The Ford Fiesta Vignale has been described by the US motoring giant as the most technologically advanced small car on sale in Europe. With its release date on 6th of September quickly approaching, here's what you can look forward to. The Ford Fiesta Vignale also features driver assistance technologies that hinge on two cameras, three radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Inside are lots of little touches that Ford have added to improve a driver or passenger’s experience of the car the Vignale’s luxurious death seats are designed to resist coffee spills and any dye rubbing of from a pair new jeans.

It will have both a three and five-door version. This is the first time the Fiesta has received the upmarket Vignale treatment from Ford. Besides a redesigned exterior, on the interior there is quilted leather seats, a premium audio system and soft-touch fabrics. On the outside, there’s splashes of chrome and bespoke 17 (or optional 18) inch wheels.

SOLVING THE MYSTERY OF ROUNDABOUTS The infamous roundabout! The local n332 site posted a guide line to help us understand the sometimes considered daunting, confusing, frustrating and dangerous ROUNDABOUT. Here's the 3 basic rules to follow; Firstly, in Spain, we drive on the right. In fact, we should drive as far to the right as possible, subject to any factors which may prevent this. This rule applies irrespective of how many lanes there are on a road, the right hand lane is considered our normal driving lane. Secondly, although they are classed as a special intersection, roundabouts are treated just like any other road. Albeit a one way street, but a normal road none the less, irrespective of the number of lanes, a roundabout is nothing more than a normal, curved road, with junctions. The third principle we must be aware of is that, under normal circumstances, we should always exit the roundabout from the right hand lane, the outer lane, unless signs or signals tell us otherwise.

The Buzz, Electric VW Microbus Volkswagen made it official. It's bringing back one of America's most beloved vehicles, the microbus, this time as a fully electric van that will carry both people and cargo. The Buzz will be semi-autonomous to start too, capable of level 3 self-driving. That means the car will be able to handle some of the driving responsibilities, although a human driver is still required. Volkswagen is aiming to introduce a completely self-driving system, dubbed I.D. Pilot, by 2025, however, so future models might be be able to cruise without anyone at the wheel.

Audi has partnered up with Hanergy, to develop a thin solar film of cells into a panoramic glass roof, but the long-term goal is to have the entire roof covered in the cells. The cells will be able to attract enough sunlight to power the electric power system of the car, and ultimately extend its driving range. The first prototype is to be built by the end of 2017.

Then there's Europe's largest car show of 2017 The Frankfurt motor show. The queue of new cars have been building up all summer and here's some of the world debuts and launches from Germany.

The UK has a strong entry list into this year's Frankfurt show such as the two long-awaited Jaguar models, the E-Pace SUV and potentially a production version of the I-Pace, Jag's first electric car. The latter is expected to go on sale in 2018.

The Hyundai i30N is the first real attempt at a hot hatch from the Korean brand, and with 271bhp and rather fetching exterior design. Hyundai's other major launch is their small SUV, the Kona.

One of the most interesting new crossovers is the Arona from Seat, The Spanish brand had a lucky escape from most of the Dieselgate fallout. If the Arona is as good as the new Ibiza on which it's based, it should be good.

Unusual EMW car spotted by Bruce Rowbotham

I was on the dockside at Svenborg in Denmark last summer watching a fleet of Tall Ships tying up when I thought I spotted an old British Classic, the Bristol 401, then as I got closer I changed my mind and decided it was a BMW. - However a closer inspection revealed the car to be a ENW and after a bit of research I discovered a fascinating story. As part of war reparations, Bristol had purchased the rights to plans from the BMW plant in Munich, Germany together with obtaining their Chief Engineer Fritz Fiedler. Hence the Bristol and BMW saloons produced in that era shared much of their DNA. Meanwhile a second BMW plant at Eisenach in East Germany was now situated in the Soviet Occupational Zone. They too were producing an almost identical car also wearing the BMW badge, mainly for export to Denmark, Holland and Switzerland and by 1952 had produced about 15000 cars before giving in to protests from the Munich factory over use of the brand name. A decision was made to change the name of the cars produced in Eisenach to EMW and the curves on the letter B on the engine castings were filed down to make the name EMW. EMW finally closed their factory in 1955. I never managed to trace the owner of the car but did manage to get a couple of photos and a close up of the badge.Maybe one of CCT's Scandinavian readers can cast some light on the car, I think the registration is from Malmo in Sweden?

This month, we dedicate the Phoenix Car Club page to Shaun Sutton. In memory of Shaun, here are some kind words by Richard O’Rourke: SHAUN SUTTON. It is with great sadness that the members of the Phoenix Car Club learned of the sudden passing of Shaun Sutton just a few weeks ago. Shaun was a founder member of the club and it was he who first suggested the club name and this is fondly remembered by a Phoenix plaque which hangs in the Hotel La Torre in Los Montesinos, the venue for the club’s monthly Ace Café meeting. Shaun was for many years a stalwart of the club’s Council of Members and looked after the merchandising as well as acting as unofficial “chauffeur” to Gill Collins, the long serving Club Treasurer. Shaun’s interest in and knowledge of classic cars was legendary and his orange MGB was a familiar sight at club events. Much as he was fond of the MG, his ambition was always to own an Alvis and two years ago his dream came true and he proudly arrived in Los Montesinos in a beautifully restored, two tone blue, Drophead Coupé, affectionately known as The Duchess. Before retiring to Spain, Shaun was a professional soldier and served with the REME and his late wife was German. He spoke fluent German and was always willing to help out with enquiries from German enthusiasts. His sharp wit, military efficiency and naturally friendly nature will be missed by all who knew him. THE MOTORSPORT MONTH by Richard O'Rourke 2017 Formula One The FI circus travelled to Hungary before the summer break and a funny old race it was. Pre race news was that Paul Di Resta would replace the unwell Felipe Massa at Williams and that Sauber would use Ferrari engines next year and not the previously announced Honda power units. Since nobody else is interested in using Honda power it means that McLaren have to stick it out with the Japanese engine supplier for at least another year. Long term, I wonder if Williams might take a punt and renew the once highly successful partnership with Honda? In the race the Red Bulls collided on the first lap which sidelined Ricciardo and Vettel led despite a steering wheel which was pointing to the left when the car was going straight ahead. The German controlled the race pace at the front and was supported by his rear gunner, Raikkonen, in second place. Bottas, in third, allowed Hamilton to pass in an effort to catch the Ferraris but this didn’t work out and Hamilton sportingly gave the place back on the last lap despite the close attention of Verstappen who was fifth ahead of Alonso in the McLaren which flattered to deceive on a track which suited the characteristics of the car. Slow, but good on the twisty bits.

MotoGP The Czech GP took place in Brno on a wet but drying track and championship leader, Marc Marquez, took a calculated risk and stopped early to change to a dry tyre shod bike and disappeared into the distance leaving his rivals to scrap for the minor placings. Pedrosa, Vinales, Rossi et al stopped three or four laps later than Marquez and that was the order they finished in leaving Marquez with an extended championship lead of 14 points over Vinales. Austria and the Red Bull Ring was next and we witnessed the best race of the season and, possibly, one of the best ever when Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) and Marc Marquez (Honda) slugged it out over the closing laps, exchanging the lead many times and with never more than a couple of bike lengths between them. It came down to the last lap and, indeed, the last corner when Marc went a little wide and Dovi ducked underneath him just as they crossed the line. Phew! Pedrosa, Lorenzo, Zarco, Vinales and Rossi followed but it was all about the two gladiators up front and now Marquez leads the championship by 16 points from Dovizioso with three rounds remaining.

WRC Finland was as mad as ever, the cars flying over the jumps at ridiculous speeds and it was no surprise that Toyota led the way seeing as their workshop is 12 km from the town of Jyvaskala where the rally is based. Tommi Makkinen’s team had tested extensively prior to the event and this was obvious when, first Esapeka Lappi and then Jari Matti Latvala led and at one stage it was a Yaris 1-2-3 with Juho Hanninen getting in on the act. Latvala retired with electrical problems but Lappi, on only his fourth ever WRC event, held on to take victory ahead of a brilliant Elfyn Evans (Ford) and Hanninen inthird. Craig Breen was in his usual fifth place ahead of Thierry Neuville who now leads the championship, tied with Seb Ogier who crashed out on day one. Formula E The 2016–17 FIA Formula E season was the third season of the FIA Formula E championship. It started in October 2016 in Hong Kong and ended in July 2017 in Montreal. Lucas di Grassi won the championship in the last race of the season, 24 points ahead of Sébastien Buemi and 54 points ahead of third-placed rookie driver Felix Rosenqvist. as a Hydroelectric installation in 1944 during the Franco era. The Embalse is Spain´s largest reservoir sitting between the Segura and Cazorla Sierras in the midst of Spain´s vast Cazorla Nature Reserve. The area was declared a "Bioshere" by UNESCO in 1983 and gained full Park status in 1986.

At 209,920 hectares, it is a massive protected area, reportedly the second biggest in Europe! No part of the Park is below 600 meters, and it´s highest peak (Pico Empanada) is 2,107 meters! Home to Oak, Maple, Yew and many others, grassy mountainsides abound, cascading with wild flowers that sparkle like glitter; and the wildlife is just as diverse. For me at least, the headline act is the 185 species of birds! In addition to the usual tits, robins, swallows, black birds etc...The area is home to innumerable raptors. Calm down, we´re not talking Jurassic Park..Birds of Prey. Kestrels, Kites, Goshawks, Peregrine Falcons (these beauties have been "clocked " at 320 KPH!!!)...Wait, it gets better...Bonelli, Booted and Golden Eagles! There´s more...Egyptian and Griffon Vultures too. But the most impressive? The Lammergeir (German for "Lamb Vulture") also known as the Bearded Vulture. Standing over 4 foot tall, weighing n excess of 150 pounds, this bird can live upto 45 years and has a wingspan of over 9 (that´s NINE!) feet!! Just to the west of Embalse de Cazorla is a far smaller reservoir, Embalse de Aguascebas. Built in 1969, it´s well worth making it part of your itinerary (it can be found on the JN-7155) as the views are stunning. Without doubt though, the highlight of our latest visit was "Charco de Aceite" (or "Oily Puddle" in English!). Tradition has it that it was so named after a donkey loaded with oilskins fell into the waters whilst attempting to ford the river.

Ride 41: Rio Guadalquivir The Rio Guadalquivir takes it´s name from the original Arabic "Wadi Al-Kabir" , meaning Great River. Whilst it may not be the longest river in Spain, it is the second longest and furthest navigable river in Spain! Indeed, it remains navigable as far as Seville to this day. At 657 kilometers it is Andalucia´s most fertile area passing from east to west through Cordoba and Seville, to disgorge itself into the Gulf of Cadiz on the Atlantic coast near the village of Bonanza. But this mighty waterway is born far to the east, in Quesada!No!! Not THAT Quesada. This one sits to the south of the Embalse de Tranco in Cazorla Nature Park, Jaen. The river was dammed ( as in a Dam was built, not cursed by Gypsys! LOL) in 1929 and began service

Fact or Fiction, it´s certainly a misleading title for such a spectacularly beautiful location! "Paradise Pool" would be much more befitting! The best part is, it can be easily accessed from the A-6202, has a parking area and there´s even a small kiosk to buy cold drinks etc to enjoy sat at one of the many benches. Even in the 40´ heat we experienced, the river runs cold and clear. Whether you plan to do day long hikes, or don´t intend moving more than 20 meters from your vehicle, there is something for everyone in the Park. That is, as long as you don´t want a Disco or "Club"? LOL! So, don´t put this place on your bucket list! It´s only a 4 hour drive away, so go. Go on! Go now! you´ll love it. stay safe El Guiri.

The current method of testing fuel economy and emissions has had its day. The new legislation went into force on July 27, 2017 and provides for a gradual replacement of the NEDC with the new WLTP test procedure for measuring vehicle fuel cosumption and CO2 emissions.

The new test cycle applies for new models on the market from September 1st 2017 and will apply for all new vehicles sold in Europe from September 2018 on. Car dealers will have to display the test results of both WLTP and the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;oldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; NEDC together to enable consumers to compare cars.
