Summer’s finally here and it’s all about the bikes in this issue; first we catch up with the brave riders at the Isle of Man TT, where the name Dunlop reigns supreme once again, then onto El Guiri who takes us out for a ride around our beautiful countryside in Spain. We take a road trip with a Harley and a mean looking trike as they travel from the UK and through Spain. Our new Top Ten looks at the coolest Police Cars and just to keep things even we see what sort of cars they are trying to catch on page 7. Clare Lawrence chats to racing driver Nicolas Prost, son of racing legend Alain Prost, while Jill Carter and Tim Surman preview the Silverstone Classic, one of the big events in July for car enthusiasts. Not forgetting the local clubs and events right here on the Costa Blanca, which includes a stunning matt black Camero which graced the Phoenix Ace Cafe in June. The 37 and 3/4 mile Mountain Course is on closed public roads, with all races taking place in a time-trial format. The twisty, stone-walled lined course is very dangerous and the riders are deservedly well respected. The skill, concentration and bravery needed is enormous with speeds reaching over 130mph.
Ian Mackman was one of the works riders for the best sounding bikes at the TT, Norton. We will be speaking to him in the next issue, so watch this space!

MotoCzysz rider Michael R u t t e r was once again the man to watch on the electric bike as he took another win, with an overall lap average speed of 109.675mph. This was over five miles an hour up on his 2012 lap record. John McGuinness on the Mugen was also over the 109mph mark and came in second. Michael Dunlop in action
Michael Dunlop took four wins from five starts and seems to be on his way to taking John McGuiness’s crown. Not to be beaten, John took the win in the Senior TT, making his win total 20 and a record 41 podiums.

If the circumstances of the location allow, always fill in the European accident report, which is an essential document for speeding up the procedures and handling between the insurance companies. The 24 Hours of Le Mans 2013 was held 22-23 June at the 8.469 mile Circuit de la Sarthe in France. The Audi team defended their 2012 win after one of the wildest races in the history of Le Mans, it was Audi Sport Team Joest’s No. 2 car that went on to win the event that was filled with bad weather and tragedy.
Our thoughts go out to 34 year old Danish driver Allan Simonsen who tragically died; he lost control of his Aston Martin Vantage V8 and smashed into the barrier at the Tertre Rouge corner. Simonsen was a veteran of Le Mans' and an extremely talented and experienced sports car driver who was highly respected by his peers and his team.

Former Formula One driver Anthony Davidson who had his own crash last year when he careered off at the end of the 200 mph Mulsanne Straight and broke his back, claimed second place for Toyota alongside Sébastien Buemi and Stéphane Sarrazin. Toyota had hoped that fuel consumption and tyre management could give them the edge against the much quicker Audi but adverse weather and numerous safety car conditions put paid to those plans.

MOTORS IN THE NEWS Vanquish Volante. The new Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is the ultimate soft-top convertible and will be available to buy later in the year at a price of £200,000. The flagship luxury car has been described by Aston as the 'ultimate convertible super GT' and the first with an all lightweight, but super-strong, carbonfibre body. Under the bonnet will be a new 6 litre 565bhp V12 engine linked to a six-speed Touchtronic gearbox. This can do 0 to 60mph in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 183mph. It will be possible to raise or lower the roof in 14 seconds at speeds of up to 30mph.
Audi A3 Sportback e-tron. This new Audi plug-in hybrid is due to arrive in the summer of 2014 and is expected to cost around €38,000. Designed to offer the benefits of an electric vehicle with unrestricted range, the A3 Sportback e-tron features a conventional petrol engine coupled to an electric motor. Its 1.4 litre TFSI petrol engine delivers 148bhp and 184lb ft; the electric motor, which is integrated into the car's six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, can output 101bhp and 243lb ft. Combined, the system can develop a total of 201bhp and 258lb ft. This gives the front-drive A3 e-tron a 0-62mph time Aston Martin Vanquish Volante of 7.6 sec and a top speed of 138mph; more impressively it means a claimed average of 188mpg and CO2 emissions of just 35g/km. Best of British on Top Gear. I'm sure, like me, you were pleased to see the return of Top Gear to our Sunday night TV last week. One of the highlights this series is set to include a feature which sees Jeremy, Richard and James driving three red, white and blue new Jaguars down the historic Mall, complete with Union flags. Other Best of British cars taking part include the McLaren P1, One-77, M600's, F1 Cars and even Taxis. In total £200 million worth of British cars were on show and even the Household Cavalry made an appearance. Can’t wait to watch it!

These next two months we take a look at some of the coolest cop cars from around the world.
Now in its 28th year, one of the worlds largest car shows of one make took place in June: The London to Brighton Mini Run 2013. 21,000 official Mini tickets get sold for this annual massive event.
The Dubai Police force have a fleet of supercars protecting their streets which amount to around $15 million, the latest is this £1.6 Million Aston Martin One-77.
Cops in the UK whizz up and down the motorways in Jaquar XF's, with a 271bhp twin turbo 3.0ltr diesel engine it's seriously fast.
VW Beetles are used by Mexican cops still today. The German Polizei in the sixties regularly used them for patroling their inner cities.
The German Polizei use this water cannon for crowd control at riots and football matches, chances are when this bad boy arrrives trouble disappears.
Polish police cruise around in Italian style with this Alfa Romeo 159. Other makes they use include Kia, Škoda, Ford Mondeo, Opel, Volkswagen and Toyota.
It starts in south London on the site where the old Crystal Palace of 1854 once stood and ends up at Madeira Drive, Brighton. The owners who braved the British weather arrived on Saturday to camp overnight on the historic grounds and at around 8.30am on Sunday morning, the well organised run commenced. Mini's old and new, the strange and the modified turned up, the folk of the south east's seaside town came out in their thousands to enjoy the day and the lovely Brighton sun. There’s no better way to start the summer.

Pat and Yvonne McMahon and friends Dave and Draginja Mulheron drove through Spain on three and two wheels causing a stir wherever they went. Pat is the Director of Corby Community Radio and said “Having been a car driver and not a motorcyclist, I never would have believed that I would own a machine like the Spyder but loved the look of it the first time I saw it. Once I had been for a test drive then I just had to have one. Both my wife and I would never have gone onto two wheels but the additional security of the trike with the feeling of a motorbike is just fantastic.”
Dave and Draginja, on the other hand, are experienced bikers, Dave has riden across India for charity on a Triumph Enfield, around Ireland (without a fridge), through Europe and they both took on the famous Route 66 in America. This trip was planned as the new trike owners first major journey through Spain to their holiday home in the beautiful Spanish village of Algorfa.

With Clare Lawrence Nicolas Prost, born in Saint Chamond, France has been racing since he was 22, a late starter considering he is the son of F1 Champion Alain Prost! Beginning in Formula 3, he is currently a test driver for the Lotus F1 team and competes in Le Mans and other endurance races with Rebellion Racing. Hi Nicolas – Thank you for taking up the offer of this interview with me for the Costa Car Trader Auto Magazine. It will be really good for the readers of the magazine to see you in here, especially your fans! Let’s get going with the questions: When did you first realise that you wanted to start a career in racing?
Do you get much time to relax and take time out from your racing? Not really, I do two very intense programs with Rebellion Racing and the Lotus F1 Team, I also did a lot of ice racing in the winter. When I am home, I spend a lot of time training physically. So, no, not much time to relax!
For me it was quite strange, I was always a big fan of sports: Football, Tennis, Skiing and Golf. I played in all these sports at a quite competitive level. I did some karting but just for fun. When I graduated from Columbia College, I asked to try a Formula Renault; it was my dad's gift for graduation. After my first day of testing, I was quicker than all the kart men who had been racing for years! So I moved forward but I was still working on the side. When I started winning in Formula 3 I thought: "That's what I really want to do and I can do it."
What do you want to achieve in the next five years?
Is there anyone that has helped you with advice on your profession?
I was a massive fan of Ayrton Senna because he was a perfect racing driver.
My dad has always been a big help and really supported me. My engineer in Formula 3, Patrick Turbiez, greatly helped me progress and took me to the next level. Eric Boullier was also one of the people who helped me very much; he helped me believe in myself and he has always given me good advice for my career. How do you go about getting sponsors or are people approaching you these days due to your recognition? Most of my sponsors have been with me for a long time, something I am very proud of. I have signed some new contracts in the last few years, and the good results I have had recently have certainly helped.
I want to win Sebring and Le Mans. I have already won Petit Le Mans. If I can hold all three trophies, that would be great! And why not many of each! I would also like to keep working with the Lotus F1 Team, and win some more Andros Trophies! Who did you look up to in the world of racing when you were younger?
Have you raced against your Dad ever even just for fun? Yes of course. We raced together on the Andros Trophy. We also do some karting together sometimes, also with my little brother Sacha.

Has anyone influenced you with your choice of vocation? No, I think it was really a personal choice. Do you have a particular time that you can look back on and think to yourself that it was a defining moment in your racing? I think Formula 3 was really the most important step in my career. This is where I started being really competitive. Lastly, Nicolas, what would you say is your life’s ambition? To win as many races and titles as possible! 2013 9th Montreal, Canada Sebastian Vettel started on pole and went on to take his first win in Canada. He led almost all the way through, opening up a lead almost immediately. Lewis Hamilton was second for most of the race, holding out well, despite his worries about his braking not being as sharp as he would have liked. Fernando Alonso started in sixth and drove a calculated race to pass Lewis’s Mercedes with nine laps to go and take the second place on the podium. Lewis hung on to take third place. Kimi Raikkonen, who was second in the standings coming into the race had a difficult time and must have been gutted to be lapped by Sebastian before completing half distance. Mark Webber finished fourth after suffering front wing damage when tangling with the Caterham of Giedo van der Garde when he lapped him, who received a 10-second stopand-go penalty for the incident. McLaren failed to score a point for the first time in three years.

The worker was the victim of an unfortunate accident that occurred at the end of this afternoon's Formula 1 Grand Prix. The worker was helping to recover a car which had stopped during the race. The recovery vehicle had lifted the car to return it to the Sebastian Vettel pits and while doing this the worker dropped his radio and attempted to pick it up. As he did this, he stumbled and was hit and run over by the recovery vehicle. The worker was transported via helicopter to hospital. Silverstone Classic Media Pre-View by Jill Carter & Photos by Tim Surman A taste of the Silverstone Classic, which is held this month on 26th to the 28th July, was presented to the world’s media recently, who turned out for the pre-event Media Day at the home of British motor sport. Tim Surman Costa Car Trader’s prolific motor racing photographer represented us royally providing first class photos and also enjoying the opportunity to experience passenger rides around the circuit.
Visitors to this 23rd Classic will be wowed by the depth and breadth of activities. For racing enthusiasts there are twenty-four races spanning eight decades of motoring history, amongst these will be found F1 Grand Prix cars, single seaters, sports cars, GT cars and touring cars. Try not to miss the spectacular dusk race for GT racing cars with a full grid of fifty-eight cars looming through the increasing gloom with headlights glaring. David Coulthard gets a ride.
Over 100 car clubs have registered to attend and it is hoped that the record number of 7,000 cars on display in 2012 will be exceeded. In the exhibition area motoring memorabilia, an auto jumble, clothing and accessories, art and photography plus much more can be fossicked through to discover that little gem. Live music continues after the Racing on Friday and Saturday with the Headliner act “The Hollies” playing Saturday whilst the all female group Tetra Electra will entertain visitors on Sunday afternoon.

Ride 5: Alcoy and Guadalest 13th Broken Bones Run Despite the 'threat' of a full day riding spectacular but challenging roads, a surprising number of other brave fellows took time out of their hectic schedules (sic?!) to have a go at using their bikes for the purpose that God intended: instilling jealousy and envy in other road users as we waft past them in their 'cages'! So 10am and we were off. First leg up the AP7 and joining the A7/E15 heading north. We arrived at the outskirts of Alicante 'enconvoy' and took the CV800/N340 exit directly after the tunnel. This was where the ride really began. The road to Jijona is made up of straights and mostly long sweeping bends with good 'through vision' meaning the light traffic we encountered was easily dispatched by smooth, swift overtakes. We headed on towards Alcoy - up over the 'Puerta de la Carrasqueta' pass and down into Alcoy itself. The Santuario de la Font Roja is set in a massive nature park and the road through it to the Santuario is worth the trip alone! We don't get too many opportunities to ride through forests in this part of Spain and the aroma of the pines hanging in the air was intoxicating! Arriving at the top, the views from the Santuario over Alcoy and the surrounding valleys made a great backdrop and I think everyone made the most of it as they lined up to take/be in photos. There's also a small but extremely interesting museum on site and entrance is FREE! We took the CV785 to Benifallim before rejoining the CV70. This stretch proved to be a real gem. Judging by the number of bikes we saw it's well known to the locals, some of whom were most 'enthusiastic'. One rider (Kamikazi?) in particular came flying past our group and we weren't 'hanging about' ourselves! When he passed our leader, Rob was 'saluting' a rider going the opposite way, which resulted in Mr Reckless receiving a slap on the helmet (Oooerrr, Maatron!) from Rob's hand as he went past! LOL! Arrival at Guadalest saw conversation centering around the incredible switch backs, climbs and vistas we had just experienced. The CV70 from Alcoy to Guadalest is listed in the top 100 roads to ride in Europe on the interwebthingy! Getting back was via Callosa dâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;en Sarria and Polop. From where we followed the N332 past Villajoyosa and then turned south on the A7/E15 towards home.

2nd June Italy, Mugello Jorge Lorenzo took the win in Italy for the third successive year, leading home championship leader Dani Pedrosa and Britain’s Cal Crutchlow. Pedrosa started on pole and despite a customary good start, he ran wide on turn one and Lorenzo took the lead. Marc Marquez was biting at Pedrosa’s heels, eventually overtaking him, before an unforced error caused the rookie to crash out, thereby ending his consecutive podium finishes. Pedrosa reclaimed second and held onto it until the end. Crutchlow made the podium for the second time in two weeks, becoming the first British rider since 1987 to take back-to-back podium finishes. The crowd were disappointed to see Valentino Rossi crash out. 16th June Catalunya, Catalunya Saturday had seen Dani Pedrosa smash Casey Stoner’s 2008 lap record en route to an impressive pole position for the Repsol Honda Team rider’s 200th Grand Prix weekend. In a repeat of the last race, Jorge Lorenzo overtook Pedrosa on turn one to take the lead and ultimately the race win, to reduce his gap to Pedrosa in the table to just 7 points. Marc Marquez had a scare and came very close to losing the front end of his bike on the penultimate lap, but held on and took third place just six hundredths of a second behind Pedrosa. Another all-Spanish podium in the second Spanish race of the season was delightful for the crowd. 29th June Assen, Netherlands We will report on this next month.
