“Rehearsing and performing six days a week; learning two instruments, preparing for world premieres every month, touring Europe before I hit my teens – I had such a privileged musical beginning at the new Cathedral in Coventry. I used to dream then of playing the big instrument called a symphony orchestra… and now I’m immensely fortunate to work with one of the very best, here in Western Australia.” Paul Daniel, Principal Conductor & Artistic Adviser. “I love that this job gives me the chance to travel and take music to all parts of Western Australia and play for children who may have never had the chance to hear live classical music. The look of wonder on their faces when they see and hear a double bass for the first time is very special.” Joan Wright, Associate Principal Double Bass. “Everywhere we turn, music is all around us. I remember picking up pots and pans when I was young and discovering ‘cymbals’ and the joy of making noise. Nothing has changed! I still get so much joy from playing at the back of the Orchestra (it’s the best seat in the house!) and getting swept up by the passion and the thrilling sound of the music.” Tim White, Principal Percussion. Pictured are Tim’s children Sally, age 5 and Luke, age 3, in their kitchen.

Private Giving Box office income, government funding and the generous commitment of our corporate supporters make significant contributions to WASO. However, these sources of income are simply not enough. Increasingly it is our Patrons that enable us to continue to achieve our vision… to touch souls and enrich lives through music.

Supporting Your Orchestra

A Message From Paul Daniel

Patrons become part of a special community. There are many opportunities to be involved in exclusive Patrons’ events, as well as all our Friends of WASO events. There are several ways to support your Orchestra:

Annual Giving Program Annual Giving is an important way of supporting WASO’s core activities. These donations form the backbone of philanthropy, enabling WASO to plan each year with confidence.

Endowment Fund for the Orchestra This is an investment in the Company’s future to ensure our children’s children share the joy of live, classical music in Western Australia. Major gifts and bequests are preserved in this fund.

Special programs We have a number of special programs that support specific areas, including commissions, instrument acquisition and young artist and education programs. Please talk to us if you have a specific project you would like to support. You are invited to join our community of Patrons. You can make a donation when you complete the booking form or by donating online at www.waso.com.au. All gifts are tax deductible. Every gift makes a difference.

To learn more, visit www.waso.com.au or please contact Alecia Benzie, Executive Manager, Private Giving on 08 9326 0020 or benziea@waso.com.au

Help ensure the music never stops… WASO is at the cultural heart of Western Australia, bringing its music to more and more lives every year. Music touches the soul of society in unique, unfathomable and life-changing ways, and West Australians have some of the world’s most wonderful musicians right in their midst. ‘Symphony’ or ‘sounding together’ used to refer to just those musicians. These days, it means all of us – we all have a role to play, to join the lives and souls of all of us together – musicians, audiences, young and old, inside and outside the concert hall. Our Private Giving Program is a simple but crucial way for our Patrons to play their part in this symphony, to bring great music and musicians to WA, to connect our work more closely and meaningfully to our community. Supporting this work is vital for the Orchestra’s growth and future projects.

Paul Daniel Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser
