The Peel P50 is officially the world's smallest car. Originally made in the 60s, it's being made once again with the involvement of former Dragons' Den entrepreneur James Caan. The North American International Auto Show or the Detroit Motor Show as we call it, had its fair share of American muscle and we look more at those cars that will make it into the European market.
Hyundai have made this HCD-14 Genesis concept with rearhinged doors at the back and no B-pillar and a 5.0-litre V8 engine. Nice.
This Tesla is an all-electric 7 seater SUV that has a pair of gullwing rear doors and will accelerate from 0 - 6 0 m p h quicker than a 400hp Porsche 911 Carrera S. Star of the Show The Chevrolet Corvette C7 has revived the legendary Stingray name, last used in 1976. Left-hand drive imports are expected in Europe later this year, with a price tag of around €60,000.
The Infiniti Q50 is a luxury saloon with elegant styling and will be priced like the Lexus. The Lexus IS is similar to the concept shown last year and retains the sexy hourglass grill. Available later this year in Europe with 2.5l V6’s, expect to pay around €35,000. 8

LĂ?NEA DIRECTA BECOMES THE FIRST INSURER TO SELL ITS PRODUCTS VIA MOBILE TELEPHONE LĂnea Directa has launched its new website for mobiles, which makes it the first insurance company to distribute its products via Smartphones. The new site, which uses xhtml technology, is compatible with the iOS, Android and Blackberry operating systems and is capable of offering customers a price in under 3 minutes while asking them no more than ten questions. In addition, unlike other websites, which use “masksâ€? in their mobile versions, LĂnea Directa’s new quoting system is 100% adapted to Smartphone technology.
The website will initially be available for offering car insurance quotes and will then be extended to cover the company’s motorbike and home insurance sectors. Linea Directa’s new page for smartphones also includes information on the insurer’s main products and services and offers a click-to-call service which allows users to send a request for the company to call them if they have any questions or if they wish to purchase the policy with the help of an operator. With this new tool, the insurer hopes to record over 150,000 quotes per year and strengthen its position as the leader in Internet and mobile applications. The new quoting system has been designed taking into account aspects such as Internet surfing habits, easy operability, simplicity and user-friendliness for the customer. MOTORS IN THE NEWS McLaren To Build 12C Can-Am Edition I think we've featured a McLaren ´special edition´ for the last 6 or so months and here's another one! McLaren made a Can-Am inspired concept version of their very successful 12C GT3 racer to raise its profile as a customer car. They received so much interest that they have decided to produce them for 30 elite clients with a price tag of £375,000. The 12C Can-Am is a no holds barred racer. With power restrictions being thrown out, this car now produces 630bhp from its 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8. More extreme aerodynamics don the Can-Am over the GT3 making it, as McLaren put it, “the ultimate track car.” Like the Pagani Zonda R, the Can-Am is really just a toy, since it does not meet the eligibility requirements of any race series.
New Technology For Our Cars. 1: A ´Head-up display´ sat-nav has been developed by technology firm Harman that projects the picture onto the base of the car’s windscreen. Basic versions are available in luxury cars already, but only show simple instructions. Harman´s technology features ‘augmented reality’, a CGI that reacts in real time to the road ahead. So if you need to take a particularly motorway exit, the image shown on the windscreen is superimposed over where you need to go, and adapts as you get closer. It will be seen on production cars within two years.

2:‘Geo-fencing’ is the idea that the vehicle can only travel in a certain space and if goes outside that area an alert is triggered. Great uses include parents with a teenager who has recently passed their driving test and wants to take your car out. You’re okay with them commuting to and from college but don’t want them straying from that route. You can set up a ‘geo-fence’ so that if they break the rules you get a message sent your phone. French car giant PSA Peugeot Citroen believe they can put an air-powered vehicle on the road by 2016. They unveiled the new 117mpg hybrid, which uses the 'Hybrid Air' engine system and runs on petrol and air, instead of electricity. The system works by using a normal internal combustion engine, special hydraulics and an adapted gearbox along with compressed air cylinders that store and release energy. This enables it to run on petrol or air, or a combination of the two. The air compression system can re-use all the energy normally lost when slowing down and braking. The motor and a pump are in the engine bay, fed by a compressed air tank underneath the car, running parallel to the exhaust. Its scientists say it will knock 45 per cent off fuel bills for an average motorist.

The History of Motorcycle Sport by Jill Carter
Motorcycle sport can be defined as the recreational and competitive use of motorcycles, a sport practised by both professionals and amateurs on roads, tracks, closed circuits, and natural terrain.
Not surprisingly motor cycle sport developed mainly in parallel There are many forms of motorcycle racing, the main types are with that of the motor car and in the early days races such as the ill road racing, trials, speedway, motocross, drag racing, ice racing, fated Paris-Madrid road race had a class for motor cycles. Initially and hill climbs. the de Dion tricycle dominated the field in the late 1890’s, but was superseded by two wheelers such as the Werner. Werners were very successful in early competitions; their star rider, Auguste Buquet's New Werner, was the first of seven motorcycles to finish in the 554 mile Circuit du Nord race in 1902: his time was less than 34 hours! The following year, Buquet was the first motorcyclist to finish the marathon 870 mile Paris-Vienna race, coming in fifth overall.

Racing became so popular that in 1904 the Fédération Internationale du Motocyclisme (renamed the Fédération Internationale Motocycliste [FIM] in 1949) created the international cup, uniting five nations: Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, and Britain. The first international cup race took place at Dourdan, France on September 25, 1904 with full participation from the five countries. The race was won by France, but disputes arose over the racing conditions. This also saw the virtual mothballing of FIM until in 1912 Britain took the initiative and delegates from Belgium, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands and the United States met to solve their differences The FICM was reestablished in order to control and develop the sporting and touring aspects of motorcycling and to assist motorcycle users in those fields. Two weeks later, a Congress was held in Paris in which - beside the countries already mentioned - Germany, Austria and Switzerland also took part. These ten countries are considered as the official founder members of the FICM. By 2012 these had grown to 107 affiliated Members, consisting of 107 National Motorcycle Federations (FMN), divided in 6 Continental Unions; Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, Oceania. The Isle of Man hosted the first TT race in 1907 on a course that became world famous and is still in use today. Motorcycle racing in North America began in 1903 with the formation of the Federation of American Motorcyclists in New York City. By 1924 this society evolved into the still-active American Motorcycle Association. Since 1937 the Daytona 200-mile (320kilometre) race has been the leading U.S. race. It is held on the same road circuit used for the 24-hour Daytona auto race. The Belgian motorcycle-racing Grand Prix dates from 1921, while Germany began motorcycle Grand Prix racing in 1925, and the Dutch Grand Prix started that same year. 12
Road racing at the Isle of Man TT
Road races are held on closed courses, parts or all of which may be public roads. The motorcycle road-racing world championships were established in 1949; in these races, machines are divided into several classes based on engine displacement, from 50 cubic cm (3 cubic inches) up through 125, 250, 350, 500, and 750 cubic cm. Local clubs and organizations all over the world have their own international road-race meetings throughout the year. Motorcycle trials, which date back to pre-World War I days, are relatively slow, on-and-off highway events of long duration in which speed is not a determining factor. Speedway racing, which came into being in the early 1920s in Australia, is conducted on short, flat oval dirt tracks for short distances. The machines used are ultra lightweight, with small fuel tanks and small brakes. Motocross is a type of cross-country race consisting of a specified number of laps over a closed course laid out on rough, natural terrain. Motocross racing was introduced in Great Britain and on the European continent in the late 1940s and early ’50s, and by the ’60s it had become a popular spectator sport. It was demonstrated in North America in the 1960s, and the first regularly scheduled series of motocross events there was held in 1970. Drag racing is an American event dating from about 1950. This type of racing consists of a series of acceleration, or top speed, contests, each between two racers, on a straight, smooth-surfaced course that is one-quarter mile long. Ice racing started in Scandinavia in the 1930s and has spread to other temperate-climate countries. It is held on ovals on frozen lakes or on ice-covered stadium tracks, and the bikes use spiked (studded) tires. Hill climbs are uphill-road races in which each rider races against the clock, and only one machine is in motion at any time. The above is a brief overview of the varied motorcycle racing and its history, which has a long and illustrious pedigree. On the Costa Blanca there are a number of bike clubs to suit all tastes. The show is a utopia for any petrol head after the winter. Where as for the trades and teams its a way to meet up, for the fans its a chance to get excited about the year ahead and to get closer than ever to the cars and stars.
Report and Photos by Tim Surman Each year the motor-sport world heads to Birmingham UK for the Autosport International Show. After the winter break its a chance for all connected with motor-sport to meet up under one roof, meet new people and old friends, see the latest gear, announce a new deal and maybe get a new deal signed. One of these announcements was the launch of the new F4 formula, which has the backing of the BRDC, on the MSV stand Jonathan Palmer and BRDC president Derek Warwick unveiled the car and talked about the figures and costs of the new formula. The weekend saw the doors open to the public and the celebrity talkers on the Autosport and F1 stages. These included the three times F1 champion, Sir Jackie Stewart, his F1 championship cars had their own display and included the Stewart Ford F1 car. Included were some of the cars from the other formulas that drivers of that time raced in. Unlike modern F1 drivers, Sir Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Jim Clarke and others raced in multiple cars from many formulas.
Two stands that seem to share colours but are world apart, Caterham and Classic Team Lotus. Caterham showed everything from a Super 7 to their F1 and Classic Team Lotus? Well how about a JPS liveried Renault Turbo power F1 car, with the upper body work removed and suspended above, originally driven by Nigel Mansell. Another F1 team was McLaren, a stand and shop, from the latest Jenson hats and T-shirts to signing up for McLaren club membership and your photo taken with the 2012 F1 car.

The ever popular BTCC had a stand of its own, with some cars from the 2012 season, fans can get up close to the cars and really have a good look around them, no tape to keep you out and away. BTCC fan favourites like Jason Plato, Matt Neil, 2012 champion Gordon Shedden and WTCC champion Rob Huff were on the Autosport stage too. For touring car fans of yesteryear, when the racing involved less pushing and shoving and more sideways action, the HSCC had cars on display from these years.

The Live Action Arena was the normal mad high octane mix of lights, noise and burning rubber. Drift cars did a sideways dance around the arena, with masses of tyre smoke, engine noise and flaming exhausts, Shane Lynch of pop band Boyzone fame was one of the drivers and stopped and waved to the crowds. Terry Grant and two female drivers did a James Bond inspired stunt show. The only quieter moments was the Autocar best of British, although most of the cars may have been built in Britain, the owners of the company’s are not! The winner of this years McLaren Autosport Award so also announced as Jake Dennis.

For those that really wanted to splash some cash, the Coys Autosport auction. Being the a motorsport show the cars tended to be race focused, they included the 1956 MG Magnette ZA called Bumble. The car raced at last years Goodwood Revival in the St. Mary`s Trophy. Not all cars up for auction had a racing history, some had a different kind of star driver. Freddie Mercury`s 1974 RollsRoyce Silver Shadow was a star of its own on the day, a list price of £9,000-£11,000 but the hammer fell at £74,000.

Sergio Perez Aiming For The Championship. McLaren’s new recruit Sergio Perez says his ambition is to fight for the Formula 1 championship in his debut season. The 23 year old Mexican, recruited to replace Mercedes-bound Lewis Hamilton, joins after two seasons with Sauber. "Hopefully we can have a very strong car and fight for the championship. That has to be the target," Sergio said. He continued
that it would not be easy to replace Lewis but admitted he would have to be competitive from the start. "You are coming here to deliver results, to win championships. This is the target when you come to McLaren, the best team in F1, you have to really deliver the results." He pledged to "do my very best, give my very best to McLaren". He added that he expected no problems working with team-mate Jenson Button. "I think we will work very well together for the team but obviously the target is to beat him and all the others. But I think myself with Jenson, we are a very good team." He will get his first real feel of the McLaren at the first pre-season test in Jerez, Spain on the 5th to the 8th of February, ahead of the start of the season in Australia on 17 March.

Max Chilton signs deal to drive for Marussia. Max Chilton has become Formula 1's fourth British driver after signing to drive for Marussia this season. He was the team's reserve driver and impressed bosses with his speed and ability to set up the car. Max joins fellow British drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, who drive for Mercedes and McLaren respectively, and Force India's Paul di Resta. Charles Pic left Marussia at the end of last season, choosing to drive for rivals Caterham in 2013. Timo Glock has also parted company with Marussia, so it’s unknown who will partner new recruit Max. Max’s brother Tom drives in the WTCC, partnering Costa Car Trader’s friend James Nash. Marussia finished 11th in the constructors' championship in 2012, losing out on 10th place at the final race of the season in Brazil to Caterham.

Suzi Perry Takes Over From Jake Humphrey. Yes, we can confirm that Suzi Perry has been chosen to present the BBC's Formula 1 coverage from the start of next season, replacing Jake Humphrey. Suzi presented the BBC's MotoGP coverage for 10 years and we think she will be good for F1. F1 Driver Profile Damon Hill
Damon Hill was born in London in 1960, son of twotime F1 Champion, Graham Hill. Although he spent his young years around in the F1 world, he didn’t start racing competitively until 1981. The start in Brasil First on motorbikes, then moving into cars and through the formulas until he reached F3000 in the late 80`s. He moved into F1 in 1991 when he was offered a position as a test driver for Williams. The following year he raced in the series for Brabham before being offered a seat in 1993 for Williams after the 1992 Champion Nigel Mansell left the William team. He won four races in the season, finishing 3rd in the Championship. The following year Alain Prost retired and Aryton Senna briefly became his team-mate before his tragic accident at the third race of the season. Damon Hill went onto battle for the title, losing out by one point after a controversial incident with Michael Schumacher in the final race. He took runner up again in 1995 before dominating the 1996 season and claiming the title. He moved to Arrows before retiring in 1999. Since then he became president of the British Racing Drivers' Club, during which Silverstone secured its long-term status as host of the British Grand Prix, he stepped down from this last year and took up a post as Expert Analyst for the new Sky Sports F1 channel. He is the first son of a World Champion to win a Championship and his own 22 year old son Josh, also shows promise as a driver, despite only getting into it himself a few years ago. Watch this space!

t was glorious sunshine again for the first “Ace Cafe” meeting of 2013 and a very high turnout of cars of all varieties. Artistron showed some of his superb car paintings. Phoenix Car Club
The Phoenix Ace Café meet takes place on the first Sunday of each month 11:00 to 13:00 at Hotel La Torre, Los Montesinos and is open to members and all car enthusiasts. www.phoenixcarclub.com
The high winds we experienced last month took their toll on this sign and the hotel in Los Montesinos where Phoenix holds it monthly Ace Cafe meeting. Luckily no-one was injured and it was business as usual the very next day. Thanks to Bruce from Phoenix for sharing this photo.
Mod Cruiserz is for all special cars, being American muscle cars, Oldtimers, Japanese super engines or modified/tuned cars. Anyone who's got something to show is welcome or anyone interested in cars. They will meet every second Saturday of the month at 3pm and have a coffee at the Chicken Shack in Urb. San Luís. At 4pm they will leave for a nice picturesque cruise, via the Embalse de la Pedrera, ending up at the Sunrise Bar in Orihuela Costa. Join them for their first one on 9th February.
