Mixed Use Tower - Academic Project
Project Location: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Fall - 2012 Status: Idea
Project Summary The project is located in the center of Santo Domingo, the Capital city of the Dominican Republic. It is a 50 story twisted tower with a residential and public space program.
Project Description The Black Tower is a revolutionary building in the Dominican Republic, it is the tallest building in the country at the moment. With fifty floors of luxury apartments to supply the demand that the city has been presenting in the present years. In this Design Studio, we are encouraged to create a multistory building in order to understand the construction process, the installations management and how to manage the circulation of a project of this type of projects in order to respond to real life situations.

Waste Management Power Plant
Project Location: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Summer - 2016 Status: Idea
Administrative Buildings
Project Summary This project aims to solve one of the oldest and most intense problematics in Dominican Republic’s Capital, which is electricity. This power plant manages the solid waste of a sector, it classifies it, and uses it to generate energy.
Project Strategy In this case the motto of the project is to build a hub to classify, manage and distribute the solid waste produced by the neighborhood around it. The project will service an area of more than 3,000 squared kilometers (about 740,000 acres) of the city in which it is located. The design is focused on the functional aspect of the facility, taking in count that it has to house a power plant fueled with solid waste. There are ten (10) buildings with a basic shape that follows the shape of the site in order to make the less site modifications possible. The project is focused on being sustainable itself and providing sustainable energy to its surroundings.

Hyper-loop Proposed Route
Project Summary The proposal for the hyper-loop is designed in the shortest track, ensuring the minimum time between travels, without interfering with airports or existing infrastructures. By placing the stations at the points where you should change direction, we optimize the travel time. In order to make sustainable buildings and optimize construction costs and timing, we propose the construction of the two paths in a close and parallel course.
Project Description In this project i worked with the team “BIM Unlimited with over 15 people around the world to build a Hyper-loop proposal in 42 hours to connect Dubai and Fujairah. i was part of the design team, and i was in charge of generating the roof structures to cover the thermal tunnels that are the center of the project. Each station is conceived as an Oasis. The station becomes a offering artifact and a place of interchange of: services, food, stores, goods, businesses, parking and security among others. The air circulates as a conveyor, extracting hot air through big open courtyards in the middle of the stations that work as chimneys.

North East Exterior Facade
Project Summary This was my first professional work for an independent developer and as an independent architect. The inquiry was to create a project that could raise the real-estate standards of the area. The project is located in a low middle class area, where there is was only one building similar to this. the project introduced itself to the neighborhood with lots of resistance from the community. Here is learned how to deal with community managers and municipal authorities with success.
Project Description In this project i started to get in contact with municipal authorities and community leaders for the first time. The project started as an economic proposal first. in order to convince the client that this was a good investment choice. After long meeting and lots of visits to the site. The Project finally started. The focus of the project was to sell fast and to build as fast as possible. The strategy was to design a product that has never seen before in the area at an affordable price. The building has 13,993 square feet and 10 residences. The design is based on building efficiency, space management and solid structure. The colors used are based on the prior property that occupied the site, in order to give a relation between the building and the site and representing an evolution of the prior building.

BMX Rider - Picture by Minister of Presidency
Project Summary This project is one of the most significants that i have had in my career, because when i was in high school with some other friends we built up a movement and protested for the construction of a skatepark in the capital of the Dominican Republic. It was really interesting been able, six years later, to be the architect and construction manager of this project which i fought for.
Project Description The Skatepark project is an incredibly interesting piece of architecture and a thriving engineering project. As the Design director and later Construction Supervisor, i was present in every step of the way. As every project in any office, the project was a proposal submitted to a committee for approval and latter we organized a competition for the construction. In terms of tectonics the park consist en two (2) mains areas; a street park and a Bowl. The bowl structure conceived for Skate, BMX and In-line Rollers. The park has in total 13,990 square feet of surface area and 6,885 cubic feet of reinforced concrete. It was all design to be a fluid path that can be traveled in both ways and by several athletes at the same time. This is the first park of its kind in the country and now it is the epicenter of the extreme sports of the city.
Saint Francis Church Professional Practice - Institutional

East Facade - Saint Francis Temple
Project Summary In this case, the demand was to conceive a space for worship, a catholic temple and a building to house the priest and his servants. This building was a new experience for me, because of the clients that i was working for, the church. The temple is intended to revive people relocated flood zone which where living in extreme poverty. In this project i was in charge of the design team and the later supervision and management of the construction process.
Project Description The temple project as an architectural object is conceived as two mains bodies with sequential sloping roof. The structure is calculated with metal columns, beams and trusses with an insulated roof. The interior space is then though as a monumental space with 40feet and 20feet ceilings, covered with acacia wood along with all the structure members. As the background for the presidency it was created a majestic collage of reclaimed wood from the demolition of the homes, where the people live in the prior river flood zone. This piece represents for this people, their origins, where they come from and what they can become. The temple is dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi, a humble friar that was canonized and associated with the patronage of animals and natural environment, also known for his humility, thats why wood is chosen as the predominant material in the temple.

Floor plan - Civic Plaza
Project Summary The Civic Plaza was a project of public space creation, where i was inquired to build a multipurpose site where people can gather, to contemplate the the landscape, to get some fresh air, or to get some Zumba classes. Right now the civic plaza is completed and it ended up been just that. Every day you have a new activity happening in the place, some time you can get into some gymnastics or yoga classes, other you can find out a birthday or some music classes with the kind from around.

The project started as a residual space, where it was first placed a project to build a civic center and a mixed used hall. After meetings with the directors and long design proposals, the committee decided to build an open public space due to a lack of resources and an administrative structure for the center to keep on working after we were gone.

Outdoor Theater

Aerial View - Outdoor Theater
Project Summary This theater was a public space project which consisted in creating another place for gathering and events in La Nueva Barquita Project. This theater has capacity for 1,500 seats and is a great example of sustainable site reuse.
Project Description My role in the outdoor theater project was to lead the design team in order to produce a space which responded to the context. The project is surrounded by green space and is in proximity to the most important river of the city. The theater is located in a site that was use as a mine were was extracted material used for the grading of the terrain of the project (La Nueva Barquita). The resultan space was then reoriented in order to save resources instead regenerating the space or treating the mine to avoid erosion, it was proposed to build the outdoor theater. As part of the design process we used the existing grading to generate the seating space. There are 760 meters of seating space separated by a 1 meter line of grass, which makes the teaser a fresh space during the afternoon. As part of the landscape project we reintegrated the endemic species of the site on the surroundings of the theater. We also oriented the theater to have as a background the river view, which will always be present in every event.

Summary I strongly believe that any though without expression does not exist. During the development of my education i started to be captivated by architecture at the age of 17 years old. My interest to architecture wasn’t immediate. I at first, and still do, loved industrial design. I was, and still am, impressed about how things where so carefully crafted from a sketch to the latter so complex process of building.
