THE ASCENT OF
BIOMETRICS Biometrics has over the past years emerged in global markets as a stronger and more reliable user-driven technology.
The primary goal of this event – the first of its kind in several years in Denmark – is to bring focus on the major advances and milestones that have been overcome through the combined efforts and collaborations of biometric consortiums, government funded / private research and biometric thinks tanks.
MEET YOUR PEERS AND THE EXPERTS Delegates will be able to benchmark their biometric initiatives and efforts so far to state-ofthe-art solutions. Delegates will come from both private and public sector, making the event a unique opportunity to meet key people and organisations. For anyone that works professionally with identification and/or security, this is a must-attend event The conference will feature some of the biometrics industries leading security consultants, biometric developers and vendors from within the global biometrics community, among others you will hear presentations from: • Global Program Director Jean-Noël Georges, Frost & Sullivan (FR) • Managing Director Ingo Deutschmann, BehavioSec GMBH (GER) The event is supported by The Danish Trade Organization for Safety.

POSSIBILITIES AND CHALLENGES – STATUS ON BIOMETRICS IN 2015 09.10
Biometrics – TAKE OFF! Fingerprint technology has become one of the most wanted functionalities in mobile devices. Over the year, the major smartphone vendors are expected to launch devices with fingerprint sensors while payment systems supporting biometrics are on a sharp rise. Will the mobile industry´s biometric drive change the attitude towards the technology and become the long awaited breakthrough for biometric identification? KEYNOTE: Biometrics ready to impact mobile authentication Biometric is a mature technology and the number of published patents decreased since 2008. Nevertheless, it seems that this technology is not massively deployed due to lack of education or unrealistic perceived threats. Recently, major handsets manufacturers’ developments prove it is time for biometrics to become a mainstream technology enabler to facilitate authentication. Most new high-end mobile devices will be equipped with biometric features, as original equipment manufacturers want to be seen as innovative companies by promoting disruptive technologies. Let’s have a look to the global biometrics market and trends to better understand the recent evolutions. Then we will focus more specifically in the mobile market potential and the specific needs for financial services ICT Global Program Director Jean-Noël Georges, Frost & Sullivan

USABILITY AND SECURITY ISSUES 13.10
Usability, Accessibility and Acceptance: Understanding Biometrics from the user’s perspective Users want alternatives to the overwhelming workload of managing multiple, secure passwords. Many believe that biometrics will relieve them of this burden, while others point to the alternative costs associated with biometrics such as privacy erosion and fear of their biometric being irreplaceable if stolen. Users will expect a 100% acceptance rate of themselves and 0% false acceptance rate. They will not necessarily understand the nuances between failure to acquire and failure to authenticate. This talk will explore the multitude of factors which influence user acceptance of biometrics. Professor Lynne Coventry is the Director of PaCT Lab (Psychology and Communication Technology) at Northumbria University.

Face recognition technology – for anonymous people analytics and real-time video screening The growing demand from government, law enforcement and retail customers has led to the development of ground-breaking technology to detect, locate and track faces in video streams and then identify the person by real-time comparison to watch list databases. Today’s technology also allows for anonymous facial analysis to count individuals, generate demographical information, track people movement in time and space, detect frequent visitors and crowds, and much more. Ambiguous threats demand specific solutions In today’s world of increasing cyber-crime, unauthorized network access and resulting data breaches carry staggering costs. These ambiguous threats are more often not the result of stolen or socially engineered password breaches enabling “front door” access to the network. Biometrics alone are not the answer for the financial services and retail industries. Vice President & Chief Technology Officer Greg Cannon, Crossmatch

Handling the risk for loss of privacy: how can we do that – and why should we? The source from which we extract biometric data cannot be altered or deleted. The direct link from biometric data to an individual thus implies a serious risk for gradual loss of consumers’ and citizens’ privacy. Today, easy and affordable access to personal and sensitive data, to storage and computer power, advanced surveillance devices and to billions of data on social networks provide us with an unprecedented possibility for exploring and exploiting information about individuals. Turning this into a benefit for both states and citizens, businesses and consumers, is dependent on our ability to introduce measures aiming at mitigating privacy risks and preventing negative impacts on the fundamental right to privacy and data protection. Chairman Birgitte Kofod Olsen, Danish Council for Digital Security

Trust, Behavior and Privacy and the use of Advanced Technologies For many biometric identification is something of the future – but already today, it influence’s our daily life – from biometric doorlocks and mobility payment to the opening of our iPhones. The big questions are how we can enable a society where biometrics can co-exist with privacy without the risk of the surveillance society? What must one consider as a corporate entity or government agency before endeavouring on the journey of implementing biometric solutions and can biometrics and personal privacy exist in a balanced way? Biometrics – how to succeed and how to fail Biometrics is perhaps the most powerful and sensitive connection between the physical and digital space as it encompass the core essence of human sovereignty, control of Identity and thus also the data created and related to the process. Done right, biometrics can boost security tremendously. Done wrong, biometrics will completely undermine security. Your call. Managing Director Stephan Engberg, Open Business Innovation
