The car featured on the front page this month is the winner of the competition. Jules the owner from Belgium has been reading the Costa Car Trader online for years and he loves cars.

My yellow Opel GT from 1969 is also referred to as the BABY CORVETTE ! I found this Opel in a barn and I have put many hours into my Opel to get her to where she is now . While a pretty popular sporty car in its heyday, almost 40 years have gone by since the last ones were made in 1973 after a five-year production run. The Opel GT was a small two-seater from GM's famed German subsidiary. Underneath, it's an Opel Kadett, a small rear-drive car that was pretty mundane transportation even for 1960s Germany. But Opel designed a stunning body for it, one that left no concessions to practicality. A trunk lid? Who needs that? This is a car that looks sweet from every angle, probably because it has this miniMako Shark C3 Corvette-thing going on. In proper sports car fashion, it has a long hood and super-short rear deck. The snout is low and pointy, with headlamps that rotated and flipped up Thanks you Jules for sending us your lovely car .

JAGUARS VISIT THE PLANTATION The July club meeting of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club JEC saw members from areas of the costa Blanca south meet up at Torrellano where Dennis Wilson took the lead of a convoy of Jaguar cars to the next meeting point where members from the north were waiting for there arrival . Once re-grouped Michael Brook took the lead to the venue La Plantation Restaurant hotel a beautiful oasis in the mountains close to the pretty village of finestrat. Amongst the wide variety of jaguars of different ages including 2 E-types an XJS convertable,XJ’s XK’s and a F-pace which all lined up at the front of the main entrance of La Plantation where the large main double doors were open waiting for club members to arrive . A drink was served outside on the large veranda which was provided by the owner along with tapas so that members could have a little time to chill out before finely sitting down in the air conditioned dining room for lunch ,where a superb meal of four courses along with good wines ,water, and soft drinks was enjoyed by all ,and finished off with coffee’s and chit -chat across the tables as members mingled meeting friends old and new making it a wonderful memorable event ,and a few even took the opportunity of staying overnight to continue with the fun and to swim in the exotic flood- lit pool in the lush and tropical gardens. CLUB SUBARU ESPAÑA 2018 MEET by Mandy Stephenson Every 2 years, members of the Subaru Club of Spain ( Club Subaru España) hold their National Meet and share their passion for Subaru, visit natural & historic sites, experience culinary delights of various regions and, of course, delight in traveling in convoy, and this year was no exception. 130 Members travelled from all parts of the country to unite in Segovia, with some even traveling from Melilla and Portugal. The first outing on Saturday which was organized by the clubs president Jonas Prado, saw the convoy travel 17kms from Segovia to Real Sitio de San Idelfonso where they were greeted by the towns mayor D. José Luis Vázquez Fernández who had reserved parking exclusively for the more than 70 Subaru’s and presented the club organizers with a commemorative plaque. Members then sampled the local cuisine in the luxurious surroundings of El Parador de La Granja. After a scenic, rural route return to Segovia, club members where free to explore the city of Segovia, with its famous aqueduct, numerous castles & cathedral. Sunday, it was time to test out their driving skills on the karting track in La Carpetanía. This years event saw Subaru’s from all eras, from the Subaru WRX STi Version 1 which was of particular interest to Iñigo Trasmonte Garcia , Spain’s National Marketing Director for Subaru, to the newer Subaru XV. As always, the event was also used as a platform for raising funds for breast cancer awareness. Although the next annual meet will be in 2020, the club organizes smaller events throughout the year. With the summer hotter than ever we all appreciate our air-conditioned vehicles it comes at a high price these days and it’s because of The European Union regulatory changes which have been on the table for more than a decade and essentially have seen the introduction of a new air gas refrigerant known as R1234yf. It is claimed to be more environmentally-friendly with a lower global warming potential than the gas it replaces, which is known as R134a. It is this ‘old style’ gas that is impacted by the price increase. Mainly due to the phasing out of hydrofluorocarbons by the European Union – HFC refrigerant is the R134a air conditioning gas used in most cars and vans – there is a shortage. From 2018 to 2020 there will be a 37% decrease in availability, which is in turn forcing the price up for that particular refrigerant and therefore the cost of vehicle air conditioning services, including recharging. There will be further reductions from 2020 of another 50%, unless supply of R134a is relaxed by the European Union.
