Ford's tough new Ranger pickup offers customers improved fuel efficiency, a bold new design and cutting-edge technologies when it arrives in European showrooms early this year. Led by the flagship Wildtrak model, the Ranger overtook its rivals to become Europe's No. 1. The current Ford Ranger has generated rapid sales growth in Europe since it was first introduced in late 2011. This new Ranger offers outstanding fuel economy, with a more efficient powertrain range - enhanced by AutoStart-Stop technology, the introduction of Electric Power Assisted Steering delivers reductions in fuel consumption of up to 17%. The improved diesel line up features 130bhp and 160bhp variants of Ford's latest 2.2 and 3.2ltr TDCi engines. Both six speed manual and automatic, 4WD and 2WD variants with the Wildtrak model being 4WD as standard. An array of driver assistance technologies are available for greater comfort and convenience, including Lane Keeping Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition and much more. The Ranger remains one of the most capable and versatile trucks in its class. Customers can choose from three bodystyles: two door Regular Cab, Super Cab with additional rear hinged doors and four door Double Cab. No official price has been set as yet but we would expect it to be around 25-30k.

2016 Ferrari GTC4Lusso. Does this Ferrari look familiar? It's the new look and new name Ferrari FF, the Italian marque's four-wheel-drive grand tourer. The updated car now takes the GTC4Lusso name and gets subtle styling upgrades to mark it out from its predecessor. Aerodynamic improvements include a new front grille with integrated air intakes, new air vents on the rear wing, a roofmounted rear spoiler and a new diffuser. Ferrari says the result is a drag coefficient that is “substantially lower” than that of the Ferrari GTC4Lusso FF. Powering the GTC4Lusso is the same 6.2-litre V12 engine already fitted to the FF, but with power raised from 651bhp to 680bhp. The car will do 0-60mph 0.3 seconds faster than the FF, while its top speed is the same at 208mph. James Bond DB10. Last month we told you that one of the Aston Martin DB10’s from the film Spectre was up for auction with a reserve of £1m. Well, it sold for £2.4m and the money went to charity. Most of the DB10s were modified for use in the filming of Spectre but two were left unmodified for display. The film is reported to have destroyed $36m (£25m) worth of cars during shooting.

The hype around the new BBC Top Gear show reached a frenzy last month as the other presenters were announced. Joining Chris Evans are 5 more presenters. Who are they? Rory Reid, 36, motoring journalist Rory won the public audition after submitting a 30 second video clip. His career includes being the Cars & Computing Editor for CBS Interactive, a technology correspondent for BBC Radio 5 Live and presenter on Sky One's technology show Gadget Geeks.

Sabine Schmitz, 46, racing driver & TV presenter Sabine grew up in her parents' hotel near the Nürburgring and became an expert on the track working as a driver there. After appearing on Top Gear she presented a motoring show on German TV. In 2008, Schmitz competed in the Nürburgring 24-hour race, finishing third.

Other details about the new show are being gleamed little by little. The Stig will be returning and the test track is thought to have been extended, suggesting that the celebrity fastest lap will be back. Matt and Chris E were seen filming with two Reliant Robins (above) and the expected date for the first show is Sunday May 8th.

40 Pedal Car

This iconic British pedal car was manufactured by the Austin Motor Company Limited in a specially constructed factory at Bargoed in South Wales. It was set up to help disabled Welsh miners find a new and rewarding interest in life. Altogether there were two hundred and fifty men employed in the factory and they were supported by a doctor and an experienced rehabilitation officer. The factory opened in July of 1945 and was named the Austin Junior Car Factory, it employed solely disabled coal miners. The funds were provided by the Government and the business was purely non-profit making.

The Settrington Cup

Some of you may have seen the J40 racing at Goodwood Revival in the Settrington Cup piloted by keen youngsters aged 4-10 years old madly pedalling to reach the chequered flag ahead of their rivals. 30 cars line up on the grid in this two part race split into Saturday and Sunday´s schedule, then race from just after the chicane to the finish line negotiating a small temporary chicane on route. The cars are in their own individual pit garage and can be viewed throughout the weekend. Many of the competitors are related to the meeting´s drivers and entrants. The Cup has been presented by Sir Stirling Moss in the three years it has been contested.

There were two models produced, firstly the Pathfinder Special based on the Jamieson Austin Seven racing car of the 1930's followed in 1950 by the Junior Forty (J40) based on the 1948 A40 Devon & Dorset model. Left-over metal from the Longbridge factory was used to build the cars in exactly the same manner as their road cars. 32,098 J40 pedal cars were produced from 1950 until the last one rolled off the production line in September 1971. The Plant continued until April 1999 but was converted to producing parts for the “A” series. To buy a fully restored J40 will put you back in excess of 8.000 Euros and even a box of bits before the rebuild will not be far off 1.000 Euros. The J40 sold for twenty-seven pounds, plus the ubiquitous six pounds added purchase tax and was considered to be one of the best pedal car marques available at that time. However, this was priced outside most working man´s reach as it cost 2-3 times the weekly wage. It came “fully loaded” with working headlights and horn, leather cloth seating, Dunlop pneumatic tyres, a life-like fascia panel, a boot and bonnet that opened and was finished to a high standard with quality chrome components. 2015 World Rally Championship The first two rounds of the World Rally Championship have taken place in Monte Carlo and Sweden and, on the face of it, nothing much has changed. Sebastien Ogier won both events and already looks as though he is heading for another championship win in his VW Polo but in his wake it is all change with Hyundai, Ford and Citroen all much closer than they have been in the recent past. Kris Meeke had led the rally twice and was just 4 seconds behind Ogier in Monte Carlo when he hit a rock with such force that it tore the sumpguard off his Citroen DS3 and broke it’s gearbox. The rock was on the “racing line” and some questions were asked as to how come only one car hit it. There have always been stories of dubious spectator interference on this rally and even underhand dealing by the organisers (the Mini headlight controversy in 1966) but one way or another Meeke was out and Ogier cruised to victory ahead of team mate Andreas Mikkelsen and the Hyundai of Thierry Neuville. Mads Ostberg had a good fourth place in his Fiesta while Elfyn Evans brought his WRC2 Ford home in 8th place. As well as Meeke, the other significant driver to fall foul of the icy conditions was Latvala who had a spectacular exit when he slid off the road into a ditch and from there to a field full of spectators. He regained the road but not before damaging his suspension beyond repair. In Sweden it was Meeke again who kept Ogier honest but once again it was a rock which led to his downfall. The rock, on the edge of a fast right hand bend, ripped the suspension from the DS3 and that was that. Hayden Paddon took up the chase in his Hyundai and drove a brilliant rally to finish second. Ostberg once again shone in the Fiesta and finished third while Latvala had his second retirement from two and is now well adrift of Ogier in the championship. Ireland and Wales were well represented by Craig Breen and Elfyn Evans, the Irishman finishing 8th on his debut for Citroen while Evans was 9th in his Ford. The organisers were in a bit of a panic before the start as there had been very little snow on the stages resulting in the cancellation of the first two tests. The rally, as usual, crossed the border into Norway where there was plenty snow and then, a decent overnight fall meant that is was business as usual for the next two days.

Monte Carlo Formula 1 F1 testing is taking place in Barcelona as I write this and the latest info is that Ferrari were fastest on day one while Mercedes had put in the most laps and showing monotonous reliability. For the technically minded among you, Ferrari have abandoned the pull rod front suspension which they favoured over the past few seasons and have fitted a push rod system favoured by most of the other teams and the drivers, Vettel and Raikkonen, declared a preference for the new layout.

Button was sixth fastest for McLaren but, more to the point, the new car had shown some reliability which bodes well for the season ahead. Both Red Bull and Renault (formerly Lotus) were off the pace, the engine still not producing the goods to compete with Mercedes and Ferrari while the newcomers, Haas F1, had a happy debut and put in a few decent laps before a front wing fell off and the mechanics had to drill a few holes and bolt it on again. Good to see that in the modern CAD-CAM world a bit of old fashioned mechanical ingenuity is still of value. Williams, Force India and Toro Rosso all showed their new cars but Sauber turned up in the 2015 chassis with some new bits, the new car expected at the next test in a few weeks time. The newly named and new look Manor team also took part in the test and showed a bit of promise and all in all it looks like we might have battles at the front, middle and tail end of the grid in the coming season. Here’s hoping!

Sunday 21st February saw 16 old cars gather at the Lo Monte Hotel on the N332 for coffee before setting off on the rally. The convoy started off along the AP7 and then the MU301 to Sucina and after 25 minutes of dual carriageway we turned off and skirted around the north side of Sucina and followed the local road around the golf course until we branched off onto the FM48.

This narrow road took us up over the hills until we dropped down the mountain on the other side, it soon became a fun drive with hairpins and twisty tight turns, the views over the mountains and valleys were breath taking. After 13 kilometres we reached the bottom and crossed over the MU301 again towards Le Pedrera. We passed by the fields of almond tress, still holding on to most of their blossom. Then on past a couple of sheep farms to the reservoir, although it was cloudy the lake still looked emerald green. We had chosen to eat at the Club Members at La very Spanish La Fortaleza Restaurant where 35 of us Fortaleza Restaurant enjoyed a three course lunch with a couple of drinks. Jensen Interceptor for sale at £150,000

Eric Morecambe purchased this sports car in 1968 for £4,500 and kept it in a garage at his home. He was the car’s sole owner and was eventually sold to an auction house in 2014 although the comedian had passed away 30 years earlier in 1984. Buyer Silverstone Auctions contracted Jensen specialists Cropredy Bridge to restore the car's engine, brakes and bodywork.

The Jensen was Lancashire-born Morecambe's favourite car, although not everything about it pleased him. In 1970 he wrote to the company's managing director to complain about the bodywork. "Whilst bearing in mind that even the best chrome does not last for ever, the car has not had much use as the mileage is now only fourteen-and-a-half thousand miles and has always been kept in a garage. As for the paint work, I would refrain from comment, but would say that it is not what I expect of a £4,500 motor car" he wrote. Jensen ﬁxed the defects. Big Boots to Fill Yes I know. "They're ONLY boots!" I bought these boots in 1994 at the BMF Show in Peterborough. They had a slight fault where the stitching hadn't caught the lining at the top of the boot. When I got home I super-glued it and it never came apart. Price? 20 British pounds!!! Bargain! These boots have covered almost every road in Wales, all weathers and never leaked! They've toured England, Scotland and Ireland on numerous occasions. I've worn them whilst riding in France, Andorra, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Slovenia, Portugal, Monaco and Spain! Possibly even others, my memory's not what it was!

Fans enjoyed three days of action-packed entertainment at the ExCeL Centre in London’s Docklands. The event’s live auction saw over one hundred bikes sold including one for a huge £176,000. A special 20th anniversary celebration of the British Superbike Championship, featuring eight of the most iconic machines from the series’ history. Joining the title winning motorcycles were five BSB legends; Niall Mackenzie, Neil Hodgson, Chris Walker, John Reynolds and Tommy Hill. These five, alongside Isle of Man TT hero John McGuinness kept fans entertained throughout the weekend in the high-octane thrills and spills free live action show, ‘Slide’ sponsored by Michelin.

They've seen Mont Blanc, stood on the shore of Lake Como, walked in Venice, rode the Grossglockner pass, around Lake Garda, over St. Bernards' Pass, and got scuffed on BOTH feet going up the Stelvio Pass! I've been cold in them and sweated in them. I've even worn them when I've been drunk (at rallys!), they've seen snow and ice; sun and dust! Although my jacket and trousers were cut off by the air-medics; these boots even accompanied me to hospital in the helicopter!! And they were the ones I put back on when I was eventually 'able' (a matter of opinion!) to ride again. I've seen, heard and done things in them that I wouldn't have missed for the world; and others that I wouldn't wish on anyone! So you see, they're NOT just boots. When I look at them I see many thousands of miles, numerous countries and all the 'adventures' of the past 20 years. Last year, they finally succumbed to the ravages of time. I will feel their reassuring strength and weight upon my feet no more. We will Well Travelled Boots travel no more roads nor experience new adventures together; these boots and I. I know they're ONLY boots, but still, I feel a little sad to say goodbye.... I think I got my 20 pounds worth though. Stay Safe. El Guiri.
