The main talking point is its new 'Innovision Cockpit', which combines a 12-inch digital instrument display with an additional 15-inch touchscreen mounted on the dash. The Jaguar I-Pace is the first electric crossover to take on Tesla’s Model X, although the Audi e-tron is hot on its tail. The I-Pace’s designers say that without a conventional engine to accommodate, it’s roomier inside than its compact shape suggests. Jaguar claims an 80% charge takes 45 minutes. The range for the four-wheel-drive SUV is up to 310 miles.

CUTE CASTLE? Or Spain’s very own AREA 51?! Chinchilla, or Chinchilla de Monte Aragon to give it it´s full title, is situated to the South east of Albacete. It´s hilltop location means it dominates the plains of La Mancha and occupies an important strategic position. The castle was built in the 15th century on the orders of the Marquis of Villena; but was previously the site of Roman, Visigoth and Arabic fortresses. It´s an impressive structure with a 6 meter deep, (dry) defensive moat that was dug out of the solid rock! For three centuries it was used as a prison and was also barracks for French troops during the Napoleonic Wars. The town of Chinchilla itself has a charming atmosphere and many an hour could be spent exploring it´s lovely streets if the fancy took you. In the main square (Plaza Mayor) you´ll find the 15th Century Town Hall and many Grand Houses of historically important families from the 15th to the 18th centuries are scattered throughout the town. There are also the remains of an Arabic Public Baths. But the Santa Maria de Salvador church is especially interesting with styles ranging from Gothic to Baroque! A quick look on Google (other search engines are available lol!) will show there are guided tours of the town available if that´s what floats your boat? Restaurants and cafes to match all pockets abound, as do various options for an overnight stay if you wanted. All in all...a lovely, quaint town. Or IS IT? Approaching from the south as i was, the first hint came near the train station: "ZONA MILITAR! ENTRADA PROHIBIDO!"

So, if someone in Khaki tells you "move along" or "No photos!"...best do as they say! LOL!! And it´s probably best not to start any arguments with anyone in the town either...just in case?! LOL! Easily accessible via both the A31 and A30 Autovias, Mr Michelin reckons two and a half hours will see you there. But if it´s the "Journey" you´re after.... take the back roads via Fortuna to Jumilla then cut across country via Ontur, Petrola and Estacion de Chinchilla. How the new ITV changes affect Classics by David Hudson
Despite reports that there will be new equipment and paperless checking when the new laws start on 20th May this has already happened during the last 3 years in this area. The big change for classic and old vehicles is that the “favorable con defectos leves” will disappear. This gave the ITV station the liniacy when it was a borderline decission. For instance if the classic was looked after and the kilometres were low then it would tell the tester that this was a owner that was not reckless and cared for the vehicle. Being low kilometres meant that the vehicle only came out on sundays and fiestas when the traffic was reduced. Making a safer period of travel also the type of vehicle would be taken into account. A Porsche or MG would be driven faster than a 2CV or 600. This would alow the tester to make a decission in giving the classic another year on the roads. Now this has been taken away you need to fully understand why the ITV said with defects and put it right. Don't leave to the last minute especially if is joints, bearings or suspensio and rust as correct parts can take a time. If the vehicle fails a ITV test then you cannot drive it on the road and would have to have it transported by a Grua. You can now choose which ITV station to retest and you can have the ITV test upto one month in advance. The vehicle must be checked in the province that the registered owner is resident in. Any modification to the vehicle must be registered with Trafico and checked before the regular ITV is due. The modifications includes tow bar, tyres and wheels, suspension, seats and changing them after it has passed the ITV is illegal. One of the problems for classic cars is having drum brakes that give a suspect result because of the action compared to disc brakes that the testing machines are set up for. To get the best result make sure that the drum has not worn unevenly that means the shoes does not brake evenly. Get the drums scimmed at right angles. It only takes about 30 minutes to do. To help with the improved emission controls and if the classic has only travelled short distances add UKs Forte specialist injection cleaner to the petrol and drive approximately 50 kms to clean out the system. Change the engine oil, oil and air filters just before the test and replace old plugs and leads. If you wish to have it registered as an historic vehicle to have a lenient test the laws have changed. It now must be 30 years or over and the vehicle must be either the original or the principle components should be the original type of engine, brakes, steering, suspension or bodywork. You are not exempt from the vehicle tax.

THE MOTORSPORT MONTH by Richard O'Rourke 2017 F1 A crazy race in Baku, Azerbaijan in which Vettel led and should have won, Bottas led and should have won and in which Hamilton inherited the lead and took a lucky win ahead of Raikkonen and Perez. Highlight of the race was the battle between the two Red Bulls in which Ricciardo and Verstappen scrapped for lap after lap until the inevitable happened and they collided causing the retirement of both cars. The resultant safety car and another after Grosjean stuffed it in the wall were the catalysts in the race which gave Hamilton the championship lead. Monaco and the annual race around the streets of Monte Carlo was expected to favour Red Bull where their superior handling would be of benefit and their power deficit, compared to Mercedes and Ferrari, would be less of a disadvantage. Ricciardo was on pole with a record breaking lap while team mate, Verstappen started from last after he crashed in final practice. Daniel led from the start from Vettel and Hamilton but at one third distance reported losing power and from then to the end struggled on without the MGU-h, worth about 160bhp, and managed to keep ahead of the Ferrari and Mercedes. A fantastic drive from the Aussie and one which lifts him to third in the championship behind Hamilton and Vettel.
WRC Drama off the stages to begin with as Citroen took the unprecedented move of sacking Kris Meeke and Paul Nagle with barely one third of the season completed. There is no doubt that Meeke has, for a long time, been accident prone but much of this has been caused by pushing an uncompetitive car beyond it’s limit to keep pace with the other teams. On the other hand he has been, by far, their fastest driver and has won five WRC events for the French team while the other team drivers have a total of nil. He has received a lot of sympathy from the other WRC teams and the International Rally Press and it will be interesting in the weeks and months ahead to see if Meeke will be employed by another team (M-Sport?) or will the 38 year old’s career end here and now. Rally Argentina. Punctures and fog were the cause of many woes in Argentina but one man rose above the rest and put on a masterly performance to take a comfortable win. Ott Tanak, the Toyota driver made a mistake on day 1 but blitzed the field from there on and finished ahead of Neuville, Sordo and championship leader, Ogier.
He was not the only retirement as Latvala, Ogier, Mikkelsen and Paddon all fell by the wayside on the opening day. Meeke led briefly but then had a huge fifth gear accident which destroyed the car. Neuville took over the lead and he held on a head of Sordo and Evans to win and take the championship lead. MOTO GP Jerez was the venue for the first of three races in Spain and provided a home win for Marc Marquez on his Honda. Many of the favourites such as Lorenzo, Dovizioso, Pedrosa ans Crutchlow all crashed out and it was left to Johan Zarco and Andrea Ianonne to fill the remaining podium places. Le Mans, France was next on the calendar and once again a win for Marquez but not as easy this time as firstly Dovozioso and then Lorenzo led the way before crashing out on the slippery surface. Zarco also slid off handing the lead to Marquez (Honda) who stroked it home ahead of Petrucci (Ducati) and Rossi (Yamaha). Marquez now holds a comfortable lead in the championship and it is hard to see any of the others catching him.
Rally Portugal. Tanak was brought down to earth following his Argentina win as he was the first retirement in Portugal when he hit a small rock which punctured his oil cooler.

Money to Modify
The truth of the automotive industry has always been that if you have the money, people that are a lot more skilled than you are will modify your preferred ride in any way you see fit, just as long as physics didn’t interfere too much. This 1968 Jaguar E-Type is on the lighter side of those scales, but with a stretched body for extra space and a…unique trailer, it does deserve a bit of attention. Classic Motor Cars from Bridgnorth in the UK pimped this E-type by adding 4.5 inches (114mm) while the car was being restored after having been involved in a heavy frontal crash, as per its American owner’s request. The extra metal was added to the floor pan, for improved interior space and practicality – the feeling is enhanced by the 1.25-inch (32mm) taller roof, as well; the boot is also deeper and more spacious. The modifications don’t affect the car’s look too dramatically, and since all of the E-Type’s familiar lines are nicely blended in, the longer silhouette may even be more elegant than the regular one. Worth noting is the fact that this car is a Series I model, fitted with the later 4.2-liter engine (not the first 3.8), which is, in its stock form, 9 inches (228mm) shorter than the V12-powered Series III, a car whose design purity was seriously affected by the stretch – this ‘in-between’ version should be just right. The unusual trailer was built by joining two E-Type rear ends together, it looks cool and is attached to the car via a removable tow hook – will definitely turn twice as many heads with it hitched.
