Welcome to the first edition of The Coronet for 2022. It has been a busy first half of the year forThe Ian Potter Cultural Trust team.

We welcomed two new staff members, Louise Joel and Paula Cruz Manrique, this month. Louise has joined the team as Program Manager responsible for The Ian Potter Foundation's Vibrant funding pillar, includingThe Ian Potter Cultural Trust,The Ian Potter Moving Image Commission, and the Foundation'sArts program area.

For the last 15 years, Louise has worked in various roles in theAustralian and International Arts sectors and brings a wealth of knowledge to her role. Paula has stepped into the role

With international travel once again possible, The Ian Potter Cultural Trust has resumed business as usual and reopened its Funding Rounds for 2022. For the first Funding Round of 2022, 22 emerging artists were awarded Cultural Trust grants to travel to various countries, including Iceland, Greece andAustria, where they will pursue opportunities tailored to their artistic practice.

Learning about our newest grantees' unique professional development opportunities is equally inspiring and surreal when contemplating the COVID-19 pandemic's effects on the arts sector, individual artists, and international travel.

In this newsletter, two new grantees – JosieAlexandra and Laura Jackson – share their development projects and how their multi-disciplinary artistic practices will be enriched through their respective opportunities.

I encourage anyone finding inspiration in the stories of our newest grantees to share theTrust's current funding round information with your artistic communities.

Applications for Funding Round 3, 2022 are now open.The CulturalTrust offers grants up to $10,000 to assist talented emerging and early career artists of all mediums to gain experience, develop networks and learn skills by undertaking international professional development opportunities.

Round 1, 2022

New grantees

For the first round of 2022, 22 emerging artists were awarded $209,180 in grants. Our latest grantees will travel to 10 different countries, including Iceland, Greece andAustria, undertaking professional development programs in areas such as information experience design and orchestral performance.

JosieAlexandra is a multi-disciplinary and experimental artist whose queer, trans, and neurodiverse identity informs their artistic efforts to create new understandings and narratives of the world around them.

ACulturalTrust grant will support Josie in undertaking a three-month residency to develop and show work in the exhibitions 'SEAS(22)' and 'Timeless Light' at the Ionian Centre ofArt and Culture, Kefalonia, Greece.

Laura Jackson is an emerging writer and performer whose passion for strong female narratives is channelled through her storytelling. Laura’s practice speaks to women’s experiences in the modern world, delving into street harassment, domestic violence, online privacy, and fertility

ACulturalTrust grant will support Laura to train in the Michael Chekhov technique in NewYork City, USA.

Dana McMillan is a theatre maker whose research-based and cross-disciplinary practice encompasses solo and collaborative performance.ACultural Trust grant supported Dana to undertake a Master ofArts inAdvanced Theatre Practice at the prestigious Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London, England.
