIsraelslewwiththesword

12ThenspakeJoshuatotheLORDinthedaywhenthe LORDdelivereduptheAmoritesbeforethechildrenof Israel,andhesaidinthesightofIsrael,Sun,standthou stilluponGibeon;andthou,Moon,inthevalleyofAjalon

13Andthesunstoodstill,andthemoonstayed,untilthe peoplehadavengedthemselvesupontheirenemiesIsnot thiswritteninthebookofJasher?Sothesunstoodstillin themidstofheaven,andhastednottogodownabouta wholeday.

14Andtherewasnodaylikethatbeforeitorafterit,that theLORDhearkeneduntothevoiceofaman:forthe LORDfoughtforIsrael

15AndJoshuareturned,andallIsraelwithhim,untothe camptoGilgal.

16Butthesefivekingsfled,andhidthemselvesinacave atMakkedah

17AnditwastoldJoshua,saying,Thefivekingsarefound hidinacaveatMakkedah

9AndJoshuadiduntothemastheLORDbadehim:he houghedtheirhorses,andburnttheirchariotswithfire.

10AndJoshuaatthattimeturnedback,andtookHazor, andsmotethekingthereofwiththesword:forHazor beforetimewastheheadofallthosekingdoms.

11Andtheysmoteallthesoulsthatwerethereinwiththe edgeofthesword,utterlydestroyingthem:therewasnot anylefttobreathe:andheburntHazorwithfire.

20ForitwasoftheLORDtohardentheirhearts,thatthey shouldcomeagainstIsraelinbattle,thathemightdestroy themutterly,andthattheymighthavenofavour,butthat hemightdestroythem,astheLORDcommandedMoses 21AndatthattimecameJoshua,andcutofftheAnakims fromthemountains,fromHebron,fromDebir,fromAnab, andfromallthemountainsofJudah,andfromallthe mountainsofIsrael:Joshuadestroyedthemutterlywith theircities.

22TherewasnoneoftheAnakimsleftinthelandofthe childrenofIsrael:onlyinGaza,inGath,andinAshdod, thereremained.

9FromAroer,thatisuponthebankoftheriverArnon,and thecitythatisinthemidstoftheriver,andalltheplainof MedebauntoDibon;

10AndallthecitiesofSihonkingoftheAmorites,which reignedinHeshbon,untotheborderofthechildrenof Ammon;

11AndGilead,andtheborderoftheGeshuritesand Maachathites,andallmountHermon,andallBashanunto Salcah;

12AllthekingdomofOginBashan,whichreignedin AshtarothandinEdrei,whoremainedoftheremnantof thegiants:forthesedidMosessmite,andcastthemout.

13NeverthelessthechildrenofIsraelexpellednotthe Geshurites,northeMaachathites:buttheGeshuritesand theMaachathitesdwellamongtheIsraelitesuntilthisday.

1AndthesearethecountrieswhichthechildrenofIsrael inheritedinthelandofCanaan,whichEleazarthepriest, andJoshuathesonofNun,andtheheadsofthefathersof thetribesofthechildrenofIsrael,distributedfor inheritancetothem.

2Bylotwastheirinheritance,astheLORDcommanded bythehandofMoses,fortheninetribes,andforthehalf tribe

3ForMoseshadgiventheinheritanceoftwotribesandan halftribeontheothersideJordan:butuntotheLeviteshe gavenoneinheritanceamongthem

4ForthechildrenofJosephweretwotribes,Manassehand Ephraim:thereforetheygavenopartuntotheLevitesin theland,savecitiestodwellin,withtheirsuburbsfortheir cattleandfortheirsubstance

7FortyyearsoldwasIwhenMosestheservantofthe LORDsentmefromKadeshbarneatoespyouttheland; andIbroughthimwordagainasitwasinmineheart

8Neverthelessmybrethrenthatwentupwithmemadethe heartofthepeoplemelt:butIwhollyfollowedtheLORD myGod

9AndMosesswareonthatday,saying,Surelytheland whereonthyfeethavetroddenshallbethineinheritance, andthychildren'sforever,becausethouhastwholly followedtheLORDmyGod

10Andnow,behold,theLORDhathkeptmealive,ashe said,thesefortyandfiveyears,evensincetheLORDspake thisworduntoMoses,whilethechildrenofIsrael wanderedinthewilderness:andnow,lo,Iamthisday fourscoreandfiveyearsold

11AsyetIamasstrongthisdayasIwasinthedaythat Mosessentme:asmystrengthwasthen,evensoismy strengthnow,forwar,bothtogoout,andtocomein

12Nowthereforegivemethismountain,whereofthe LORDspakeinthatday;forthouheardestinthatdayhow theAnakimswerethere,andthatthecitiesweregreatand fenced:ifsobetheLORDwillbewithme,thenIshallbe abletodrivethemout,astheLORDsaid.

13AndJoshuablessedhim,andgaveuntoCalebthesonof JephunnehHebronforaninheritance

14HebronthereforebecametheinheritanceofCalebthe sonofJephunnehtheKeneziteuntothisday,becausethat hewhollyfollowedtheLORDGodofIsrael

15AndthenameofHebronbeforewasKirjatharba;which ArbawasagreatmanamongtheAnakimsAndtheland hadrestfromwar

1ThisthenwasthelotofthetribeofthechildrenofJudah bytheirfamilies;eventotheborderofEdomthe wildernessofZinsouthwardwastheuttermostpartofthe southcoast.

10AndtheydravenotouttheCanaanitesthatdweltin Gezer:buttheCanaanitesdwellamongtheEphraimites untothisday,andserveundertribute.

1TherewasalsoalotforthetribeofManasseh;forhewas thefirstbornofJoseph;towit,forMachirthefirstbornof Manasseh,thefatherofGilead:becausehewasamanof war,thereforehehadGileadandBashan

2Therewasalsoalotfortherestofthechildrenof Manassehbytheirfamilies;forthechildrenofAbiezer, andforthechildrenofHelek,andforthechildrenofAsriel, andforthechildrenofShechem,andforthechildrenof Hepher,andforthechildrenofShemida:thesewerethe malechildrenofManassehthesonofJosephbytheir families

3ButZelophehad,thesonofHepher,thesonofGilead,the sonofMachir,thesonofManasseh,hadnosons,but daughters:andthesearethenamesofhisdaughters, Mahlah,andNoah,Hoglah,Milcah,andTirzah.

4AndtheycamenearbeforeEleazarthepriest,andbefore JoshuathesonofNun,andbeforetheprinces,saying,The LORDcommandedMosestogiveusaninheritanceamong ourbrethrenThereforeaccordingtothecommandmentof theLORDhegavethemaninheritanceamongthebrethren oftheirfather.

5AndtherefelltenportionstoManasseh,besidetheland ofGileadandBashan,whichwereontheothersideJordan; 6BecausethedaughtersofManassehhadaninheritance amonghissons:andtherestofManasseh'ssonshadthe landofGilead

7AndthecoastofManassehwasfromAsherto Michmethah,thatliethbeforeShechem;andtheborder wentalongontherighthanduntotheinhabitantsof Entappuah.

8NowManassehhadthelandofTappuah:butTappuahon theborderofManassehbelongedtothechildrenof Ephraim;

9AndthecoastdescendeduntotheriverKanah,southward oftheriver:thesecitiesofEphraimareamongthecitiesof Manasseh:thecoastofManassehalsowasonthenorth sideoftheriver,andtheoutgoingsofitwereatthesea:

10SouthwarditwasEphraim's,andnorthwarditwas Manasseh's,andtheseaishisborder;andtheymet togetherinAsheronthenorth,andinIssacharontheeast

11AndManassehhadinIssacharandinAsherBethshean andhertowns,andIbleamandhertowns,andthe inhabitantsofDorandhertowns,andtheinhabitantsof Endorandhertowns,andtheinhabitantsofTaanachand hertowns,andtheinhabitantsofMegiddoandhertowns, eventhreecountries

12YetthechildrenofManassehcouldnotdriveoutthe inhabitantsofthosecities;buttheCanaaniteswoulddwell inthatland

13Yetitcametopass,whenthechildrenofIsraelwere waxenstrong,thattheyputtheCanaanitestotribute;but didnotutterlydrivethemout

14AndthechildrenofJosephspakeuntoJoshua,saying, Whyhastthougivenmebutonelotandoneportionto inherit,seeingIamagreatpeople,forasmuchastheLORD hathblessedmehitherto?

15AndJoshuaansweredthem,Ifthoubeagreatpeople, thengettheeuptothewoodcountry,andcutdownfor thyselfthereinthelandofthePerizzitesandofthegiants, ifmountEphraimbetoonarrowforthee

16AndthechildrenofJosephsaid,Thehillisnotenough forus:andalltheCanaanitesthatdwellinthelandofthe valleyhavechariotsofiron,boththeywhoareof Bethsheanandhertowns,andtheywhoareofthevalleyof Jezreel.

7ButtheLeviteshavenopartamongyou;forthe priesthoodoftheLORDistheirinheritance:andGad,and Reuben,andhalfthetribeofManasseh,havereceivedtheir inheritancebeyondJordanontheeast,whichMosesthe servantoftheLORDgavethem

8Andthemenarose,andwentaway:andJoshuacharged themthatwenttodescribetheland,saying,Goandwalk throughtheland,anddescribeit,andcomeagaintome, thatImayherecastlotsforyoubeforetheLORDinShiloh.

9Andthemenwentandpassedthroughtheland,and describeditbycitiesintosevenpartsinabook,andcame againtoJoshuatothehostatShiloh

10AndJoshuacastlotsfortheminShilohbeforethe LORD:andthereJoshuadividedthelanduntothechildren ofIsraelaccordingtotheirdivisions.

2SpeaktothechildrenofIsrael,saying,Appointoutfor youcitiesofrefuge,whereofIspakeuntoyoubythehand ofMoses:

3Thattheslayerthatkillethanypersonunawaresand unwittinglymayfleethither:andtheyshallbeyourrefuge fromtheavengerofblood

4Andwhenhethatdothfleeuntooneofthosecitiesshall standattheenteringofthegateofthecity,andshall declarehiscauseintheearsoftheeldersofthatcity,they shalltakehimintothecityuntothem,andgivehimaplace, thathemaydwellamongthem

5Andiftheavengerofbloodpursueafterhim,thenthey shallnotdelivertheslayerupintohishand;becausehe smotehisneighbourunwittingly,andhatedhimnot beforetime

1ThenJoshuacalledtheReubenites,andtheGadites,and thehalftribeofManasseh,

2Andsaiduntothem,YehavekeptallthatMosesthe servantoftheLORDcommandedyou,andhaveobeyed myvoiceinallthatIcommandedyou:

3Yehavenotleftyourbrethrenthesemanydaysuntothis day,buthavekeptthechargeofthecommandmentofthe LORDyourGod.

4AndnowtheLORDyourGodhathgivenrestuntoyour brethren,ashepromisedthem:thereforenowreturnye, andgetyouuntoyourtents,anduntothelandofyour possession,whichMosestheservantoftheLORDgave youontheothersideJordan

5Buttakediligentheedtodothecommandmentandthe law,whichMosestheservantoftheLORDchargedyou,to lovetheLORDyourGod,andtowalkinallhisways,and tokeephiscommandments,andtocleaveuntohim,andto servehimwithallyourheartandwithallyoursoul

6SoJoshuablessedthem,andsentthemaway:andthey wentuntotheirtents.

11AndthechildrenofIsraelheardsay,Behold,the childrenofReubenandthechildrenofGadandthehalf tribeofManassehhavebuiltanaltaroveragainsttheland ofCanaan,inthebordersofJordan,atthepassageofthe childrenofIsrael

12AndwhenthechildrenofIsraelheardofit,thewhole congregationofthechildrenofIsraelgatheredthemselves togetheratShiloh,togouptowaragainstthem

13AndthechildrenofIsraelsentuntothechildrenof Reuben,andtothechildrenofGad,andtothehalftribeof Manasseh,intothelandofGilead,Phinehasthesonof Eleazarthepriest, 14Andwithhimtenprinces,ofeachchiefhouseaprince throughoutallthetribesofIsrael;andeachonewasan headofthehouseoftheirfathersamongthethousandsof Israel.

15AndtheycameuntothechildrenofReuben,andtothe childrenofGad,andtothehalftribeofManasseh,untothe landofGilead,andtheyspakewiththem,saying,

16ThussaiththewholecongregationoftheLORD,What trespassisthisthatyehavecommittedagainsttheGodof Israel,toturnawaythisdayfromfollowingtheLORD,in thatyehavebuildedyouanaltar,thatyemightrebelthis dayagainsttheLORD?

17IstheiniquityofPeortoolittleforus,fromwhichwe arenotcleanseduntilthisday,althoughtherewasaplague inthecongregationoftheLORD,

18Butthatyemustturnawaythisdayfromfollowingthe LORD?anditwillbe,seeingyerebeltodayagainstthe LORD,thattomorrowhewillbewrothwiththewhole congregationofIsrael.

19Notwithstanding,ifthelandofyourpossessionbe unclean,thenpassyeoveruntothelandofthepossession oftheLORD,whereintheLORD'Stabernacledwelleth, andtakepossessionamongus:butrebelnotagainstthe LORD,norrebelagainstus,inbuildingyouanaltarbeside thealtaroftheLORDourGod.

20DidnotAchanthesonofZerahcommitatrespassinthe accursedthing,andwrathfellonallthecongregationof Israel?andthatmanperishednotaloneinhisiniquity.

21ThenthechildrenofReubenandthechildrenofGad andthehalftribeofManassehanswered,andsaiduntothe headsofthethousandsofIsrael,

22TheLORDGodofgods,theLORDGodofgods,he knoweth,andIsraelheshallknow;ifitbeinrebellion,orif intransgressionagainsttheLORD,(saveusnotthisday,) 23Thatwehavebuiltusanaltartoturnfromfollowingthe LORD,oriftoofferthereonburntofferingormeat offering,oriftoofferpeaceofferingsthereon,letthe LORDhimselfrequireit;

24Andifwehavenotratherdoneitforfearofthisthing, saying,Intimetocomeyourchildrenmightspeakuntoour children,saying,WhathaveyetodowiththeLORDGod ofIsrael?

25FortheLORDhathmadeJordanaborderbetweenus andyou,yechildrenofReubenandchildrenofGad;ye havenopartintheLORD:soshallyourchildrenmakeour childrenceasefromfearingtheLORD

26Thereforewesaid,Letusnowpreparetobuildusan altar,notforburntoffering,norforsacrifice:

27Butthatitmaybeawitnessbetweenus,andyou,and ourgenerationsafterus,thatwemightdotheserviceofthe LORDbeforehimwithourburntofferings,andwithour sacrifices,andwithourpeaceofferings;thatyourchildren maynotsaytoourchildrenintimetocome,Yehaveno partintheLORD.

28Thereforesaidwe,thatitshallbe,whentheyshouldso saytousortoourgenerationsintimetocome,thatwe maysayagain,BeholdthepatternofthealtaroftheLORD, whichourfathersmade,notforburntofferings,norfor sacrifices;butitisawitnessbetweenusandyou

29GodforbidthatweshouldrebelagainsttheLORD,and turnthisdayfromfollowingtheLORD,tobuildanaltar forburntofferings,formeatofferings,orforsacrifices, besidethealtaroftheLORDourGodthatisbeforehis tabernacle.

30AndwhenPhinehasthepriest,andtheprincesofthe congregationandheadsofthethousandsofIsraelwhich werewithhim,heardthewordsthatthechildrenofReuben andthechildrenofGadandthechildrenofManasseh spake,itpleasedthem

2AndJoshuacalledforallIsrael,andfortheirelders,and fortheirheads,andfortheirjudges,andfortheirofficers, andsaiduntothem,Iamoldandstrickeninage:

3AndyehaveseenallthattheLORDyourGodhathdone untoallthesenationsbecauseofyou;fortheLORDyour Godishethathathfoughtforyou.

4Behold,Ihavedivideduntoyoubylotthesenationsthat remain,tobeaninheritanceforyourtribes,fromJordan, withallthenationsthatIhavecutoff,evenuntothegreat seawestward.

5AndtheLORDyourGod,heshallexpelthemfrom beforeyou,anddrivethemfromoutofyoursight;andye shallpossesstheirland,astheLORDyourGodhath promiseduntoyou

6Beyethereforeverycourageoustokeepandtodoallthat iswritteninthebookofthelawofMoses,thatyeturnnot asidetherefromtotherighthandortotheleft;

7Thatyecomenotamongthesenations,thesethatremain amongyou;neithermakementionofthenameoftheir gods,norcausetoswearbythem,neitherservethem,nor bowyourselvesuntothem:

8ButcleaveuntotheLORDyourGod,asyehavedone untothisday

9FortheLORDhathdrivenoutfrombeforeyougreat nationsandstrong:butasforyou,nomanhathbeenable tostandbeforeyouuntothisday

10Onemanofyoushallchaseathousand:fortheLORD yourGod,heitisthatfightethforyou,ashehathpromised you

11Takegoodheedthereforeuntoyourselves,thatyelove theLORDyourGod

15AndifitseemeviluntoyoutoservetheLORD,choose youthisdaywhomyewillserve;whetherthegodswhich yourfathersservedthatwereontheothersideoftheflood, orthegodsoftheAmorites,inwhoselandyedwell:butas formeandmyhouse,wewillservetheLORD

16Andthepeopleansweredandsaid,Godforbidthatwe shouldforsaketheLORD,toserveothergods;

17FortheLORDourGod,heitisthatbroughtusupand ourfathersoutofthelandofEgypt,fromthehouseof bondage,andwhichdidthosegreatsignsinoursight,and preservedusinallthewaywhereinwewent,andamong allthepeoplethroughwhomwepassed:

18AndtheLORDdraveoutfrombeforeusallthepeople, eventheAmoriteswhichdweltintheland:thereforewill wealsoservetheLORD;forheisourGod.

19AndJoshuasaiduntothepeople,Yecannotservethe LORD:forheisanholyGod;heisajealousGod;hewill notforgiveyourtransgressionsnoryoursins.

20IfyeforsaketheLORD,andservestrangegods,thenhe willturnanddoyouhurt,andconsumeyou,afterthathe hathdoneyougood.

21AndthepeoplesaiduntoJoshua,Nay;butwewillserve theLORD.

22AndJoshuasaiduntothepeople,Yearewitnesses againstyourselvesthatyehavechosenyoutheLORD,to servehim.Andtheysaid,Wearewitnesses.

23Nowthereforeputaway,saidhe,thestrangegods whichareamongyou,andinclineyourheartuntothe LORDGodofIsrael

24AndthepeoplesaiduntoJoshua,TheLORDourGod willweserve,andhisvoicewillweobey

25SoJoshuamadeacovenantwiththepeoplethatday, andsetthemastatuteandanordinanceinShechem

26AndJoshuawrotethesewordsinthebookofthelawof God,andtookagreatstone,andsetitupthereunderan oak,thatwasbythesanctuaryoftheLORD

27AndJoshuasaiduntoallthepeople,Behold,thisstone shallbeawitnessuntous;forithathheardallthewordsof theLORDwhichhespakeuntous:itshallbethereforea witnessuntoyou,lestyedenyyourGod

28SoJoshualetthepeopledepart,everymanuntohis inheritance

29Anditcametopassafterthesethings,thatJoshuathe sonofNun,theservantoftheLORD,died,beingan hundredandtenyearsold

30Andtheyburiedhimintheborderofhisinheritancein Timnathserah,whichisinmountEphraim,onthenorth sideofthehillofGaash

31AndIsraelservedtheLORDallthedaysofJoshua,and allthedaysoftheeldersthatoverlivedJoshua,andwhich hadknownalltheworksoftheLORD,thathehaddonefor Israel

32AndthebonesofJoseph,whichthechildrenofIsrael broughtupoutofEgypt,buriedtheyinShechem,ina parcelofgroundwhichJacobboughtofthesonsofHamor thefatherofShechemforanhundredpiecesofsilver:and itbecametheinheritanceofthechildrenofJoseph 33AndEleazarthesonofAarondied;andtheyburiedhim inahillthatpertainedtoPhinehashisson,whichwas givenhiminmountEphraim
