While we have been enjoying some lovely warm weather it seems our friends in the UK have been too. Jill Carter attended the Goodwood 72nd Member’s Meeting, which has been reinstated and was a great success. Jill mingled with many famous faces and writes the first part of her report this month, you can read it on page 8. El Guiri also enjoyed the warm weather, probably a bit too hot in those leathers! He takes us on a journey and gives us all another idea for a day out. We’re loving the new era of Formula One and this month we enjoyed the best bit of battling for a long time. Lewis is the man of the moment, but can he hang onto it as the other manufacturers improve their engine performance? CCT friend and Phoenix member, the late Tony Mansell onwed a Dodge Charger, which Keith at CarsRUs bought. He sent it to Garaje Alonso who completely restored it, Keith loves the car and is split whether to sell it or not... See the car on page 13 and if you are interested in it, go and see Keith. The arrival of the new M4 Convertible is BMW's latest addition to its high performance sports car line up. Like the M3 and M4 Coupe the cabrio has a strict adherence to lightweight construction, the bonnet and front side panels are made from aluminium along with many other components of its high performance chassis.
The M4 has the same running gear as its hard topped brother but has a little extra touch of coolness thanks to the electric folding roof. Power comes from a newly developed six cylinder in line 3.0ltr engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology which generates 431bhp, it will sprint from 0 to 100kmh (62 mph) in just 4.4 seconds with the optional seven speed M Double Clutch Transmission.

nd Members Meeting March by Jill Carter
This article is written in 2 parts, one this month concentrating on the members and non-racing interests whereas Part 2 will concentrate on the racing and drivers.
One must ask – how does Lord March arrange such perfect Jochen Mass Susie & Sir Stirling Moss weather for the majority of his events? Yet again the visitors enjoyed blue sky, warm sunshine and a slight breeze, perfect and most unseasonable for an early spring race meeting. Lord March decided to resurrect the members meeting that was an important fixture on the Goodwood calendar back in its heyday. The event was restricted to Goodwood Road Racing Photo by Jill Carter Members and their guests with the total number of tickets Photo by Jill Carter capped at 2,000. I interviewed Jochen Mass on Sunday morning and over a double expresso or two we soon went into chat mode. He always enjoys Goodwood and loves to be invited, what did he think of this new experience? “Well it seems very English and I don’t really understand it but people are having fun and that is always a good thing. There is room to move around and everyone is most friendly.” Leaving Jochen I bumped into Susie and Sir Stirling Moss who waxed lyrically about being reunited with the Ferrari 250 GTO for a demonstration and added that the commentary on the car radio helped him to know where and what his competitors were doing. I’m not sure if any other cars were fitted with radios but now of course it’s all about technological wizardry. Grover-Williams Trophy The Fun Fair The weekend was designed around car racing and apart from the Saturday night entertainment racing remained at the forefront of the event. To include the visitors into the spirit of the event four houses were created on the Hogwart’s theme. The head of each team was a well known racing driver and the houses were named after titles held by The Duke of Richmond. These were Methuen (captain Anthony Reid) 3,950 points, Darnley (captain Jochen Mass) 3,405, Torbolton (captain Emanuelle Piro) 3,077, and bringing up the rear Aubigny (captain Nic Minassian) 2,819. The first 4 drivers in all races scored points for their house. Goodwood Members were encouraged, cajoled and shamed into gaining points for the house they were allocated to support. Even I hurled a ‘wellie’ for Darnley house as my husband was ‘spannering’ for Sunday continued with racing and gaining house points. I a driver allocated to same. spoke with long-time members Ian & Linda Wardle late Sunday afternoon for their thoughts on the meeting. They Saturday Night Entertainment both welcomed the limitation on numbers attending as it made it so much easier to move around and see things. £120 per person for the meeting sounded a lot at first but with the evening entertainment and a choice of places to view the track compared well with other similar sporting activities and decided that the meeting was good value for money and they hoped there would be more to come. Saturday finished with a carnival atmosphere including a wall of death, gallopers, drum dancing troops and a lot more. Whilst inside a Great Hall dining experience which anyone familiar with the Harry Potter books and films would recall. The evening was rounded off by a spectacular fireworks display. 8
There were many smiling faces and aching feet as the members left the circuit, hopefully to return next year.

MOTORS IN THE NEWS Hennessey Venom GT. A special edition of the Hennessey Venom GT has been revealed to celebrate the car’s speed record of 270.4mph, set at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre last month. The special package wraps the hypercar in new red, white and blue livery. The Venom GT has 1244bhp available from its 7.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

Seat says that the new SUV is already two years into development at the company’s Martorell technical facility in Spain. The, as yet, unnamed car is likely to share engines and platform with other ‘compact SUVs’ made by its parent company, Volkswagen Group, such as the next-gen VW Tiguan and Audi Q3. Happy 50th. The 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang hasn’t gone unnoticed by the rest of the industry, including the muscle car’s fiercest rival, the Chevrolet Camaro. In a move that’s a nod of respect to the rivalry, the Camaro has just wished the Mustang a happy 50 years. 2014 30th March Sepang, Malaysia Lewis Hamilton took pole position and was determined to make up for his DNF in Australia. He took the lead off the line and held onto it, driving a faultless race to take the win by over 17 seconds. The other Mercedes of Nico Roseburg also performed well and took second place off the line. He was challenged by Sebastian Vettel later in the race, but was able to pull out a gap and take the second place on the podium. Sebastian took third place and I think he was just pleased to be on the podium! His team mate Daniel Ricciardo retired from the race after a mistake on his pit stop. Fernando Alonso came in fourth ahead of Nico Hulkenberg. Jenson Button was sixth, ahead of the Williams team, Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. Felipe was in line for some strong words after the race, since he ignored team orders to allow the faster William’s of Valtteri to pass him to challenge Jenson.
6th April Sakhir, Bahrain What a captivating display of racing, one of the best races I have seen for a long time, with wheelto-wheel racing between two teammates. Nico Roseburg was on pole, but Lewis Hamilton made a better start and took the lead at the first corner. Nico attempted to take the lead as he dived for the inside at the start of lap 18 and briefly took the lead, but run wide and Lewis chopped back across his nose to reclaim the lead. "Warn him that was not on," Nico said to his team over the radio. He tried again the following lap, but again Lewis held him off. After the pit stops, by lap 40 Lewis built up a 10 second gap on his teammate thanks to his new soft tyres. Nico had medium tyres, deciding to save his soft’s for the last stint. Then disaster struck for Lewis - the safety car was triggered by a dangerous collision between Esteban Gutierrez and Pastor Maldonado. The restart was on lap 47, and Mercedes co-team boss Paddy Lowe got on the radio to both drivers to warn them to "make sure you bring both cars home". Nico was determined to reclaim the lead and passed his teammate several times into Turn One and through Turn Four, but each time he was stopped by Lewis’s aggressive defence. It was thrilling to watch, at times it looked like they were going to collide with the chance of taking out both cars.

"He was very fast on the option tyres at the end. I was on a knife edge throughout but it was great fun." "I strongly dislike finishing second to Lewis but on the other hand it was the most exciting race I have ever had in my whole career," said Nico. "Today was a day for the sport. I hope you all had a lot of fun”.

20th April Shanghai, China This month’s reports have been dominated by Lewis Hamilton, as he took his third consecutive win for the first time in his career. Sebastian had refused a team order to let Daniel by in the middle of the race but was unable to stop Daniel passing him. An error by the official waving the chequered flag resulted in the race being shortened by two laps.

Red Bull announced a new addition the steering wheel of its Formula One racers. The new system would allow its drivers to tweet live during a race.
Cooper T.. MINI unveiled the first ever vehicle that would be powered by what it calls a "tea-leaf biofuel composite". The Mini would be available in a variety of colours, including 'Chamomile Yellow', 'Red Bush' and 'Earl Grey; and benefits from DAT or Dunk Avoidance Technology, which prevents owners and passerbys from inserting biscuits into the car's fuel tank. One of the windups that probably isn’t far from the truth, Peugeot announced plans to introduce personalised car horns, allowing drivers to "reflect their taste and character" in the audible warning sound emitted by their cars. Not only would drivers be able to choose from an extensive library of sounds, which will be constantly updated "in line with current trends in music, culture and lifestyle," but they'll also be able to create and upload their own noises. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles had allegedly teamed up with the RSPCA to teach rescue dogs to drive. Three dogs Tulip, Jacob and Harry have been taught to drive a Volkswagen Amarok, having learned to operate the brakes, the gears and the steering wheel at the Southridge RSPCA centre in Hertfordshire.

Jorge Lorenzo made a error at the start and incurred a ride through penalty, leaving Marc Marquez, who was on pole, to take the lead and ride off into the distance and take the win. Dani Pedrosa tried to keep up with his teammate, but had to settle for second with Andrea Dovizioso taking the third spot on the podium. Marquez become the first rider to win the first two races of the year from pole in the premier-class since Mick Doohan in 1995. 27th April Santiago del Estero, Argentina As the race at Termas de Rio Hondo got underway Jorge Lorenzo took the lead at the beginning of the race, while Marc Marquez was caught in the pack behind. Marquez picked off the riders in front one by one, eventually overtaking Lorenzo 8 laps from the end. Dani Pedrosa had stayed with Marquez and he too overtook Lorenzo on the penultimate lap to take second. Lorenzo had to settle for third. Marc Marquez has now won all three races of the season so far.

Ride 12: Castillo del Mayorazgo de Ascoy Our group was led by Motorcycleman with Bikerboy acting as tailgunner. A well worn route was taken to San Miguel, Torremendo and then on to Hurchillo, in order to take the diverted 'rat run' through Orihuela. We set off for Abanilla along the RM423 then the CV836 into Pinoso for a pit stop and 'tiffin'! From Pinoso the group took the CV83, RM427 and RM344 to Jumilla. It's a great road with stunning scenery that sits far enough back from the road for you to be able to enjoy it whilst still 'pressing on'. At Jumilla we hooked up with the RM714 south towards Calasparra. After aprox. 15 Kilometers Rob saw the junction we wanted, as he sailed past it at 60mph! Lol!! A quick 'huey' was made once safe to do so and we soon 'back on track'; or at least on A track! "I've rode on worse!" was the general consensus.
Before too long we were resting in the shade provided by the impressive battlements of Castillo del Mayorazgo de Ascoy. Once we'd all stopped 'ooohing' and 'ahhhing' at the majestic crenellations and grandiose towers, Rob told us something of it's history: The 12 metre high walls were built in 1477, but the original was constructed by Alfonso X el Sabio in 1281 after he entered into the Knights Order of Santiago. This area was once 'frontier' land and incursions from the Muslim Kingdom of Granada were frequent and brutal! A massacre eventually led to the current stronghold and in the museum in nearby Cieza reference can still be found to this tragic event. (Thanks Mr Google! lol!). After Rob's Time Team bit, the riders made their way to the A30, cutting across to ride down the RM520 through the gorgeous Ricote Valley. At Archena, we took the RM411 to Fortuna for a final stop and chat, before heading home. Thanks to all for a great day. Stay safe, El Guiri
This is the first design from new outfit David Brown Automotive. After seeing the photo of the new Speedback, you might think that the company had something to do with Aston Martinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s founder Sir David Brown (the DB in DB5), but you would be wrong. Despite looking like a cross between a DB5 and DB7, David Brown from DB Automotive is no relation to AM's David Brown. The engine is a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 giving 510hp, with 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds. The engine comes from the Jaguar XKR, along with the 6-speed automatic gearbox. No news on release dates yet. Pricewise, the company says it will cost between 100,000 pounds and 1 million.
