Remember the opening sequence from the 1969 film 'The Italian Job'? We see a gorgeous red Lamborghini Miura cruising through the Alps as the music plays and the titles role. We follow the car round the sharp corners and steep drops until it enters a tunnel and explodes into a ball of flames. The wreckage of the car is then dragged out of the tunnel by a mafia-controlled bulldozer, pushed off the cliff and left to roll down the mountainside. It was always assumed that the car was destroyed duuring the filming, but it has been found in pristine condition and bought by a British man who owns a Classic Car Showroom. How you may ask? Well, apparently the opening scene was shot using two cars, both supplied by Lamborghini, but only one of them was destroyed in the filming, while the other remained intact. The car's new co-owner, Iain Tyrrell, received a tip-off at Christmas that the Miura had been spotted. He was invited to see the vehicle, and was given three hours to verify it. “I was initially sceptical because no one had seen it for 46 years. But my source was a credible one so I started to pursue it,” he said. “It was all very James Bond-ish, I had to go to Paris to inspect the car in a secret underground car park.” Mr Tyrrell, who owns Cheshire Classic Cars, said: “The Italian Job Lamborghini is the holy grail of supercars precisely because no one knew what happened to it after the film. After inspecting the car, there is no doubt in my mind that it is the Miura from The Italian Job.” Mr Tyrrell and co-owner, Keith Ashworth, plan to display the Lamborghini, which is reportedly worth £1 million, around the world.

MOTORS IN THE NEWS Toy Car Collection. Retired car dealer Raymond Hainsworth, 78, from Skipton, built a collection of about 3,000 toy cars and trains which has sold at auction for £227,000. Hainsworth built up his hoard over 50 years and has said he was now "missing my collection". The highlight of the auction was a black and white Dinky lorry in the Corn Sweeteners livery, which sold for £6,960 including commission.
Flying Car. A two seater flying car which drives on normal roads, uses petrol and can take to the sky will go on sale in 2017. Vaculik envisions a future where flying cars fly slightly lower than planes and trips by ‘flying taxi’ are common. ‘We don’t even need airports,’ CEO Vaculik said. The AeroMobil is already near final prototype stage and unlike other rivals, meets the criteria both for planes and for road vehicles in Europe – although Vaculik admits there are still some hurdles regarding where the plane is allowed to fly and take off. On the ground, the Czech-built vehicle can hit 100 mph and it flies at up to 124mph on twin propellers. It can land on just 150 feet of grass and fly for up to 430 miles. Its makers hope it will ‘change personal transport on a global scale’.
MINI Superleggera Vision. On the eve of the Concorso d’Eleganza MINI unveiled its Superleggera Vision, the first formal collaboration between the brand that loves to motor and the legendary Italian coach building firm Touring Superleggera. The open-top compact two seater roadster is born from a British - Italian romance, and the concept car inherits the best that each of its parents has to offer. It has a longer bonnet on the typical MINI stance, all unnecessary equipment or decoration is sacrificed, as performance is gained through lightness and efficiency of the bodywork and interior. The Italian touch is in the proportions and the typical waistline. And it’s a high waistline, but it serves the car well. While the MINI Superleggera Vision is a one off concept car, we're hopeful a production model just like it will be released in the near future. It confirms another automotive truth; less can be more. Peter Schwarzenbauer, board member in charge of Mini, Rolls-Royce, BMW motorcycles and group aftersales, has been a big fan of the Superleggera since its unveiling but he said "I cannot confirm that it has been approved for production yet."

1st Meeting: Calafat Circuit 15 March 2015 A difficult result to assimilate but understandable considering all factors. We knew that the first test would not be easy, the first time the car was out on track after a long transformation, a track where I had only run once and we had many tuned Hondas in our category. The day started badly after a nasty accident in the paddock, something very unusual, and I got goosebumps after seeing the consequences of the accident. The first two sessions were cancelled due to the accident so that left us with only 4 helf hour sessions which we had to make the most of. At last we were out on track at 11:30, then I could see several flaws in the car that would cause problems throughout the day. My best lap times were coming down 12

session by session and in the last round of the afternoon my best lap score was 1.47:1 a time far away from the competition but expected due to our 0% knowledge of how the car was going to perform... We will be at Albacete circuit for a trackday on April 5th and then back again to Albacete on June 6th for the 2nd round of the TimeAttack championship. Two times WRC Champion Carlos Sainz was born in Madrid in April 1962. He had his first rally entry in Portugal in 1987 driving a Ford Sierra Cosworth, but had to wait until Acropilis in Greece in 1990 for his first win with a Toyota Celica GT Four. Once started there was no looking back and that year he won the first of his World Rally Championship titles with Toyota, which he repeated in 1992. He became Champion of the FIA's World Cup Rally Cross Country with Volkswagen Race Touareg in 2007 and his last big win was as winner of the Dakar Rally for Volkswagen Race Touareg II, becoming the first Spaniard to win the car section, plus the first victory for a Spanish team. Sainz has had a most prolific career that includes 196 rally starts with a tally of 97 podiums including 26 wins, the most successful Spanish driver of modern time. His marriage to Reyes VĂĄzquez de Castro in 1992 produced three children; Blanca (1993), Carlos (1994) and Ana (1998). It is Carlos the son that is currently driving in his first season as an F1 driver.
Carlos Sainz Jnr. began driving karts aged seven and aspired to be a Formula 1 driver. He worked hard and was rewarded when aged twenty he was invited to join the Red Bull F1 junior team Toro Rosso for the 2015 season, partnering the seventeen year-old Dutchman Max Verstappen. Sainz Jr won his promotion after claiming the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 series title. Sainz Jr performed well in Melbourne, Australia bringing his car home in 9th place to collect 2 points in his first ever Grand Prix. It could have been more if his pit crew had not scuppered his chances by mucking up the pit stop with a very slow change of his left rear wheel. Prior to this he had been as high as 5th in the running order. He drove a highly controlled race to claw his way back and the future looks bright for this determined racer. The Spanish sports fans are historically into MotoGP more than F1 but the F1 following has increased with the success of Fernando Alonso who sadly had to miss Melbourne due to a crash in pre-season practice. Upon his return to racing we will have two exciting Spanish drivers to cheer on.

2015 15th March Melbourne, Australia Formula One's season-opener saw only 15 cars start the race, with Manor Marussia not competing due to not having participated in qualifying, Williams driver Valtteri Bottas didn't race due to a back injury he sustained during qualifying, new Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat skidded into the gravel during a reconnaissance lap and a power unit failure to McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen's car caused the engine to blow before completing a formation lap. Current World Champion Lewis Hamilton was on pole and had a great start to maintain his lead into turn one. Nico Rosberg was close behind as the Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen almost touched. The Sauber of Felipe Nasr forced its way between Kimi’s and Pastor Maldonado’s cars, with the Lotus ending up in the wall, bringing out the safety car.
Once the race restarted, Lewis drove a controlled race, maintaining the gap to team-mate Nico throughout as the Mercedes left the rest of the field behind. Ferrari's improved form was confirmed as Sebastian Vettel took third, beating Williams's Felipe Massa. Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen, became the youngest starter in F1 history (17) but retired with car trouble. Teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. collected 2 points by finishing in 9th on his F1 debut (see Jill’s article on page 13).

Formula E is the new FIA single-seater championship and the world's first fully-electric racing series. 15th March 2015: Miami, USA Jean-Eric Vergne was on pole for Andretti and was chased and eventually overtaken by Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird. Issues with energy put them both out of contention for the win. As the drivers swapped cars, Daniel Abt moved into the lead, just ahead of Nicolas Prost with Lucas di Grassi close behind. Andretti debutant Scott Speed made his way up the pack to sit behind Prost. Prost overtook Abt with a great move and Speed also forced his was Nicolas Prost through but was unable to overtake Prost in the last lap. Nicolas Prost took his first win and also the championship lead. Di Grassi came home in ninth, meaning that for the first time, he’s not leading the championship. The next race is in Long Beach, USA on 4th April. Watch it live on ITV4.

Season News Fernando Alonso didn’t drive in Australia as a result of his crash last month. He has since completed several hours on the McLaren simulator and passed the medical test, so will be racing in Malaysia. Germany will not host a Grand Prix this year for the first time since 1960. Hockenheim hosted the event in 2014 and is supposed to alternate with the Nurburgring. However, the Nurburgring has changed ownership and refused to pay the hosting fees for the race in July. Hockenheim was asked to step in but track officials failed to agree terms with F1 commercial boss Bernie Ecclestone. The Motorsport Month by Richard O'Rourke WRC: Mexico 5-8th March 2015 Rally Mexico was all about Ott Tanak and his dramatic accident which has been viewed by millions on You Tube and the WRC site. All the drivers got over the formality of the opening televised stage before tackling the dust, heat and altitude of the rally proper where Tanak stole the limelight when he rolled his Ford Fiesta down a bank and into a lake where, luckily, the car landed upright allowing the crew to escape before sinking rapidly in five metres of water. Incredibly the car was later fished out and, after an all night session, the mechanics had the car ready for the restart on day three. Not surprisingly he was soon renamed Titanak by the Ford boys who saw the lighter side and no doubt lapped up the publicity. Not to be outdone by Tanak’s antics, there were other drivers providing some action as well and Hayden Paddon (Hyundai), Kris Meeke (Citroen), Robert Kubica (Ford) and Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) all had accidents which lost them time and effectively put them out of contention. At the end of a dramatic day, and despite running first on the road, it was the familiar sight of Sebastien Ogier out front in his VW Polo with team mate Jari Matti Latvala in second with Mads Ostberg in third in his Citroen. On day three (Saturday) Latvala pushed too hard in his pursuit of Ogier and crashed out, the damage to the left rear of the car proving too much to be able to continue. This promoted Ostberg to second and Andreas Mikkelson to third in the B Team VW. These positions remained the same on the short final day and Welshman, Elfyn Evans had his best ever result with a fourth place finish for Malcolm Wilson’s M Sport Ford team while Spain’s Dani Sordo recovered from a puncture on the last day to finish fifth for Hyundai. Ogier now has a commanding lead in the championship with three wins from three and is already odds on the retain his WRC crown.

The Jaguar Enthusiasts Club get together in March at Restaurant Heradura in Los Montesinos saw a record attendance with 36 cars and 98, yes 98 people, just shows we must be doing something right. I think the weather helped, what a glorious day in all respects, blue skies, balmy temperatures and mostly empty roads. Can you imagine cruising with “the top down” anywhere in Good Old Blighty in March, not a chance! As it happened, our good friends from the Phoenix Classic Car club also had their meeting just down the road, so it was an ideal opportunity for some of our members to enjoy the collection of classic cars before coming to La Heradura for our meeting. On arrival, we mostly congregated on the outside terrace, enjoying the beautiful sunshine and warm temperatures. Then it turns out that we had set some other new records for the Oldest Attendee with one members father aged 91 and we eclipsed the furthest travelled record, one couple came all the way from Marbella, some 530 km.
May I take this opportunity to offer a very special thank all those that attended especially the people that have never been before. As always a big thank you to Ian McMenemy, our dedicated Events Director for all his hard work organising this event, and a special mention and thanks to David Shea for his sterling work on our Facebook pages and David Sleap for his help making sure everything runs smoothly. 36 beautiful Big Cats, polished to within an “inch of their lives”. It made “an old man” very happy, what an amazing sight. I am not going to try and mention all the cars, there were so many that deserved a special mention but, to do them justice would take up too much room in this article. Motorbike Licence in Spain "Carpe diem!" Ever listened to the "potato potato" of a Harley as it passed on the street transporting it's rider to a clandestine 'meet' with his 'Bros', and thought "I can do that! I love Sons of Anarchy me!" Or maybe it's MotoGP that rings your bell? After watching those amazingly talented racers, who can honestly say that they haven't felt a strange urge to dress like a Power Ranger and "get one's knee down old chap!" Eh? But whether you're the next Jax Teller or Marc Marquez, there's the small matter of 'legalities' to deal with first.

(In Spain, you'll need a 'residencia' and an NIE before you can do ANY of the following.) If you're unlucky enough to find that your licence doesn't have an 'A' on it, then your options may be more limited than you realise. So, before you order those blue, purple and 'dayglo' green leathers or stop shaving and start calling everyone 'dude'; lets look at getting a motorcycle licence shall we? LICENCE CLASS/PERMIT: "AM" Teenagers can ride a 50cc 'ciclomotor' in Spain from the age of 15. They have to pass a theory test (225 Euros) and a practical test (exam 25 Euros and 25 Euros per training session for the practical exam). LICENCE CLASS/PERMIT: "A1" Once you reach the age of 16 you can opt for the "A1" permit. This allows you ride upto (but NOT above) 125cc. There are 2 theory and 2 practical tests. The cost of these is approx. 350 Euros with an average of 30 Euros per session for training/preparation for the practical test. LICENCE CLASS/PERMIT: "A2" It is now illegal to ride any motorcycle over 125cc until you are 18 years old! At 18, IF you have previously passed the A1 test, then to gain an A2 permit you only have to pass one practical test. Driving Schools charge an average of 65 Euros per sessions to prepare for this test. This then allows you to ride motorcycles up to "35KWH". Which basically means that your choice of bike will be limited to mid-range or below (although some larger capacity machines can be fitted with 'restrictor kits' effectively reducing their power output). LICENCE CLASS/PERMIT: "A" This is what we used to refer to as a "full" bike licence. To get this you must be over 20 years old. There is NO test, but you must complete an accredited 'course' at a Driving School. The course consists of one day theory and one day practical and costs around 200 Euros. "Sit back down!" Lol!! Before all you more mature folks rush off to the driving Schools...you MUST have held an A2 type permit for a minimum of TWO YEARS prior to be able to apply for an A type or "full" permit/licence So, things have moved on since I wobbled around the block on a 250cc Honda whilst some guy with a clipboard hid in doorways/behind trees (I kid you not!!). As you can see, there's no 'set' price for getting your bike licence. the sessions required before passing the test will vary from person to person. It is harder to get a "full" bike licence now, but I can guarantee you will NOT regret it!
