CHAPTER1
1God,whoatsundrytimesandindiversmannersspakein timepastuntothefathersbytheprophets, 2HathintheselastdaysspokenuntousbyhisSon,whom hehathappointedheirofallthings,bywhomalsohemade theworlds;
3Whobeingthebrightnessofhisglory,andtheexpress imageofhisperson,andupholdingallthingsbytheword ofhispower,whenhehadbyhimselfpurgedoursins,sat downontherighthandoftheMajestyonhigh;
4Beingmadesomuchbetterthantheangels,ashehathby inheritanceobtainedamoreexcellentnamethanthey
5Foruntowhichoftheangelssaidheatanytime,Thouart mySon,thisdayhaveIbegottenthee?Andagain,Iwillbe tohimaFather,andheshallbetomeaSon?
6Andagain,whenhebringethinthefirstbegottenintothe world,hesaith,AndletalltheangelsofGodworshiphim.
7Andoftheangelshesaith,Whomakethhisangelsspirits, andhisministersaflameoffire
8ButuntotheSonhesaith,Thythrone,OGod,isforever andever:asceptreofrighteousnessisthesceptreofthy kingdom
9Thouhastlovedrighteousness,andhatediniquity; thereforeGod,eventhyGod,hathanointedtheewiththe oilofgladnessabovethyfellows
10And,Thou,Lord,inthebeginninghastlaidthe foundationoftheearth;andtheheavensaretheworksof thinehands:
11Theyshallperish;butthouremainest;andtheyallshall waxoldasdothagarment;
12Andasavestureshaltthoufoldthemup,andtheyshall bechanged:butthouartthesame,andthyyearsshallnot fail
13Buttowhichoftheangelssaidheatanytime,Siton myrighthand,untilImakethineenemiesthyfootstool?
14Aretheynotallministeringspirits,sentforthtominister forthemwhoshallbeheirsofsalvation?
CHAPTER2
1Thereforeweoughttogivethemoreearnestheedtothe thingswhichwehaveheard,lestatanytimeweshouldlet themslip.
2Forifthewordspokenbyangelswasstedfast,andevery transgressionanddisobediencereceivedajustrecompence ofreward;
3Howshallweescape,ifweneglectsogreatsalvation; whichatthefirstbegantobespokenbytheLord,andwas confirmeduntousbythemthatheardhim;
4Godalsobearingthemwitness,bothwithsignsand wonders,andwithdiversmiracles,andgiftsoftheHoly Ghost,accordingtohisownwill?
5Foruntotheangelshathhenotputinsubjectionthe worldtocome,whereofwespeak
6Butoneinacertainplacetestified,saying,Whatisman, thatthouartmindfulofhim?orthesonofman,thatthou visitesthim?
7Thoumadesthimalittlelowerthantheangels;thou crownedsthimwithgloryandhonour,anddidstsethim overtheworksofthyhands:
8ThouhastputallthingsinsubjectionunderhisfeetFor inthatheputallinsubjectionunderhim,heleftnothing thatisnotputunderhim.Butnowweseenotyetallthings putunderhim
9ButweseeJesus,whowasmadealittlelowerthanthe angelsforthesufferingofdeath,crownedwithgloryand honour;thathebythegraceofGodshouldtastedeathfor everyman
10Foritbecamehim,forwhomareallthings,andby whomareallthings,inbringingmanysonsuntoglory,to makethecaptainoftheirsalvationperfectthrough sufferings.
11Forbothhethatsanctifiethandtheywhoaresanctified areallofone:forwhichcauseheisnotashamedtocall thembrethren,
12Saying,Iwilldeclarethynameuntomybrethren,inthe midstofthechurchwillIsingpraiseuntothee
13Andagain,Iwillputmytrustinhim.Andagain, BeholdIandthechildrenwhichGodhathgivenme
14Forasmuchthenasthechildrenarepartakersofflesh andblood,healsohimselflikewisetookpartofthesame; thatthroughdeathhemightdestroyhimthathadthepower ofdeath,thatis,thedevil;
15Anddeliverthemwhothroughfearofdeathwereall theirlifetimesubjecttobondage
16Forverilyhetooknotonhimthenatureofangels;but hetookonhimtheseedofAbraham
17Whereforeinallthingsitbehovedhimtobemadelike untohisbrethren,thathemightbeamercifulandfaithful highpriestinthingspertainingtoGod,tomake reconciliationforthesinsofthepeople
18Forinthathehimselfhathsufferedbeingtempted,heis abletosuccourthemthataretempted.
CHAPTER3
1Wherefore,holybrethren,partakersoftheheavenly calling,considertheApostleandHighPriestofour profession,ChristJesus;
2Whowasfaithfultohimthatappointedhim,asalso Moseswasfaithfulinallhishouse.
3Forthismanwascountedworthyofmoreglorythan Moses,inasmuchashewhohathbuildedthehousehath morehonourthanthehouse.
4Foreveryhouseisbuildedbysomeman;buthethatbuilt allthingsisGod
5AndMosesverilywasfaithfulinallhishouse,asa servant,foratestimonyofthosethingswhichweretobe spokenafter;
6ButChristasasonoverhisownhouse;whosehouseare we,ifweholdfasttheconfidenceandtherejoicingofthe hopefirmuntotheend
7Wherefore(astheHolyGhostsaith,Todayifyewill hearhisvoice,
8Hardennotyourhearts,asintheprovocation,intheday oftemptationinthewilderness:
9Whenyourfatherstemptedme,provedme,andsawmy worksfortyyears
10WhereforeIwasgrievedwiththatgeneration,andsaid, Theydoalwayerrintheirheart;andtheyhavenotknown myways
11SoIswareinmywrath,Theyshallnotenterintomy rest.)
12Takeheed,brethren,lesttherebeinanyofyouanevil heartofunbelief,indepartingfromthelivingGod 13Butexhortoneanotherdaily,whileitiscalledToday; lestanyofyoubehardenedthroughthedeceitfulnessofsin 14ForwearemadepartakersofChrist,ifweholdthe beginningofourconfidencestedfastuntotheend; 15Whileitissaid,Todayifyewillhearhisvoice,harden notyourhearts,asintheprovocation.
16Forsome,whentheyhadheard,didprovoke:howbeit notallthatcameoutofEgyptbyMoses
17Butwithwhomwashegrievedfortyyears?wasitnot withthemthathadsinned,whosecarcasesfellinthe wilderness?
18Andtowhomswarehethattheyshouldnotenterinto hisrest,buttothemthatbelievednot?
19Soweseethattheycouldnotenterinbecauseof unbelief.
CHAPTER4
1Letusthereforefear,lest,apromisebeingleftusof enteringintohisrest,anyofyoushouldseemtocomeshort ofit.
2Foruntouswasthegospelpreached,aswellasunto them:butthewordpreacheddidnotprofitthem,notbeing mixedwithfaithinthemthatheardit.
3Forwewhichhavebelieveddoenterintorest,ashesaid, AsIhavesworninmywrath,iftheyshallenterintomy rest:althoughtheworkswerefinishedfromthefoundation oftheworld
4Forhespakeinacertainplaceoftheseventhdayonthis wise,AndGoddidresttheseventhdayfromallhisworks.
5Andinthisplaceagain,Iftheyshallenterintomyrest
6Seeingthereforeitremaineththatsomemustenter therein,andtheytowhomitwasfirstpreachedenterednot inbecauseofunbelief:
7Again,helimitethacertainday,sayinginDavid,Today, aftersolongatime;asitissaid,Todayifyewillhearhis voice,hardennotyourhearts
8ForifJesushadgiventhemrest,thenwouldhenot afterwardhavespokenofanotherday.
9ThereremaineththereforearesttothepeopleofGod
10Forhethatisenteredintohisrest,healsohathceased fromhisownworks,asGoddidfromhis
11Letuslabourthereforetoenterintothatrest,lestany manfallafterthesameexampleofunbelief
12ForthewordofGodisquick,andpowerful,andsharper thananytwoedgedsword,piercingeventothedividing asunderofsoulandspirit,andofthejointsandmarrow, andisadiscernerofthethoughtsandintentsoftheheart
13Neitheristhereanycreaturethatisnotmanifestinhis sight:butallthingsarenakedandopeneduntotheeyesof himwithwhomwehavetodo
14Seeingthenthatwehaveagreathighpriest,thatis passedintotheheavens,JesustheSonofGod,letushold fastourprofession
15Forwehavenotanhighpriestwhichcannotbetouched withthefeelingofourinfirmities;butwasinallpoints temptedlikeasweare,yetwithoutsin
16Letusthereforecomeboldlyuntothethroneofgrace, thatwemayobtainmercy,andfindgracetohelpintimeof need
CHAPTER5
1Foreveryhighpriesttakenfromamongmenisordained formeninthingspertainingtoGod,thathemayofferboth giftsandsacrificesforsins:
2Whocanhavecompassionontheignorant,andonthem thatareoutoftheway;forthathehimselfalsois compassedwithinfirmity
3Andbyreasonhereofheought,asforthepeople,soalso forhimself,toofferforsins
4Andnomantakeththishonouruntohimself,buthethat iscalledofGod,aswasAaron.
5SoalsoChristglorifiednothimselftobemadeanhigh priest;buthethatsaiduntohim,ThouartmySon,today haveIbegottenthee.
6Ashesaithalsoinanotherplace,Thouartapriestfor everaftertheorderofMelchisedec
7Whointhedaysofhisflesh,whenhehadofferedup prayersandsupplicationswithstrongcryingandtearsunto himthatwasabletosavehimfromdeath,andwasheardin thathefeared;
8ThoughhewereaSon,yetlearnedheobediencebythe thingswhichhesuffered;
9Andbeingmadeperfect,hebecametheauthorofeternal salvationuntoallthemthatobeyhim;
10CalledofGodanhighpriestaftertheorderof Melchisedec.
11Ofwhomwehavemanythingstosay,andhardtobe uttered,seeingyearedullofhearing
12Forwhenforthetimeyeoughttobeteachers,yehave needthatoneteachyouagainwhichbethefirstprinciples oftheoraclesofGod;andarebecomesuchashaveneedof milk,andnotofstrongmeat.
13Foreveryonethatusethmilkisunskilfulinthewordof righteousness:forheisababe
14Butstrongmeatbelongethtothemthatareoffullage, eventhosewhobyreasonofusehavetheirsenses exercisedtodiscernbothgoodandevil
CHAPTER6
1ThereforeleavingtheprinciplesofthedoctrineofChrist, letusgoonuntoperfection;notlayingagainthe foundationofrepentancefromdeadworks,andoffaith towardGod,
2Ofthedoctrineofbaptisms,andoflayingonofhands, andofresurrectionofthedead,andofeternaljudgment
3Andthiswillwedo,ifGodpermit
4Foritisimpossibleforthosewhowereonceenlightened, andhavetastedoftheheavenlygift,andweremade partakersoftheHolyGhost,
5AndhavetastedthegoodwordofGod,andthepowers oftheworldtocome,
6Iftheyshallfallaway,torenewthemagainunto repentance;seeingtheycrucifytothemselvestheSonof Godafresh,andputhimtoanopenshame
7Fortheearthwhichdrinkethintherainthatcomethoft uponit,andbringethforthherbsmeetforthembywhomit isdressed,receivethblessingfromGod:
8Butthatwhichbeareththornsandbriersisrejected,and isnighuntocursing;whoseendistobeburned.
9But,beloved,wearepersuadedbetterthingsofyou,and thingsthataccompanysalvation,thoughwethusspeak
10ForGodisnotunrighteoustoforgetyourworkand labouroflove,whichyehaveshewedtowardhisname,in thatyehaveministeredtothesaints,anddominister.
11Andwedesirethateveryoneofyoudoshewthesame diligencetothefullassuranceofhopeuntotheend:
12Thatyebenotslothful,butfollowersofthemwho throughfaithandpatienceinheritthepromises
13ForwhenGodmadepromisetoAbraham,becausehe couldswearbynogreater,heswarebyhimself,
14Saying,SurelyblessingIwillblessthee,and multiplyingIwillmultiplythee
15Andso,afterhehadpatientlyendured,heobtainedthe promise
16Formenverilyswearbythegreater:andanoathfor confirmationistothemanendofallstrife.
17WhereinGod,willingmoreabundantlytoshewuntothe heirsofpromisetheimmutabilityofhiscounsel,confirmed itbyanoath:
18Thatbytwoimmutablethings,inwhichitwas impossibleforGodtolie,wemighthaveastrong consolation,whohavefledforrefugetolayholduponthe hopesetbeforeus:
19Whichhopewehaveasananchorofthesoul,bothsure andstedfast,andwhichenterethintothatwithintheveil;
20Whithertheforerunnerisforusentered,evenJesus, madeanhighpriestforeveraftertheorderofMelchisedec
CHAPTER7
1ForthisMelchisedec,kingofSalem,priestofthemost highGod,whometAbrahamreturningfromtheslaughter ofthekings,andblessedhim;
2TowhomalsoAbrahamgaveatenthpartofall;first beingbyinterpretationKingofrighteousness,andafter thatalsoKingofSalem,whichis,Kingofpeace;
3Withoutfather,withoutmother,withoutdescent,having neitherbeginningofdays,norendoflife;butmadelike untotheSonofGod;abidethapriestcontinually.
4Nowconsiderhowgreatthismanwas,untowhomeven thepatriarchAbrahamgavethetenthofthespoils
5AndverilytheythatareofthesonsofLevi,whoreceive theofficeofthepriesthood,haveacommandmenttotake tithesofthepeopleaccordingtothelaw,thatis,oftheir brethren,thoughtheycomeoutoftheloinsofAbraham:
6Buthewhosedescentisnotcountedfromthemreceived tithesofAbraham,andblessedhimthathadthepromises
7Andwithoutallcontradictionthelessisblessedofthe better
8Andherementhatdiereceivetithes;buttherehe receiveththem,ofwhomitiswitnessedthatheliveth.
9AndasImaysosay,Levialso,whoreceivethtithes, payedtithesinAbraham
10Forhewasyetintheloinsofhisfather,when Melchisedecmethim.
11IfthereforeperfectionwerebytheLeviticalpriesthood, (forunderitthepeoplereceivedthelaw,)whatfurther needwastherethatanotherpriestshouldriseafterthe orderofMelchisedec,andnotbecalledaftertheorderof Aaron?
12Forthepriesthoodbeingchanged,thereismadeof necessityachangealsoofthelaw
13Forheofwhomthesethingsarespokenpertainethto anothertribe,ofwhichnomangaveattendanceatthealtar 14ForitisevidentthatourLordsprangoutofJuda;of whichtribeMosesspakenothingconcerningpriesthood.
15Anditisyetfarmoreevident:forthatafterthe similitudeofMelchisedectherearisethanotherpriest, 16Whoismade,notafterthelawofacarnal commandment,butafterthepowerofanendlesslife
17Forhetestifieth,Thouartapriestforeverafterthe orderofMelchisedec.
18Forthereisverilyadisannullingofthecommandment goingbeforefortheweaknessandunprofitablenessthereof 19Forthelawmadenothingperfect,butthebringinginof abetterhopedid;bythewhichwedrawnighuntoGod 20Andinasmuchasnotwithoutanoathhewasmade priest:
21(Forthosepriestsweremadewithoutanoath;butthis withanoathbyhimthatsaiduntohim,TheLordsware andwillnotrepent,Thouartapriestforeverafterthe orderofMelchisedec:)
22BysomuchwasJesusmadeasuretyofabetter testament.
23Andtheytrulyweremanypriests,becausetheywere notsufferedtocontinuebyreasonofdeath:
24Butthisman,becausehecontinuethever,hathan unchangeablepriesthood
25Whereforeheisablealsotosavethemtotheuttermost thatcomeuntoGodbyhim,seeingheeverlivethtomake intercessionforthem
26Forsuchanhighpriestbecameus,whoisholy, harmless,undefiled,separatefromsinners,andmade higherthantheheavens;
27Whoneedethnotdaily,asthosehighpriests,toofferup sacrifice,firstforhisownsins,andthenforthepeople's: forthishedidonce,whenheoffereduphimself
28Forthelawmakethmenhighpriestswhichhave infirmity;butthewordoftheoath,whichwassincethelaw, makeththeSon,whoisconsecratedforevermore
CHAPTER8
1Nowofthethingswhichwehavespokenthisisthesum: Wehavesuchanhighpriest,whoissetontherighthand ofthethroneoftheMajestyintheheavens;
2Aministerofthesanctuary,andofthetruetabernacle, whichtheLordpitched,andnotman
3Foreveryhighpriestisordainedtooffergiftsand sacrifices:whereforeitisofnecessitythatthismanhave somewhatalsotooffer
4Forifhewereonearth,heshouldnotbeapriest,seeing thatthereareprieststhatoffergiftsaccordingtothelaw: 5Whoserveuntotheexampleandshadowofheavenly things,asMoseswasadmonishedofGodwhenhewas
abouttomakethetabernacle:for,See,saithhe,thatthou makeallthingsaccordingtothepatternshewedtotheein themount
6Butnowhathheobtainedamoreexcellentministry,by howmuchalsoheisthemediatorofabettercovenant, whichwasestablisheduponbetterpromises
7Forifthatfirstcovenanthadbeenfaultless,thenshould noplacehavebeensoughtforthesecond.
8Forfindingfaultwiththem,hesaith,Behold,thedays come,saiththeLord,whenIwillmakeanewcovenant withthehouseofIsraelandwiththehouseofJudah:
9NotaccordingtothecovenantthatImadewiththeir fathersinthedaywhenItookthembythehandtolead themoutofthelandofEgypt;becausetheycontinuednot inmycovenant,andIregardedthemnot,saiththeLord
10ForthisisthecovenantthatIwillmakewiththehouse ofIsraelafterthosedays,saiththeLord;Iwillputmylaws intotheirmind,andwritethemintheirhearts:andIwillbe tothemaGod,andtheyshallbetomeapeople:
11Andtheyshallnotteacheverymanhisneighbour,and everymanhisbrother,saying,KnowtheLord:forallshall knowme,fromtheleasttothegreatest.
12ForIwillbemercifultotheirunrighteousness,andtheir sinsandtheiriniquitieswillIremembernomore
13Inthathesaith,Anewcovenant,hehathmadethefirst oldNowthatwhichdecayethandwaxetholdisreadyto vanishaway
CHAPTER9
1Thenverilythefirstcovenanthadalsoordinancesof divineservice,andaworldlysanctuary
2Fortherewasatabernaclemade;thefirst,whereinwas thecandlestick,andthetable,andtheshewbread;whichis calledthesanctuary
3Andafterthesecondveil,thetabernaclewhichiscalled theHoliestofall;
4Whichhadthegoldencenser,andthearkofthecovenant overlaidroundaboutwithgold,whereinwasthegoldenpot thathadmanna,andAaron'srodthatbudded,andthetables ofthecovenant;
5Andoveritthecherubimsofgloryshadowingthe mercyseat;ofwhichwecannotnowspeakparticularly.
6Nowwhenthesethingswerethusordained,thepriests wentalwaysintothefirsttabernacle,accomplishingthe serviceofGod.
7Butintothesecondwentthehighpriestaloneonceevery year,notwithoutblood,whichheofferedforhimself,and fortheerrorsofthepeople:
8TheHolyGhostthissignifying,thatthewayintothe holiestofallwasnotyetmademanifest,whileasthefirst tabernaclewasyetstanding:
9Whichwasafigureforthetimethenpresent,inwhich wereofferedbothgiftsandsacrifices,thatcouldnotmake himthatdidtheserviceperfect,aspertainingtothe conscience;
10Whichstoodonlyinmeatsanddrinks,anddivers washings,andcarnalordinances,imposedonthemuntilthe timeofreformation
11ButChristbeingcomeanhighpriestofgoodthingsto come,byagreaterandmoreperfecttabernacle,notmade withhands,thatistosay,notofthisbuilding;
12Neitherbythebloodofgoatsandcalves,butbyhisown bloodheenteredinonceintotheholyplace,having obtainedeternalredemptionforus
13Forifthebloodofbullsandofgoats,andtheashesof anheifersprinklingtheunclean,sanctifiethtothepurifying oftheflesh:
14HowmuchmoreshallthebloodofChrist,whothrough theeternalSpiritofferedhimselfwithoutspottoGod, purgeyourconsciencefromdeadworkstoservetheliving God?
15Andforthiscauseheisthemediatorofthenew testament,thatbymeansofdeath,fortheredemptionofthe transgressionsthatwereunderthefirsttestament,they whicharecalledmightreceivethepromiseofeternal inheritance
16Forwhereatestamentis,theremustalsoofnecessitybe thedeathofthetestator
17Foratestamentisofforceaftermenaredead:otherwise itisofnostrengthatallwhilethetestatorliveth.
18Whereuponneitherthefirsttestamentwasdedicated withoutblood
19ForwhenMoseshadspokeneveryprecepttoallthe peopleaccordingtothelaw,hetookthebloodofcalves andofgoats,withwater,andscarletwool,andhyssop,and sprinkledboththebook,andallthepeople,
20Saying,ThisisthebloodofthetestamentwhichGod hathenjoineduntoyou
21Moreoverhesprinkledwithbloodboththetabernacle, andallthevesselsoftheministry
22Andalmostallthingsarebythelawpurgedwithblood; andwithoutsheddingofbloodisnoremission.
23Itwasthereforenecessarythatthepatternsofthingsin theheavensshouldbepurifiedwiththese;buttheheavenly thingsthemselveswithbettersacrificesthanthese.
24ForChristisnotenteredintotheholyplacesmadewith hands,whicharethefiguresofthetrue;butintoheaven itself,nowtoappearinthepresenceofGodforus:
25Noryetthatheshouldofferhimselfoften,asthehigh priestenterethintotheholyplaceeveryyearwithbloodof others;
26Forthenmustheoftenhavesufferedsincethe foundationoftheworld:butnowonceintheendofthe worldhathheappearedtoputawaysinbythesacrificeof himself
27Andasitisappointeduntomenoncetodie,butafter thisthejudgment:
28SoChristwasonceofferedtobearthesinsofmany;and untothemthatlookforhimshallheappearthesecondtime withoutsinuntosalvation
CHAPTER10
1Forthelawhavingashadowofgoodthingstocome,and nottheveryimageofthethings,canneverwiththose sacrificeswhichtheyofferedyearbyyearcontinually makethecomersthereuntoperfect
2Forthenwouldtheynothaveceasedtobeoffered? becausethattheworshippersoncepurgedshouldhavehad nomoreconscienceofsins
3Butinthosesacrificesthereisaremembranceagain madeofsinseveryyear
4Foritisnotpossiblethatthebloodofbullsandofgoats shouldtakeawaysins.
5Whereforewhenhecomethintotheworld,hesaith, Sacrificeandofferingthouwouldestnot,butabodyhast thoupreparedme:
6Inburntofferingsandsacrificesforsinthouhasthadno pleasure
7ThensaidI,Lo,Icome(inthevolumeofthebookitis writtenofme,)todothywill,OGod
8Abovewhenhesaid,Sacrificeandofferingandburnt offeringsandofferingforsinthouwouldestnot,neither hadstpleasuretherein;whichareofferedbythelaw;
9Thensaidhe,Lo,Icometodothywill,OGod.Hetaketh awaythefirst,thathemayestablishthesecond
10Bythewhichwillwearesanctifiedthroughtheoffering ofthebodyofJesusChristonceforall.
11Andeveryprieststandethdailyministeringandoffering oftentimesthesamesacrifices,whichcannevertakeaway sins:
12Butthisman,afterhehadofferedonesacrificeforsins forever,satdownontherighthandofGod;
13Fromhenceforthexpectingtillhisenemiesbemadehis footstool
14Forbyoneofferinghehathperfectedforeverthemthat aresanctified.
15WhereoftheHolyGhostalsoisawitnesstous:forafter thathehadsaidbefore,
16ThisisthecovenantthatIwillmakewiththemafter thosedays,saiththeLord,Iwillputmylawsintotheir hearts,andintheirmindswillIwritethem;
17AndtheirsinsandiniquitieswillIremembernomore.
18Nowwhereremissionoftheseis,thereisnomore offeringforsin
19Havingtherefore,brethren,boldnesstoenterintothe holiestbythebloodofJesus,
20Byanewandlivingway,whichhehathconsecratedfor us,throughtheveil,thatistosay,hisflesh;
21AndhavinganhighpriestoverthehouseofGod;
22Letusdrawnearwithatrueheartinfullassuranceof faith,havingourheartssprinkledfromanevilconscience, andourbodieswashedwithpurewater
23Letusholdfasttheprofessionofourfaithwithout wavering;(forheisfaithfulthatpromised;)
24Andletusconsideroneanothertoprovokeuntolove andtogoodworks:
25Notforsakingtheassemblingofourselvestogether,as themannerofsomeis;butexhortingoneanother:andso muchthemore,asyeseethedayapproaching.

32Butcalltoremembrancetheformerdays,inwhich, afteryewereilluminated,yeenduredagreatfightof afflictions;
33Partly,whilstyeweremadeagazingstockbothby reproachesandafflictions;andpartly,whilstyebecame companionsofthemthatweresoused
34Foryehadcompassionofmeinmybonds,andtook joyfullythespoilingofyourgoods,knowinginyourselves thatyehaveinheavenabetterandanenduringsubstance
35Castnotawaythereforeyourconfidence,whichhath greatrecompenceofreward.
36Foryehaveneedofpatience,that,afteryehavedone thewillofGod,yemightreceivethepromise
37Foryetalittlewhile,andhethatshallcomewillcome, andwillnottarry

2Forbyittheeldersobtainedagoodreport
3Throughfaithweunderstandthattheworldswereframed bythewordofGod,sothatthingswhichareseenwerenot madeofthingswhichdoappear
4ByfaithAbeloffereduntoGodamoreexcellentsacrifice thanCain,bywhichheobtainedwitnessthathewas righteous,Godtestifyingofhisgifts:andbyithebeing deadyetspeaketh.
5ByfaithEnochwastranslatedthatheshouldnotsee death;andwasnotfound,becauseGodhadtranslatedhim: forbeforehistranslationhehadthistestimony,thathe pleasedGod
6Butwithoutfaithitisimpossibletopleasehim:forhe thatcomethtoGodmustbelievethatheis,andthatheisa rewarderofthemthatdiligentlyseekhim
7ByfaithNoah,beingwarnedofGodofthingsnotseenas yet,movedwithfear,preparedanarktothesavingofhis house;bythewhichhecondemnedtheworld,andbecame heiroftherighteousnesswhichisbyfaith.
8ByfaithAbraham,whenhewascalledtogooutintoa placewhichheshouldafterreceiveforaninheritance, obeyed;andhewentout,notknowingwhitherhewent
9Byfaithhesojournedinthelandofpromise,asina strangecountry,dwellingintabernacleswithIsaacand Jacob,theheirswithhimofthesamepromise:
10Forhelookedforacitywhichhathfoundations,whose builderandmakerisGod
11ThroughfaithalsoSaraherselfreceivedstrengthto conceiveseed,andwasdeliveredofachildwhenshewas pastage,becauseshejudgedhimfaithfulwhohad promised.
12Thereforesprangthereevenofone,andhimasgoodas dead,somanyasthestarsoftheskyinmultitude,andas thesandwhichisbytheseashoreinnumerable
13Thesealldiedinfaith,nothavingreceivedthepromises, buthavingseenthemafaroff,andwerepersuadedofthem, andembracedthem,andconfessedthattheywerestrangers andpilgrimsontheearth
14Fortheythatsaysuchthingsdeclareplainlythatthey seekacountry
15Andtruly,iftheyhadbeenmindfulofthatcountryfrom whencetheycameout,theymighthavehadopportunityto havereturned
16Butnowtheydesireabettercountry,thatis,an heavenly:whereforeGodisnotashamedtobecalledtheir God:forhehathpreparedforthemacity

29ByfaiththeypassedthroughtheRedseaasbydryland: whichtheEgyptiansassayingtodoweredrowned.
30ByfaiththewallsofJerichofelldown,aftertheywere compassedaboutsevendays
31ByfaiththeharlotRahabperishednotwiththemthat believednot,whenshehadreceivedthespieswithpeace.
32AndwhatshallImoresay?forthetimewouldfailme totellofGedeon,andofBarak,andofSamson,andof Jephthae;ofDavidalso,andSamuel,andoftheprophets:
33Whothroughfaithsubduedkingdoms,wrought righteousness,obtainedpromises,stoppedthemouthsof lions,
34Quenchedtheviolenceoffire,escapedtheedgeofthe sword,outofweaknessweremadestrong,waxedvaliantin fight,turnedtoflightthearmiesofthealiens
35Womenreceivedtheirdeadraisedtolifeagain:and othersweretortured,notacceptingdeliverance;thatthey mightobtainabetterresurrection:
36Andothershadtrialofcruelmockingsandscourgings, yea,moreoverofbondsandimprisonment:
37Theywerestoned,theyweresawnasunder,were tempted,wereslainwiththesword:theywanderedaboutin sheepskinsandgoatskins;beingdestitute,afflicted, tormented;
38(Ofwhomtheworldwasnotworthy:)theywanderedin deserts,andinmountains,andindensandcavesofthe earth
39Andtheseall,havingobtainedagoodreportthrough faith,receivednotthepromise:
40Godhavingprovidedsomebetterthingforus,thatthey withoutusshouldnotbemadeperfect.
CHAPTER12
1Whereforeseeingwealsoarecompassedaboutwithso greatacloudofwitnesses,letuslayasideeveryweight, andthesinwhichdothsoeasilybesetus,andletusrun withpatiencetheracethatissetbeforeus,
2LookinguntoJesustheauthorandfinisherofourfaith; whoforthejoythatwassetbeforehimenduredthecross, despisingtheshame,andissetdownattherighthandof thethroneofGod
3Forconsiderhimthatenduredsuchcontradictionof sinnersagainsthimself,lestyebeweariedandfaintinyour minds
4Yehavenotyetresisteduntoblood,strivingagainstsin. 5Andyehaveforgottentheexhortationwhichspeaketh untoyouasuntochildren,Myson,despisenotthouthe chasteningoftheLord,norfaintwhenthouartrebukedof him:
6ForwhomtheLordlovethhechasteneth,andscourgeth everysonwhomhereceiveth.
7Ifyeendurechastening,Goddealethwithyouaswith sons;forwhatsonishewhomthefatherchastenethnot?
8Butifyebewithoutchastisement,whereofallare partakers,thenareyebastards,andnotsons
9Furthermorewehavehadfathersofourfleshwhich correctedus,andwegavethemreverence:shallwenot muchratherbeinsubjectionuntotheFatherofspirits,and live?
10Fortheyverilyforafewdayschastenedusaftertheir ownpleasure;butheforourprofit,thatwemightbe partakersofhisholiness.
11Nownochasteningforthepresentseemethtobejoyous, butgrievous:neverthelessafterwardityieldeththe peaceablefruitofrighteousnessuntothemwhichare exercisedthereby.
12Whereforeliftupthehandswhichhangdown,andthe feebleknees;
13Andmakestraightpathsforyourfeet,lestthatwhichis lamebeturnedoutoftheway;butletitratherbehealed 14Followpeacewithallmen,andholiness,withoutwhich nomanshallseetheLord:
15LookingdiligentlylestanymanfailofthegraceofGod; lestanyrootofbitternessspringinguptroubleyou,and therebymanybedefiled;
16Lesttherebeanyfornicator,orprofaneperson,asEsau, whoforonemorselofmeatsoldhisbirthright.
17Foryeknowhowthatafterward,whenhewouldhave inheritedtheblessing,hewasrejected:forhefoundno placeofrepentance,thoughhesoughtitcarefullywith tears
18Foryearenotcomeuntothemountthatmightbe touched,andthatburnedwithfire,noruntoblackness,and darkness,andtempest,
19Andthesoundofatrumpet,andthevoiceofwords; whichvoicetheythatheardintreatedthatthewordshould notbespokentothemanymore:
20(Fortheycouldnotendurethatwhichwascommanded, Andifsomuchasabeasttouchthemountain,itshallbe stoned,orthrustthroughwithadart:
21Andsoterriblewasthesight,thatMosessaid,I exceedinglyfearandquake:)
22ButyearecomeuntomountSion,anduntothecityof thelivingGod,theheavenlyJerusalem,andtoan innumerablecompanyofangels,
23Tothegeneralassemblyandchurchofthefirstborn, whicharewritteninheaven,andtoGodtheJudgeofall, andtothespiritsofjustmenmadeperfect,
24AndtoJesusthemediatorofthenewcovenant,andto thebloodofsprinkling,thatspeakethbetterthingsthanthat ofAbel
25SeethatyerefusenothimthatspeakethForifthey escapednotwhorefusedhimthatspakeonearth,much moreshallnotweescape,ifweturnawayfromhimthat speakethfromheaven:
26Whosevoicethenshooktheearth:butnowhehath promised,saying,YetoncemoreIshakenottheearthonly, butalsoheaven
27Andthisword,Yetoncemore,signifieththeremoving ofthosethingsthatareshaken,asofthingsthataremade, thatthosethingswhichcannotbeshakenmayremain
28Whereforewereceivingakingdomwhichcannotbe moved,letushavegrace,wherebywemayserveGod acceptablywithreverenceandgodlyfear:
29ForourGodisaconsumingfire.

2Benotforgetfultoentertainstrangers:fortherebysome haveentertainedangelsunawares.
3Rememberthemthatareinbonds,asboundwiththem; andthemwhichsufferadversity,asbeingyourselvesalso inthebody
4Marriageishonourableinall,andthebedundefiled:but whoremongersandadulterersGodwilljudge
5Letyourconversationbewithoutcovetousness;andbe contentwithsuchthingsasyehave:forhehathsaid,Iwill neverleavethee,norforsakethee

10Wehaveanaltar,whereoftheyhavenorighttoeat whichservethetabernacle.
11Forthebodiesofthosebeasts,whosebloodisbrought intothesanctuarybythehighpriestforsin,areburned withoutthecamp
12WhereforeJesusalso,thathemightsanctifythepeople withhisownblood,sufferedwithoutthegate
13Letusgoforththereforeuntohimwithoutthecamp, bearinghisreproach
14Forherehavewenocontinuingcity,butweseekoneto come.
15Byhimthereforeletusofferthesacrificeofpraiseto Godcontinually,thatis,thefruitofourlipsgivingthanks tohisname.
16Buttodogoodandtocommunicateforgetnot:forwith suchsacrificesGodiswellpleased
17Obeythemthathavetheruleoveryou,andsubmit yourselves:fortheywatchforyoursouls,astheythatmust giveaccount,thattheymaydoitwithjoy,andnotwith grief:forthatisunprofitableforyou.
18Prayforus:forwetrustwehaveagoodconscience,in allthingswillingtolivehonestly
19ButIbeseechyoutherathertodothis,thatImaybe restoredtoyouthesooner
