David Pirrie holds a studio arts diploma from Capilano University, British Columbia, and obtained his B.F.A. from Concordia University, Quebec, in 1993. One of the constant variables in Pirrie’s work, has been a close analysis and detailed study of his subject. His new work continues a scientific inquiry of mountain topography in Western Canada. Like a form of cataloguing, the paintings and drawings are a survey on nature, technology, and the mapping of geological time.
Pirrie’s work has been included in exhibitions in Edmonton, Calgary, Montreal, Seattle and Vancouver. He was awarded the Canada Council Explorations Grant and a Project Grant from B.C. Cultural Services. Pirrie was the subject of a 2010 film Landscape and Time which documented his process over the course of a year. He has received extensive coverage in print media and exhibition catalogues as well as being featured in several interviews. His work is included in many esteemed private and public collections.
