Think of the classic 70's cop drama "The Professionals" and the car that immediately springs to mind for most would be the Ford Capri 3.0 S. Various models were used over the 57 episodes along with other makes that we shouldn't forget about...

From the start the producers planned on a deal coming through with Ford to use their cars. But by the time negotiations were complete they had already filmed a couple of episodes which featured British Leyland cars; Rover SD1, Rover P6, Princess, Triumph 2000, Dolomite Sprint and a Triumph TR7. Reliability issues with these cars caused delays and disruptions on set so the producers were desperate for the Fords. A firm favourite the RS2000
Cowley was often seen being chauffeured around in his Ford Granada 2.8i Ghia X Executive.

It explores Big Doors the possibilities of a fullyconnected, fully-interactive cabin, which has been created around the needs of permanently online passengers, the Friend-Me is a hub for information and entertainment.

Jim Stokes Workshops Ltd. - a company of special interest to the historic and classic car owners. by Jill Carter Jim and Hilary Stokes have built their business up over the past forty years starting from an outbuilding in their garden with one machinist and a mechanic to an internationally renowned company employing forty-five workers plus a couple of trainees. I accepted an invitation to an open day at their premises on the first of September that was well attended by past and present customers as well as local car clubs. I thought it may be of interest to classic car owners on the Costa Blanca as JSW is based at Waterlooville approximately twenty minutes drive from the Brittany Ferry terminal in Portsmouth. In 1992 the business moved to its present site and as word quickly spread so did the business. Machining grew rapidly and was split into a separate division. JSW offer a dedicated engine and parts renovation service and commonly manufacture cylinder heads, cylinder block, crankcases, oil pumps, water pumps and carburettors. These are almost a piece of artwork that one feels should be in the Tate Modern! Notable restorations include the 1932 Le Mans winning 8C 2.3 Alfa Romeo and the 1959 winning Aston Martin DBR1. No LanciaFerrari D50’s existed so JSW was charged with the task of reproducing six cars to the original specification. One has been seen several times at the Goodwood Revival.

Lancia-Ferrari D50’s JSW also offer a support service at race meetings for customers who like their car prepared and on “The Button” to race. It is not uncommon for the team to work through the night to ensure that the car will be ready and fit to race if a problem occurs in practice or qualifying. It seemed a natural progression to move into bodywork in 2011 and the response from customers has been overwhelming. Classic cars, which are defined as any car cherished by the owner, can be inspected for potential work from a barn-find to concours and discussed initially free of charge. JSW cater for the grass roots enthusiast whose MG, Morgan, Triumph etc. are just as important to the company as the owner of a several million pound historic racing car. A ball park figure can be offered for works but is of its nature variable as often problems are only found as you work on the vehicle. Classics by JSWL is a new, dedicated, dynamic organisation specifically for the classic car owner and enthusiast. JSW is undertaking work from all corners of the globe and is able to offer advice on shipping for interested customers. They have both a fluent Spanish and a French speaker for those who find English a problem. Prices for work per hour vary from £40 to £45 dependent upon the division. “Jim Stokes Workshops Ltd. The Motorcycle event held in Algorfa last month to raise money to help Valentina was very successful, despite the rain on Saturday! The event was attended by David Braceras, the Junior Motorcross Champion of Spain and Runner-Up in Europe. Bands and singers performed late into the night and everyone was up and dancing, the man playing the double bass climbed on it at one point and continued playing! In total over 2,000â‚Ź was raised and the family and friends of Valentina wish to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along or who have donated money.

MOTORS IN THE NEWS Spyker B6 Venator Spyder. The Dutch sports car manufacturer Spyker unveiled its new model in LA's Pebble Beach last month, the B6 Venator Spyder. With stylish looks, this electric two-seater features rear lights modelled on the jet engines of modern fighter planes. The car is very important to the future of Spyker in its fight for survival. At the moment, Spyker only make the C8 Aileron, with a production run of one a week, hand built to a customer's precise specifications in its factory with 45 staff. This type of customisation doesn't come cheap; the C8 sells for around 200,000€, whereas the B6 Venator Spyder is expected to sell for about 145,000€. There are plans to ramp up production next year to between 250 and 500 cars a year. Spyker had a long history dating back to 1880 initially as a carriage-maker, then moving onto cars and aeroplanes. It closed in 1925, but Viktor Muller resurrected the brand in 2000, saying he wanted to make a car that he wanted to drive. The company went public in 2004, but its shares have now been delisted, mainly due to its ownership of now bankrupt Saab.
See Through Car. Regular readers will know how much we like transparent cars, because they are the nearest thing we have to invisible cars. Well, one was cleverly shown at Frankfurt to showcase the next generation of automotive safety technology. TRW Automotive used a life size acrylic car 'driven' by models to demonstrate how it is working towards semi-automated driving. The company believes cars will be packed with more intelligent safety systems in the next decade that can anticipate road conditions and reduce the number of road accidents. The company's stand at the German show also used holographic films to showcase its new technologies.
Reliant Robin Not So Reliable. The three-wheeled Reliant Robin has came out on top as Britian's Worst Car in a poll of 2,000 motorists carried out by Discovery Channel's Wheeler Dealers. The Austin Maestro and Austin Metro came a close second and third respectively. The research also revealed that the average age of the boy racer is now 35 for men and 34 for women rather than the stereotypical newly qualified driver. The top boy racer car was the Ford Escort XR3i.

Audi Sport Quattro Concept The Audi Sport Quattro Concept has changed a lot since its debut in Paris 3 years ago. It's now an RS7-based coupe with the power of a Lambo, at just under 700bhp, thanks to its twin-turbo V8.
Audi's Nanuk concept car was a surprise. It's powered by a newly-developed 5.0-litre V10 TDI engine.

The Infiniti Q30 is a concept car at the moment, but shows a new premium C-segment car that will be launched to compete with the Audi A3.
Sebastien Loeb's Citroën C-Elysée WTCC added some horsepower to the show.

BMW i8 BMW's electric supercar certainly looks the part and you can buy one now in the UK for around £96,000, that's in the same ball park as Audi's R8. The future is changing and BMW are at the forefront. 12

Clocked Up on a Car Not just any car though, oh no, it was a Costa Car Trader favourite, a VW Golf. Yes, a trusty Golf has clocked up 507,759 miles since it was purchased new in 2001 by Roy Dyson in the UK.
Roy and his wife Doreen have not been abroad in 15 years, and travelled the equivalent of more than 20 times around the globe up and down stretches of the M5 and M6 motorways visiting famiily. The old Golf was fully serviced at a friend’s garage, with oil and filter changes every 6,000 miles, a cambelt change every 60,000 and apart from a few shock absorbers, two clutches and about 70 tyres, the car has survived the last 12 years without any breakdowns.

The Spaniard then passed his teammate Felipe on lap eight. Although Fernando closed the gap at times, a late pit stop for new tyres hampered his chances of closing in on Sebastian. Mark Webber had a good race, despite sustaining front wing damage when Fernando passed him and a damaged gearbox in the closing stages, meaning that he had to short-shift between second and third gear. He took the last place on the podium ahead of Felipe in fourth. Without the gearbox issue, it was likely he could have taken second.

22nd September Singapore, Singapore Sebastian Vettel sat on pole again and almost lost first place to Nico Rosberg who edged ahead into turn one. But Nico ran wide through turn two, which allowed Sebastian to go back ahead. Sebastian then sped ahead, opening up a 5 second gap in the first three laps. Nico held onto second place in the early laps from Fernando Alonso, who had made a breathtaking start from seventh on the grid to be third on the exit of the first sequence of corners on the first lap. The expected safety car period started on lap 25 after Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo crashed into the barriers. 6 laps later at the restart, Sebastian raced ahead, building a lead over Nico of over 3 seconds in just one lap. When the German made his final pit stop, he was able to do so without losing the lead and went on to take another great win. Fernando had pitted when the safety car was deployed, hoping to reach the end of the race without the need for any more new tyres. His strategy worked when he fell into second place once all the cars had finished their stops. Fernando drove well to keep his car in second and grab some much needed points as his Championship hopes eke further away. He finished in second, meaning he’s now 60 points behind Sebastian with only 150 still available in the remaining six races. Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen was third, putting in a good run as he prepares for his move to Ferrari next season. Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton took fourth and fifth.
Poor Mark Webber retired right near the end as his engine caught fire and then received a a 10-place grid penalty at the next race in Korea for accepting a lift back from Fernando.

1st Anniversary Party
Ride 8: Hole in the Ground A big journey for a small band of us this week, we met at El Realengo, then passed Almansa and onto the Ayhora Valley on the N330 before taking a right onto the CV437 for Alpera. Lovely long sweeping curves set in low lying rolling countryside reminiscent of Shropshire/Cheshire led us to the small village of Alpera. As we left there we followed signs for 'Cuevas de Vieja', continuing up and over a mountain on the CV438. As we climbed the road became narrower and the surface deteriorated a little. Rob had already forewarned the riders though and it wasn't a problem as 40-60 KPH was the fastest you could travel without launching yourself into the forested mountainside whilst distracted by some of the most spectacular views in the area. At the T-junction on the other side of the mountain, we turned left onto the CM332 and past Carcelen with it's town centre castle and then right onto the CM3201. This is a much faster paced road but equally enjoyable and it never ceases to amaze me that being in the middle of what seems to be a huge plain of arable land, you ride round a corner and descend into a 'Hole in the Ground'! The river Jucar has spent thousands of years carving deeper and deeper into the land to point where a town now sits astride it with cave houses scattered up the walls of the 'Hole' Alcala de Jucar. A stop for refreshments/rest/photos before heading back to the bikes. We took the CM3201 to Casas Ibanez, where Rob was momentarily 'surprised' to find a new bypass!! Nice bit of late indication and footboard scraping Rob!! Hee hee hee! Then it was the N322 all the way to Requena for a very nice but expensive lunch. After lunch was the Ayhora Valley (N330). This valley is stunning and sits further west than any other in Valencia. As we rode along, Rob helpfully pointed out such things as Confrentes Castle looming over the town on our left. Then as we met the wetlands formed by the rivers Jucar and Cabriel joining, he indicated the (extinct) volcano of Mount Agras (sadly we all thought he was disco dancing again!! and missed most of it! LOL!). After more fuel and medication, we went onto Yecla, Pinoso and Fortuna before arriving home, approx 500 kilometers in all. Thanks to all for yet another great day. Keep Dec 8th free folks! Marc Marquez started on pole, but Jorge Lorenzo took the lead on the first corner and defended well against both Marquez and Dani Pedrosa. Looking similar to the last race at Brno, Marquez took the lead with two laps remaining. The pair battled and had a slight contact before Lorenzo took the win just 81 thousandths of a second ahead of the rookie. Pedrosa completed the podium.
15th September Misano, San Marino
Marc Marquez started on pole again, but Jorge Lorenzo took the lead while Marquez dropped to third in the first lap. Lorenzo opened up a lead as Marquesa battled teammate Dani Pedrosa for second place. Lorenzo comfortably took the win, making it three years in a row at the Italian circuit. Marquesa took second and so retaining a 34 point lead in the championship ahead of joint second placed Lorenzo and Pedrosa. 29th September Motorland, Aragón We will report on this race next month.
