Rudolph and his gang may be up for early retirement when Santa gets his hands on a TF-X. With four seats there’s room for his little helpers to lighten the workload on the Christmas Eve. It’s capable of vertical take-off and landing, making the take off & landings easy. learning to drive the TF-X is likely to take just five hours, so Santa will soon be on his way and there’s a full-vehicle parachute system which acts as a back-up. Remember to keep your eye out on Christmas Eve 2019 for a parachuting Santa. With the Transition currently costing $279,000 (about £180,000), a starting price of over £200,000 is likely for the Terrafugia TF-X flying car.
The Terzo Millennio (concept car) which translates as third millennium in Italian is the creation of lamborghini, the worlds first “self-healing” sports car. Using sensors the car can conduct its own health check to detect any damages and self-repair itself by filling the crack with nanotubes to prevent it spreading. If only they could do they same for us humans.

THE MOTORSPORT MONTH by Richard O'Rourke 2017 Motorsport Month December 2017 The last weekend in October was a busy one in the three World Championship categories and, as expected, we saw Lewis Hamilton and Sebastien Ogier clinch the F1 and WRC titles while Marc Marquez had to wait until the final round of the Moto GP series in Valencia to claim his crown. Formula One The Mexican Grand Prix was an exciting affair with Hamilton and Vettel coming together on the first lap resulting in both having to pit, Hamilton with a puncture and Vettel with a broken front wing. They both returned to the fray but in the meantime Max Verstappen jumped into the lead and won the race from Bottas and Raikkonen with Vettel finishing fourth. Ninth place was all Hamilton could manage but it was enough to give him his fourth championship win. In Brazil Hamilton crashed in Q1 and had to start the race from the pit lane but from there he drove an inspired race to climb to fourth place while Vettel got the jump on pole sitter, Bottas and went on to win from the Merc driver and team mate Raikkonen. Brazil also saw the farewell celebration for home favourite Felipe Massa who finished seventh in his Williams. Abu Dhabi was the final race of a 20 race season and was won by Valtteri Bottas ahead of Hamilton and Vettel. Massa had another good race to finish eight in his final GP and all eyes are now on the Williams garage to see who will replace him for 2018. An emotional return for Robert Kubica seems most likely but we will wait and see and there are also a few other seats to be filled at Sauber with Ferrari pulling the strings. Watch this space!
MotoGP The Moto GP season came down to the wire as Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso lined up at the start of the Valencia GP, each with a chance of becoming champion. Marquez had the advantage and only had to finish in the points while Dovi had to win and hope that the Spaniard didn’t score. The race was a scorcher and it all came down to the last few laps to decide the outcome. Marques lost the bike on a 200 kph left hander and produced the save of the season when he righted the bike using his elbow and knee to keep it upright while behind him both Lorenzo and Dovizioso crashed while on the absolute limit in their efforts to keep up. Marquez finished third and won the championship for Honda and the race was won by Dani Pedrosa on the other Honda ensuring a happy day all round for the Spanish fans at the Spanish circuit.
WRC Rally Wales GB was all about Malcolm Wilson and his M-Sport team from Cumbria. They took on the might of the factory teams from Citroen, Hyundai and Toyota and it was joy unconfined for the semi-private outfit as they won the rally, the driver’s championship and the manufacturer’s championship all on the same weekend. Elfyn Evans drove a splendid rally in his D Mack shod Fiesta and led from start to finish while Ogier and Tanak made it a 1-2-3 for Ford. Rumour has it that Ford are now ready to come on board and make it a full factory team and this may well determine whether Ogier will continue and try for a sixth championship or take early retirement from a sport which he has dominated for the last five years. Tanak is off to Toyota next year and talks between Ogier and Citroen came to nothing so as it stands Evans is the sole representative in the Ford/M-Sport camp next year. Again, watch this space.

With the championship decided Rally Australia was a timid affair on paper but it turned out to be a mighty event which went down to the very last stage with Neuville leading by 14 seconds from Latvala’s Toyota. The Finn crashed in his efforts to pass the Belgian’s Hyundai and so it was Neuville who took victory on the final round. Both Meeke and Mikkelsen led in the early stages but both encountered problems and allowed Tanak and Paddon to fill the final podium places.

This group gravitate mostly to Harley Davidson, having swallowed the whole 'Biker Lifestyle' guff! (most would need a new pair of leather chaps if they ever found themselves in the company of 'real' MC members! LOL!). But a great number of us are all too well aware of the dangers. As a youngster I personally attended the funeral of 21 fellow riders in the space of 12 months. I've since lost many more, seen friends lose limbs or the use of limbs and bear the scars of my very own 'experiences'! Yes sir, we bikers know we're on nodding terms with Mr G. Reaper! But to paraphrase the Bard..there's the rub! Aside from a need to 'belong', why do we ride? That need to 'belong' shouldn't be too quickly dismissed, the camaraderie of motorcycling myth and lore DOES exist. Barriers of age, gender, social/class standing, race colour, creed and religion all disappear when a group of Bikers meet...the idea of a Biker Nation may be a little overly Romantic but...

Why Do We Ride?
Well, 1st November was All Saints Day or Day of the Dead as the Spanish like to call it. Nothing to do with Zombies on a day trip to the sea side though so don't panic! LOL! It's a day to visit the resting place of friends and family no longer with us. It was this reflective mood that got me thinking...if life is so fleeting, why do we (bikers) risk cutting it even shorter? Calm down, calm down! I know 'bikes aren't dangerous' and 'guns don't kill people' etc I'm an ardent (almost fanatical!) fan of motorcycles, but there are some facts we simply can't ignore. For instance, did you know that statistically motorcycling is more dangerous than: hang gliding, climbing, boxing, base jumping, ski jumping, bungee jumping and even Heli skiing! that's when you jump out off a helicopter wearing skis onto a mountain and ski back down it. You JUMP OUT OF A HELICOPTER!!! Official figures tell us fatalities are 7 times higher than those for 4 wheeled vehicles. They also state you're 27 times more likely to be killed than car drivers! So let me see if I've got this right? High mortality rate, massive chance of losing a limb or becoming paralysed, more dangerous that leaping from a helicopter? You're even less likely to die if you tie weights to yourself and jump into shark infested waters!!? Yep, motorcycling is more dangerous than deep sea diving! Where do I sign up?! LOL! So why do it? Maybe we don't realise the dangers? True, some 'riders' will give up after a near miss, ie without even having an actual 'accident'. These mainly tend to be those who came to motorcycling later in life, either trying to emulate their heroes (Rossi, Lorenzo etc) or as an alternative to buying a red Porsche.
I've never had anyone stop to help me when broken down in a car (OK the AA man did! But he's paid and I had to call him! LOL!). but I've been stood having a rest/smoke/etc by my bike and bikers have stopped to check I'm OK so many times I can't count them! I've done the same myself on numerous occasions. Also, bikes are good for you...as long as you don't become a statistic! LOL! Seriously, an average male will burn 50 more calories than a car driver over the same distance/time. And drugs!! Calm down...Endorphins!! Yes, little boosts of 'feel good' rushing round your body...hmmmm...lovely. Talking of feel good, what about the environmental benefits? Eh? Eh? Less wear and tear on infrastructure, less pollutants over a shorter time (no traffic jams for us!)..see? Eco warriors, that's what we are! LOL! Then there's the Biggie...ZEN and the Art of motorcycling! Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of science involved in motorcycling, but it's really an Art form. John Travolta could explain all the moves/steps to me..but just as I'll never be a great dancer..some people will never be great riders. Meditation on the move. You and Machine..at one with the World. In control of your own Destiny. In an age when all aspects of our lives are increasingly governed by external forces, motorcycling represents FREEDOM. Freedom, Adventure and lets not forget..it's Cool. It was Cool in the 50's and it's still Cool now. I've yet to hear a wide eyed child say 'I want a Ford Fiesta when I grow up!' LOL!! Riding is Living. Living in the present, the NOW. Cos if you don't you're very likely to end up as one of those statistics! Yes we ride an inherently unstable machine ( a tank full of petrol above an extremely hot engine anyone?! LOL!) where our imminent demise is a permanent possibility. And a large dark figure carrying a scythe is a constant companion. As the saying goes..if you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room! Hahaha.. There is NOTHING to compare with the riding of a motorcycle, where even a trip to the shop for milk is a dangerous adventure you might not return from. But out on the open road....with all the sights, sounds, aromas and feelings (rain, cold, heat, flies/bugs in your face!) ...a genuine feeling of serenity floods my being. In a car the world passes by, the occupant cocooned in their own artificial 'bubble'. On my bike...I am IN the World travelling through it, a PART of it. Non-Bikers, you really don't know what you're missing. I Ride because I CAN. I will Ride until I'm unable.

The Legal Way To Scrap Your Car Having worked in the trade on the Costa Blanca for over ten years the staff at Bradley Breakers could tell us all a horror story or two about people who thought they had scrapped their ‘old banger’ only to find that the car was still registered many months later. I personally know of individuals who have faced large fines after the vehicle they thought they’d seen the back of was still driving around. I’m sure that many of you reading this article know of many similar instances. Unfortunately as long as your name remains on the document of ownership you are legally responsible for that vehicle. Here in Spain the system of scrapping a vehicle is far more complex than anything you are likely to face back in Ireland or the UK. You also have the added complication of the language barrier so it is imperative that, when considering disposing of a vehicle, you use a company in which you have complete trust. You will find one such company in Bradley Breakers who have recently joined forces with the experienced and extremely reputable Spanish company ‘Autos Desguaces Gomez’. They are experts in the field and they can make the whole process as simple and uncomplicated as you might wish. Simply make the call, they will make you a cash offer for your vehicle and if accepted they will collect on a tow truck from your home.
They will leave you with the necessary legal documentation advising that they have taken ownership of your car and then, following its scrapping, you will be issued with the official DGT Certificate (Baja). Do be aware that, if this is something that you are currently considering, you need to ensure that your vehicle is scrapped by 31 December to avoid any further SUMA bills. Bradley Breakers, who employ over 40 people, also have an impressive new scrapyard consisting of a 20.000 sqm site on which they house a 3.000 sqm warehouse in which they store thousands of used parts which they have removed from cars. All parts are recorded on a computer stock system and stacked on racking within the warehouse. You can even buy parts online. At any one time they also have over 2000 cars on site so they will always be able to find that elusive part from a wheelnut to a complete gearbox or an engine.
