The road essentially follows the gorge carved by the Rio Jucar over Millenia, with it´s beautiful turquoise waters often within a few feet of the you as you travel back in time. Numerous small homesteads, many carved into the rock of the cliffs that border the road to your left, line the route in places. I never saw any people, but I did hear a pig squeal...and I swear at one point the twang of Banjo strings whispered on the breeze!! Gulp!! Time to press on! LOL! Dueling Banjos So...from Chinchilla take exit 88 from the A-31 onto the CV-B-12 towards La Felipa. It´s a fairly non-descript road pretty unremarkable, apart from the fact that it skirts the western boundary of "Area 51" as mentioned in last month´s article. But it´s well surfaced and makes for a relaxing interlude prior to the curves to come. In La Felipa, stop off at Bar Sinsajo for coffee or something "iced" in summer. Back on the road, take the left turning onto the AB-2210 towards Valdeganga. Turn right at the T-junction, then carry on towards Valdeganga on the CM-3218. As you pass the 50KPH restriction signs on entry to the village, take your first left onto Calle Murcia. The sign is on the wall of the house on your left as you approach and is difficult to spot so go slow; because if you miss it it´s easy to get lost in the rabbit warren of streets! Follow the road all the way through the outskirts of the village, going straight on at any junctions; this will eventually see you leave the village once more on the CM-3218 The road begins to get a bit more interesting from here, nice flowing bends, good surface etc with the odd glimpse of the Rio Jucar for the first time in the journey. Keep your eyes peeled for a junction on the right signed Alcozarejos and Jorquera. It comes up just as the road bends 90 degrees to the left, so although a "right hand junction"; you actually go straight on.. This is the AB-206, a much narrower but still tarmaced road.It has far less traffic (although it´s hardly been "rush hour" up to now!) but you need to take care in places due to a more "patchy" surface and less "passing room" should you encounter other vehicles. Almost immediately you get the feeling you´re in a much more remote area and you´ll want to stop within the first half mile to take photos. Try to resist the urge, because if you stop to snap every stunning view you´ll never make it home! LOL!!

eriously, this is one extremely picturesque road and worth the trip north on it´s own. Eventually Jorquera appears to your left followed by a T-junction where we hang a right onto the AB-880, signed Casas De Juan Nuñez. A few hundred meters on , you could take the B-5 into Alcala De Jucar; but today we stay on the AB-880. Half a dozen little switchbacks later, you get the opportunity to stretch your legs and take some great fotos whilst safely off the road at the viewpoint. Do stop, as the views are impressive and the serene atmosphere heals the soul! Oh look! A Unicorn!Ahem!! Anyway... Suitably "stretched" and impressed, we follow the road for a handful of more bends climbing up out of the gorge, before we get to kick back again and have a rest from "bend swinging" levels of concentration. On arrival at Casas de Juan Nuñez, there´s the chance to refuel and refresh yourself in one of the hostelries if you fancy. From here we head east, having gone left at the last T-junction, on the CM-332 towards Ayora. f you´ve had enough by now, you can turn right onto the CM-3209 to Higueruela and home via the A-31. Another route, is to stay on the CM-332 all the way to Ayora, a stunningly quick series of sweeping curves with plenty of potential to collect speeding fines; and then on to Almansa. Our chosen route sees us take a right onto the CM-3201 signed Alpera (it´s just opposite the Repsol gas station on your left). This is great piece of Tarmac that soon deposits us in Alpera village, where we turn left as the road bends 90 degrees right, it´s signed N-330 Ayora. We follow this narrow but scenic road to the end then head right at the T-junction ...or alternatively..straight on to the A-31...both will eventually have us arrive at Almansa. From here we head home on the A-31....then again..we could head back via Yecla on the country roads....

Are we getting closer to the end of the Torre Traffic Jam? The end of traffic chaos on the N-332 coastal road as it passes Torrevieja has taken the next step of becoming reality as this week the Ministry of Development has confirmed the road widening project with the publication in the Official State Gazette of the draft plans. The company that will carry out the work is a consultancy specialised in transport projects, Consultrans SU, with a contracted offer of 492,000 euro, half of the initial tender price of 986,000 euro, tax included The execution period is 18 months, which takes us to December 2019. When the project is approved, it must pass the environmental impact assessment and, if it succeeds, the Ministry of Development must tender, if it has a budget, the award of the construction of the widening and duplication to a double-lane dual carriageway for
the eight kilometres which pass Torrevieja, with an estimated investment of around 40 million euro. Thus, the actual widening work could begin in the last stretch of 2020, assuming all goes to plan. The completion of the work will be a huge relief for the residents, businesses and visitors to the area, all of whom are tired of the matter seemingly becoming a political points scoring argument, rather than support for the resolution.

THE MOTORSPORT MONTH by Richard O'Rourke 2017 F1 Off track the biggest news, although not the most surprising, is that Red Bull Racing will switch from Renault power units to Honda at the beginning of the 2019 season. Honda have been powering the Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso with mixed results this season, albeit a big improvement over the disastrous three seasons they spent with McLaren.
WRC The World Rally Championship went to Sardinia for the Italian round of the championship and what a finish they gave us. Going into the final stage Ogier led by 0.8 sec from Neuville but the Belgian gave it everything (including nearly putting the car on it’s roof ) and emerged at the end with a win by 0.7sec.

It was great to be back in France after an absence of 10 years and the Paul Ricard track proved to be more exciting than predicted but they will have to do something about those awful stripes!

And Spanish delight in Barcelona with Lorenzo again on the top step ahead of Marquez and crowd favourite, Rossi. Lorenzo does seem to have got the Ducati handling to his liking and took two comfortable wins but is it too late for him to mount a championship challenge. He is a long way behind Marquez but there is a long way to go so you never know. Off track news is that Lorenzo, despite his run of success with Ducati, is off to Honda next year where he will join Marquez which means, of course, that Dani Pedrosa is out of work but with Suzuki, Aprilla and KTM joining the big three there should be an opening somewhere for the diminutive Spaniard.

Jaguar Enthusiasts Club (JEC) members drove in convoy from the north costa Blanca to meet up with other club members at Los Montesinos for coffee before proceeding on a run together.
