ARCH 603 I Hotel Studio Hotel Riviere, Paris, France
A semester long interdiscplinary studio that was challenging yet very rewarding. Teamed with a fellow architecture student and an interior design major which provided productive collaboration between different disciplines. The site is located two-blocks south of the Eifel Tower in Paris which gave us a high amount of exposure and careful consideration was given to site boundaries. The program for the studio was an upscale hotel that had set requirements in regards to the number of rooms, ballrooms, restaurants, spa and meeting rooms.

ARCH 690 I Basketball Practice Facility Ames, Iowa
In the future, Iowa State will be looking for a new basketball practice facility to host its men’s and women’s basketball teams. The site chosen is close to Hilton Coliseum and the new Sports Performance Center which allows for a more centralized athletic campus. The current facility is located 4.1 miles from Hilton and time is very precious in the world of college athletics. Overall, I worked with the Iowa State Athletic Department to better develop a program with fixed square footage for the new facility. Also, I went through several design iterations with Athletic Department throughout the semester to get a better understanding of the clientfirm relationship. The building is located in a flood plain which also played a role in the design of the building. The building is situated north to south allowing views of Hilton Coliseum from the interior and to minimize eastern and western sun. On the inside, the building is mirrored on the central axis for maximum efficiency for both the

ARCH 506 I Design in Detail Materiality & Representation, Ames, IA
This studio epmphasized materiality and our awareness of spaces we design. It allowed me to strengthen my model making and hand drawing skills while being free from the constraints of a computer program. On the following page is a cabin designed for ten campers for a rural summer camp in Iowa. The design was influenced by the environment and positioned for natural ventilation and daylighting possibilities. The interior has an indoor and outdoor gathering space and bunks that serve a dual purpose, functioning as both a desk and bed. The second project shown I was tasked with pairing past projects with a childhood memory. The Tree House was inspired by climbing trees to read as a kid. On the following page is a hand-drawn floor plan, elevation, and sections on plywood covered with gesso.

ARCH 507 I Digital Fabrication Fabricating Saylorville Lake, Des Moines, IA
This 7-week studio highly emphasized digital fabrication and allowed me to use a variety of different tools; including, a CNC Router, 3D Printer, Ceramic Potterbot, Grasshopper, and Laser Cutter. In our first project, 3D Printed solids were created to create a mold made out of rockite. The forms were developed by using Grasshopper scripts and then placed on the site to start thinking about the placement of the buildings on the site. Afterward, architecture was developed with drawings and a site model with emphasis on movement and the effect of temperature on the landscape. Grasshopper and the potterbot were used to create the brick facade and an architectural screen for the building that interacts with the environment.

ARCH 601 I Net-Zero Studio Renew, Chicago, IL
Built in 1918 to serve as the U.S Army Quartermaster Depot three large 570,000 SF buildings rose from the ground. Since 1979, however, the buildings have been vacant, in a state of disrepair and left behind from the surrounding neighborhood. Today, through the Reinventing Cities Competition we are proposing to develop one of the buildings, 1769 Pershing Rd. Our plan is to renew the building by meeting netzero requirements and using passive and active design strategies. To renew the connection between the community by having a multiuse building that will have a range of apartments, office spaces, healthy food options, a fitness center and a large increase in green space. We believe with these additions Pershing Road will once again become a destination that can serve the needs of the neighborhood.

ARCH 581 I Design Build The Open Book Nook, Winterset, IA
9 members of the M.ARCH program designed, manufactured and built this Design Build project. Located in Winterset, Iowa next door to the Public Library we were tasked with creating an outdoor reading area for community members. We designed the “Open Book Nook” two sets of benches made out of steel, concrete and tigerwood. In addition, we replaced the landscaping and added new sidewalks. I was tasked with creating text to be displayed on the four sides of the benches so they could also be informational. Each set of text related to an important part of Winterset’s history. To do this, I operated a CNC router to engrave the text into the tigerwood. This intricate process provided a unique and exciting look to the finsihed product.
