15 January 2011 MEDIA RELEASE Earn a certified IGNOU degree to be a chef The Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOUs) institute of Culinary Arts brings in fresh and highest parameters of excellence in Culinary Research, Development and Documentation in India by introducing new degrees and diploma courses. IGNOU will soon be coming up with three years degree course in Culinary Arts, Culinary Management and Catering Technology; one year diploma course in Food Production and Patisserie and another one year diploma course in Food Processing. There is a wide spectrum of courses waiting to be launched once the institute starts its functioning, which is expected soon. Additional courses will be added with each passing year. A few of those courses would focus on training the industry professionals towards a higher degree of professionalism, culinary skill and culinary management. Short term courses like Patisserie & Boulangerie, Indian Cuisine, Euro-American cuisine, Japanese cuisine, Pan-Asian cuisine, Mediterranean Cuisine, Gastronomy courses would be launched later which would mainly be profession linked. The university also plans to come up with eight new certificate courses which would last for a week, targeted mainly for the housewives. Another course to be launched later would be titled as Masters in Culinary Administration. This would be dovetailed with management courses and subjects in line with Masters of Business Administration. A doctorate course in culinary management will also be available to interested candidates involving strategic courses to take Indian cuisine to greater commercial levels of excellence and to present possibilities to candidates to merge their culinary skills, culinary management knowledge, culinary research and culinary economics. Students would soon also be able to start their own business by doing an entrepreneurial course in cuisine.
