Key Stage 2 caters for children up to the age of 11+ and is mainly based on the first floor of the main building. This means that there is continuity of education from 3 - 11 years.!

!
We also aim to bring our curriculum alive by taking the children on educational visits throughout the year to places such as Te national memorial Arboretum, West Midlands Safari Park, Wonderland and Jodrell Bank.!
!
The school also has extensive grounds and the children have access to three playground areas, as well as a Science garden and a Butterfly garden, designed in memory of a former pupil.!
!
Our Home School Link worker also runs a breakfast club each morning before school starts and as well as this, we also have a before / after school club, which is located in a purpose built classroom on the lower junior Playground.!
Pupils are eager to learn, responding positively and enthusiastically to the challenging tasks their teachers set them.! OFSTED 2008
We are a Healthy School, the children are encouraged to eat healthy options and take part in a wide range of sporting activities.
Teaching and Learning We aim to put the children at the centre of everything which we do. As a school, we place great emphasis on developing the skills of resourcefulness, resilience and co-operation with others.!
!
Teachers follow the National Curriculum and we place particular emphasis on developing reading, writing and maths skills. English and Maths lessons are taught in morning lessons, during which the children may be grouped to best suit their abilities. Work is tailored to match the needs of the learners.!
!
All classes are taught by qualified teachers and each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and overhead projector.! Every week, each class teacher spends half a day outside of their teaching duties to concentrate on lesson planning and evaluating their pupil’s learning. At these times, the class is still taught by a fully qualified class teacher. The children also benefit from specialist music, dance and swimming tuition.!

We also enjoy strong links with the local community and parish church. We pride ourselves on our caring approach towards the children and as such, there is regular contact with parents and carers to ensure that the welfare of all children is maintained. Information evenings for parents are held d regularly throughout the year and parers are also invited into school to join us for assemblies and other ‘special days’. As a healthy school, all pupils are encouraged to eat healthy options and to take part in many different sports. !

Academic Achievement The children of Sandford Hill consistently achieve results which are better than both the local and the national average.!

When the children start in our Early Years unit, parent discussions are held so that the partitioners can gather information as part of a baseline assessment Home visits are arranged for parents who would like them, prior to the children starting their induction in September.!
!
Throughout Key Stage 1, ongoing assessments are carried out and the children are made aware of their learning targets.!
!
Children in Year 1 are also assessed on their phonic knowledge when Phonics Screening assessments take place in June. These light-touch assessments help to further identify any children who may need extra help and these are then given additional support to improve their reading skills.!
!
Pupils in Year 2 take Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) in Reading, Writing and Mathematics, traditionally in the Summer Term. The children’s performance in these tests, together with ongoing assessments enable to teachers to judge children’s attainment.
