2015 Sport Bikes
The Light Blue 2006 onwards The Light Blue City bikes (Parkside and Chesterton) have become an established and successful product in Cambridge, and gradually these ordinary looking City bikes with their many features are also becoming more established outside of Cambridge itself. The wholesale division, known as Ison Distribution (ID), continued to grow its UK and International customer base, and it became clear that it needed dedicated facilities to work from. In 2009, ID moved to a new purpose built 18,000 sq ft capacity warehouse and HQ in Ely, Cambridgeshire, UK. Also in 2009, Lloyd Townsend and Keith Noronha (MD of Reynolds Technology in Birmingham) happened to meet in the departure lounge of an airport and began discussing the options of working together. Reynolds were releasing a remake of their timeless 531 heat treated double butted tubes to celebrate 90 years of making some of the World’s most revered bicycle tubing. Lloyd thought it would be interesting to develop a top level fixie (track) frame to emphasise the heritage that both companies share, in a retro format with a brazed lugged construction. Using the manufacturing connections that Ison had already established, The Light Blue Trinity frame was carefully developed with the painstaking attention to detail that such a product deserves. In late 2010, The Light Blue Trinity was finally ready, and it was accepted almost immediately as a success. Interest in the Trinity very quickly led to calls for a geared option. After more careful development, eventually in early 2012, The Light Blue Kings frame was finally made available. The Kings frame follows the Trinity’s retro styling (and lugged construction), but features Reynolds’ ultra modern premium heat treated 853 material tubing, along with half chrome plated stays and forks. It seems The Light Blue Kings receives compliments every time it is shown.
In February 2013, ID completed a warehouse extension, adding 75% in warehouse capacity, providing 31,500 sq ft of space. An addition to the extension was the installation of solar panels, part of our efforts to be environmentally responsible.
2015 will realise 120 years of The Light Blue brand, and partly inspired by the Tour de France visiting Cambridge in 2014, it seems only fitting to further enhance the offerings that The Light Blue brand can deliver to discerning sports cyclists. A major advancement will be Ison’s planned ability to offer complete bike options using some of the world’s finest components, developed using a semi-custom specification and build system. For mid. 2015, The Light Blue brand will add a new retro style frame and 3 new contemporary sports frames (all using Reynolds tubing): The Light Blue St. Johns A retro-modern sports frame. Sunday morning rides, sportives, commuting, light touring/Audax (or even single and fixie) – this frame can be built to do it all. Retro style, lugged sports frame made with modern Reynolds 720 tubing and mudguard eyelets and rack mounts. The St. Johns is every cyclist’s new, best old friend. The Light Blue Wolfson A clean style, lightweight, responsive tig welded Reynolds 853 set-up for the modern sportive rider.
