IGNOU launches new certificate programme in telecentre management

25 January 2011 MEDIA RELEASE IGNOU launches new certificate programme in telecentre management The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the Telecentre.org Foundation have entered into a unique collaboration to design and deliver a Certificate programme in Telecentre/ Village Knowledge Centre Management (CTVM) aiming to build the capacity of rural youths in the country to manage their telecentres effectively.

As per the government of India’s plans it aims to set up around 2,50,000 telecentres at every village panchayat in the country by 2012, there are also many NGOs and social enterprises that are setting up these to bring a change in rural villages in the country. The certificate programme is of six months duration and can be extended till two years.

The main objectives of this programme is to train the telecentres operators/ managers to manage their telecentres effectively, improve the skills and knowledge base of existing telecentre managers, create opportunities for the village community through the trained telecenter managers, help bring public and private sector services to villages and to help generate self-employed opportunities as village knowledge centre managers.

Those who have completed their 10+2 or are managers of telecentres run by organizations across the nation and the potential village level entrepreneurs are eligible to study this certificate course whose fee is Rs.4,000 only.

The job prospects which can be opened up with the completion of this programme are employment in common services centres of government of India, Village knowledge centres, e-Choupals, Drishtee, TARAhaat, etc. Application forms along with the prospectus can be obtained in person by paying Rs.200 in cash (if ordering by post, pay Rs.250 through a demand draft) from: The Director, Centre for Extension Education (CEE), room no. 1, first floor, DEC building, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068 (Telephone: 011-29534104).
