ASTON MARTIN PROJECT SPARTA Gaydon has been working on a top-secret monster truck to compete in the 2019 Monster Jam series. Apparently, the development has run alongside the DBX programme. We’re not sure if the name, Project Sparta, is in reference to comments from Aston’s design boss, which described Rolls-Royce and Bentley as “ancient Greece”.Ouch. Shots fired, etc. Oh, and Project Sparta will be powered by the same 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 as the Valkyrie AMR Pro with 1100bhp. The nearby Marina is home to some of these whilst at the same time being an active Fishing port, having berths for over a hundred craft in all. many of these are pleasure boats and can provide a relaxing hour or so as you stroll around ´choosing´which Yacht you´ll buy with your winnings from El Gordo! LOL!

Cabo De Palos Lighthouse The first records of a structure on the site date from 1556 when King Felipe II had a watchtower built to warn of Berber raiding parties. That was demolished in1861 to make way for the present day lighthouse. The edifice itself is in the Neo-Classical style and took four years before it became operational in 1865. At 51 meters in height, it stands 81 meters above sea level and is visible to shipping from 23 miles away! This is a good thing, as the area was originally formed by volcanic eruptions approximately a very long time ago indeed! LOL! As such there are numerous islands close to the rocky shoreline that (to me at least) is a little reminiscent of Cornwall. It sits at the landward end of La Manga (The Sleeve in English!). This long spit of land helps form Europe’s largest sea water lake ( shouldn’t that be "lagoon"?)..The Mar Menor (the Small Sea!)
The marina is also home to various food establishments and makes a pleasant stop either going to or coming from the Lighthouse. A couple of things worth noting are: 1: There are no toilet facilities at the lighthouse itself and 2: The final leg of the walk to the building is quite steep and so may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. A quick glance at the map shows just how easily this area can be accessed by the AP7 and then the RM12. However, as those of you who´ve read any of these articles before will know, we Bikers like to take the "path less well trodden"! LOL! So, for a longer more scenic route, try the N345 from La Union, over El Manchon complete with stunning coastal vistas, through Portman village and then the N314 from La Manga Golf Resort. Whichever route you choose, don´t miss the fantastic views of La Manga and the Mar Menor to your left as you make your final approach to Cabo De Palos on the RM12 Enjoy and Stay safe El Guiri

With the extra torque especially at the bottom of the rev range you will see a fuel saving, as it will require less throttle input to maintain motorway speeds, you can drive in a higher gear at a slower speed as well as helping significantly when fully laden, towing or on gradients and even in start stop traffic.

THE MOTORSPORT MONTH by Richard O'Rourke 2017 F1 - AUSTRALIA It was a long cold winter and the F1 teams were all holed up in their garages fitting the dreaded halos and chopping off the high tails and wobbly wings. Testing in Barcelona was a waste of time so it was off to Australia not really knowing what was what. Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull were on the pace, the midfield were tightly packed with Haas being the surprise package while Williams, Sauber and Toro Rosso looked like the tail enders. Hamilton did a fabulous lap to take pole and on Sunday he converted that to the lead and looked comfortable out front ahead of Raikkonen and Vettel with Magnussen (Haas), Grosjean (Haas) the two Red Bulls and the two Renaults following on. Hamilton and Raikkoned pitted for fresh tyres but Vettel stayed out and during this period Haas had the pit stops from hell when both cars suffered from sloppy pit work and both ended up with loose wheels. Grosjean’s car stopped on track which caused the VSC to be introduced and this was the turning point of the race. Vettel pitted under the VSC and unbelievably re-emerged in the lead. Somehow the Mercedes computer got it wrong and gave Hamilton the wrong target pace which allowed Vettel to take the lead. Hamilton gave chase but was unable to catch the Ferrari while Raikkonen in the other Ferrari just held off Ricciardo for third. Better fortune for McLaren and Alonso who finished fifth with Vandoorne ninth and a mixture of Red Bull, Renault and Mercedes (Bottas) filling out the top ten. An interesting if controversial start to the season and the conclusion is that Mercedes are still fastest but Ferrari and Red Bull are not far behind. Seems like I heard that somewhere before!
WRC - MEXICO The Mexico round of the WRC in early March was all about nine time World Champion, Sebastien Loeb. The French maestro made his return at the wheel of a Citroen C3 and will contest two further rounds in Corsica and Spain. No one knew what to expect from the former champ but it didn’t take long for him to acclimatise to the new breed of car and he was soon into his stride. A few decent stage times on Friday to keep in touch were then followed by some blistering pace on Saturday when he actually took the lead which left the regulars with some head scratching to do. Unfortunately he suffered a puncture and he stopped to change the wheel losing two and a half minutes while Dani Sordo, suffering a similar flat tyre, carried on to the end of the stage and lost just 30 seconds. Meanwhile the other Sebastien (of the Ogier variety) was doing what he does best and put in some super quick times to lead the rally at the end of the second day. Championship leader Thierry Neuville had lost time with fuel pump problems and it was left to Hyundai team mate Sordo to lead the chase along with Kris Meeke in the other C3. Meeke climbed to second before a mistake dropped him behind Sordo and that’s how it finished with Ford, Hyundai and Citroen filling the top three podium places.
MOTO GP – QATAR Everyone hoped for a close fight between Honda, Yamaha and Ducati before the opening round of the championship in Qatar but no one could have anticipated quite how close it would be. After the race settled down over the opening laps it was Dovizioso (Ducati), Marquez (Honda) and Rossi (Yamaha) who pulled away from the pack and made it a three way fight for victory. The pace proved too quick for Rossi and he fell a little way behind while the other two fought a titanic battle for the lead. Maybe the wily Rossi thought that their antics would end in a crash and he would inherit the win but both Dovi and Marc diced hard to the end where just 0.027 seconds separated the two bikes with the Ducati just having the edge. As usual the championship will be made up of tracks that suit the characteristics of each of the three makes of bikes (sorry Suzuki and Aprilla but you are not at the races) but already the first race result has thrown up a surprise so maybe, just maybe, we are in for a season of surprises and a close fought battle for the championship.
Corsica in April will be interesting now that Loeb has had a feel of the car and he will be hard to beat on his favourite twisty tarmac roads.
