General manager Chris Behan says: “The name of the game has been to make existing equipment last as long as possible but the mood has now started to change and businesses are conscious that they need to invest to replace old equipment, but also to make sure they keep pace with OE tyre and wheel technology that has continued to move on despite the recession.”

China’s Guizhou Tyre Co. is a first-time exhibitor at the show and currently best known in the UK for its Advance brand. Roger Preston, Guizhou’s technical consultant, says: “Guizhou is a major producer in China but our promotion within Europe and in the UK especially, has been relatively low-key. We have now taken the strategic decision to be more aggressive in our sales promotion and exhibiting at Brityrex will start to address that situation.”

UK Environmental regulators choose Brityrex 2010 for major tyre trade campaign The Environment Agency, Scottish Environment Protection Agency and Northern Ireland Environment Agency are working together on new legislation affecting the tyre industry. They have chosen Brityrex as a major platform for an important tyre trade campaign to raise awareness about the new legislation covering the chemical make-up of tyres and retread rubber.

With effect from the beginning of January this year new European REACH legislation states that extender oils shall not be placed on the market, or used for the production of tyres or parts of tyres if they contain more than the threshold limits of PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon). The restrictions also apply to the marketing of tyres and treads for retreading.

Some PAHs can be extremely toxic when released into the environment, for example by being deposited on road surfaces during use.

Both European manufacturers, importers and retailers need to comply with the new ruling; anyone found to be selling tyres containing PAHs above the restricted levels could be faced with enforcement proceedings. One of the problems for retailers and wholesalers will be that there is no visual test to determine the presence of PAH, which means they will need to be absolutely confident that their tyre suppliers are aware of and meeting the tighter standard. www.environment-agency.gov.uk

Pro-Align launch Hunter Alignment CodeLink Over the past 37 years Kings Road Tyres has developed into one of the UK’s leading national wholesalers, offering the trade an inventory covering the entire spectrum of product from the smallest implement tyre to the very largest and heaviest sizes for construction and earthmoving machinery.

Puncturesafe UK have traditionally sold into the high speed vehicle markets because our tyre sealant is so technically advanced it has been possible for us to do this without any serious competition.

Puncturesafe UK have identified a gap in the market of slow speed vehicles such as agriculture, grass cutting, materials handling, construction/building, ancillary, military, caravans and trailers, so using the knowledge acquired in the very demanding high speed vehicle market we have developed a very effective extra heavy duty “off road” grade that out-performs everything else that is currently available. Knowing that this new market is sensitive to price because of the cheap ineffective products that have dominated it for so many years, we have introduced our new grade at a price so low it will guarantee we will become the market leader in the shortest possible time.

This new off road grade is supplied in 5 and 20 litre containers with dispensing pumps, plus 2 litres boxed for DIY installations.

Why 2 litres? The industry standard “one litre’ is not enough to do an effective job in the majority of applications because of under installing.

Why in a box? The absence of installation figures and full instructions with un-boxed products causes’ confusion and uncertainty, leading to incorrectly and under-installed product, which is one of the causes of failure with other sealants. There are currently vehicles on our roads that require the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) to be reset after an alignment service. These include models in Audi, BMW, Lexus, Chevrolet, Mini, Toyota and VW ranges and up until now this has only been achievable using an OE calibration tools at the dealership.

Pro-Align are pleased to announce the arrival to the UK of ‘CodeLink’ a SAS resetting tool that will enable independent workshops to carry out the procedure after conducting an alignment with the Hunter HawkEye WA imaging system.

CodeLink recalibrates the vehicles Steering Angle Sensor, to match the final alignment angles of the vehicle, this ensure the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) functions properly.

By 2012 all new vehicles will be manufactured with ESC, so many will require a SAS reset. Failure to perform the SAS reset procedure, as required by the motor manufacturer, may cause several conditions that could result in comebacks.

The Hunter’s CodeLink reset procedure is quick and easy. The OE’s own calibrations procedures can be rather cumbersome, but CodeLink has standardised and simplified the whole process. This is making it an ideal additional service and revenue opportunity for the independent workshop.

In the few months since its launch in America, CodeLink has already become an Award winner. However, more importantly, Hunter are finding the early sales indicate CodeLink is becoming ‘the’ deciding factor in the purchasing process, (over and above other alignment equipment brands), as independent retail outlets recognise that the Hunter HawkEye Imaging System with CodeLink, offers a second level to the Four Wheel Alignment servicing process and an opportunity to increase alignment service revenue substantially further. www.pro-align.co.uk

The Norbar Torque Tools calibration laboratory in Banbury, Oxfordshire has achieved an extended level of endorsement from the government recognised United Kingdom Accreditation Service, being awarded UKAS accreditation for performing calibrations to 108,500 N.m of torque under BS7882: 2008.
