MOTOR RELEASES
Formula 1 revealed their news cars for 2018, Team Haas was the first on the 14th of February. The most obvious visual change to the 2018 cars is the introduction of the Halo cockpit protection device, which is designed to deflect debris away from the driver’s head. It basically consists of a central pillar supporting a 'loop' around the driver's head. The overall minimum weight of cars has gone up by 6kg to 734kg to compensate, but it has left teams with less wriggle room to play with when it comes to performance ballast - and also put heavier drivers at a potential disadvantage. Last season’s cars featured extended, ‘shark-finned’ engine covers,combined with the ungainly looking 'T-wings’ to direct airflow to the rear wing. Both have been outlawed for 2018 on visual grounds. In a bid to make F1 power units even more reliable – and further reduce costs – this season each driver must make do with just three engines. compares with four engines last year despite the 2018 calendar having one extra race. The wider range of tyres, there will be seven, rather than the previous five, slick tyre compounds. All of which are a step softer than in 2017, making them the fastest tyres in Formula 1 history. This includes the new,pink-marked ‘hypersoft’ Pirellis at one end of the spectrum and the orange-marked ‘superhard' at the other.

The Parador hotel in Javea was the venue chosen to hold the gala dinner dance inauguration of the new Jaguar enthusiasts club of the costa Blanca,which was attended by mr Graham searle general manager of the head office in England . Parador hotels are luxury accommodation in castles palaces convents,monasteries fortresses and other historic buildings,but the group also has a few modern hotels built in traditional style ,in areas of outstanding beauty and Javea is one of these .The group is renound for the high standard of service given to guests while the prices are lower than expected especially to those taking advantage of a promotional rate ,so we were able to provide bed breakfast and gala dinner at a reasonable price with five star service at a four star hotel .As the JEC members started to arrive they were met by MIKE and DEN in the reception area where a welcome desk had been set up to make sure everyone was given first hand information about the event ,and all the Jaguar cars we’re parked up in a secure cordoned off private area of the hotels car park .Meanwhile Brenda Pike was organizing the seating plan for the function room making sure that everything was set out correctly for the evening gala dinner.At seven o. clock our guests and members were able to gather together in a private area for a champagne reception,before being seated allowing everyone to meet and greet friends old and new .Then with the help of Brenda’s well organized seating plan she was able to direct everyone to their tables .Dennis Wilson took to the stage to make the introductions asking the president of the new Spanish club to come forward to make himself known ,and Mr Michael Brook then made a short welcome speach ,but the main speaker of the night was Mr Graham Searle who had flown in from England for the event .Mr searle gave a very interesting talk about the history of the Jaguar enthusiasts club from its beginnings to what it has become to date ,with clubs world wide . Once the meal was served a very talented female jazz singer entertained everyone with a selection of well known classical songs which enabled our guests to eventually take to the dance floor .The night finally finished after a number of us returned to the public bar area for a night cap where we were able to discuss our very memorable inauguration event that turned out a huge success. Infamy! Infamy! NO cyclists were hurt in the making of this article! Do you remember those old Vaudeville style comedians? They´d start their act by saying something like.."A funny thing happened to me on the way to the theatre tonight..." you know the ones I mean? Well a funny thing happened to me the other day...I shall explain. As I was driving along (yes I also take to 4 wheels sometimes!) my car was almost struck by a bicycle, my reaction to which was to stop! That was when the owner (well, I say owner, for all I know he could’ve stolen it!) started to shout verbal abuse at me. Now, it was dark but not cold, so I had my window down as Badly Wiggon was only about a foot away (the length of his front wheel!) I answered: "What seems to be the problem young man?" "You should watch where you´re f&%$ing going you f%&$$ing Tw/&!!" he shouted at me. I must say I’m in agreement with him, I should´ve been watching where I was going. In fact I WAS watching where I was going! Perhaps that’s why I didn´t see the Peddleister suddenly swerve off the pavement on the far side of the carriageway until he almost collided with me? Maybe the fact fact he was dressed head to foot in black, on an unlit road also made it difficult to spot him? Perhaps if his two wheeled VEHICLE (for thats what it is in Spanish Law!) had sported some kind of illumination (ie LIGHTS! ) I might’v seen him sooner? Or if he’d had a bell (also a legal requirement!) he could’ve gained my attention via it’s vigorous use?! But no. No lights, no bell..no chance! I enquired if the red faced angry bicyclerist had thought of any of this, to which he responded: "Yeah, well err..it’s YOUR fault you F%&ing ba%$%! You should be more careful! I’m on a F&%%ing pedestrian crossing you f%&%ing moron!" At this point I exited the car, escorted "outraged of Bikedom" to the pavement and explained that pedestrians are recognised by the total LACK of a bicycle attached to their backside! I added that I hoped he managed to remove his from his backside soon and bid him good evening! LOL! Calm down! That last bit was just for "dramatic effect"! LOL! But the incident DID get me thinking though (never a good idea eh!?) LOL!
The parent who pushes the pram into the road before they can even see around the parked vehicles People stepping out into the road (even at a crossing) without warning when you´re only two feet away from them Motorcyclists who fail to give up "position" in the face of oncoming traffic..."It´s my lane!" Yeah, tell it to the Doctors matey! All groups have them, even us usually "perfect" bikers! Lol!! Well, it turns out there´s a science behind this phenomenon! Oh yes. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I´ll begin, hahahaha... L.O.C. (Locus Of Control) means "Where you feel the control of your life is"! Now, before you all say "It´s the wife!", that´s not an option. LOL! In fact, there are only two options: Internal and external! Are you in control of your own destiny? Or are you constantly at the mercy of events "beyond your control"!? If you have an external LOC, then everything is always someone/something else´s fault (not yours). So clearly everyone else should be making sure you don´t get hurt etc.?! What happened to being responsible for our own actions?! Is it the "Where there´s blame there´s a claim" culture? "If someone had said the exhaust was hot I would never have kissed it!" cried the complete nitwit! Studies have shown that people with an internal LOC are happier, more productive, and cope better when life subscribes against our best endeavours (ie When shit happens! Lol!). So, next time you take to the highway (be it on 2, 3, 4 wheels or even on foot!) take control of your own destiny. Don´t place your safety in the hands of people you have never met! Remember, not ALL the lunatics are in the asylums! So be alert! Your country needs lerts! Stay safe, El Guiri
Why is it that some people feel that OTHERS are responsible for THEIR safety? In order that the roads don´t grind to a complete, grid-locked halt we all have to put a certain amount of faith in other road users; I accept that. I mean, we whizz past each other in opposite directions at speed with only painted lines separating us! But some folks take this to an extreme. You know the ones, for example:

WRC Sweden As we wait for the opening rounds of the F1 and Moto GP championship later this month in Australia and Qatar all eyes were on the second round of the World Rally Championship on the snow and ice covered roads of Sweden. Seb Ogier was first on the road and suffered the most from having to clear the snow while those further down the field held an early advantage. It wasn’t long before Thierry Neuville established a commanding lead and for a while he led a Hyundai 1-2-3 ahead of Mikkelsen and Paddon. Nearly all the drivers had incidents of varying degrees with Meeke and Evans suffering most. Meeke stuck it in a snowbank and filled the radiator with snow and the resulting lack of breathing caused the turbo to blow while Evans caught a hidden rock and picked up a puncture which put him well down the field. Ogier was having a horrid time and was doing well to stay in the top ten and even in the early stages was having to settle for damage limitation to keep his championship leading position intact. The Citroen C3 seems to be much improved over last year’s car and both Craig Breen and Mads Ostberg were setting quick times, the Irishman in particular taking a few stage wins and eventually climbing to second place at the end of the Saturday stages. In the meantime the Toyotas, which won here last year, were not doing quite so well and while the stage times from Latvala, Tanak and Lappi were on the pace, a series of minor accidents kept them behind the leaders. On the final day Neuville kept a sensible pace to finish in first and Breen did likewise to take his best ever WRC result and finish second ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen’s Hyundai. Lappi put in a storming finish and knocked Paddon out of fourth on the final stage and it was here also that Ogier and M-Sport Ford pulled a master stroke and took time penalties in order to give the Frenchman a later stage start and allow him better road conditions and he duly took second fastest on the Power Stage and netted four championship points along with the one for finishing in tenth place.

Despite this, Neuville now leads the championship as we head for the altitude, heat and dusty roads in Mexico. All eyes are now on Citroen as they have committed to giving ex champion, Sebastian Loeb, three WRC starts at the expense of Breen who sits out Mexico and Corsica, the next two rounds, and Spain later in the year. This decision was made by Yves Matton prior to his departure to greater things within the FIA and the current management seem helpless to turn things round.
Red Bull have a new livery on their test car but it remains to be seen if it will be carried through to the race car. Mercedes will continue where they left off and with no changes in personnel, sponsors or livery you have to say that they start as favourites to take yet another title. Ferrari will try to match them for pace and it remains to be seen whether Renault can come up with the horses and the reliability to give themselves, Red Bull and McLaren a fighting chance.
All the other teams have two nailed down drivers and, when appropriate, they can employ a third driver to suit the particular rally. It is typical of the French outfit that they shoot themselves in the foot and play musical chairs within the team and effectively rule themselves out of contention for any kind of a decent championship result. F1 PREVIEW In F1 it is getting near pre-season testing time in Barcelona and the time when we get a glimpse of the 2018 spec cars and their potential for the forthcoming races. Ferrari are rumoured to have a darker red livery now that the Santander red has gone with the sponsorship. McLaren will have an all orange paint job which harks back to the Bruce McLaren days and prior to the Marlboro red and white and the Sauber looks fantastic in the Alfa Romeo colours. Let’s hope it goes as well as it looks.

NEW ITV It wasnt that long ago (edition122 January) that we covered ITV’s become more strict well it seems that the government cant make their minds up and now the ITV will be more flexible. The Technical Inspection of Vehicles (ITV) is a compulsory procedure for all cars over four years old, there will be some new aspects of current regulations to comply with European legislation. All ITV station will be equipped with diagnostic reading tools (OBC) for the first time that connect with the on-board computers of the vehicles. Until now a failed inspection was mandatory to present for a second inspection at the same station with a maximum period of a month. Although the period of time is maintained you can repeat the inspection at a station of your own choice. ITV can now be passed in advance without the renewal date being affected, so if yours expires say on July 15, 2018 and you pass your car on June 15, 2018 the date of the next revision will be maintained on July 15, 2019. The ITV of cars imported from the EU will be valid, meaning importing a vehicle from any other member of state of the EU and registering it in Spain the owner is not obliged to pass the ITV in Spain since the inspections carried out aboard are the same. Finally no change in the price of the ITV, prices depend on each Autonomous Community and inspection centre.
