A Dark Betrayal

[John 13:18-30]


John 13:18-20 18

I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But the Scripture will be fulfilled, 'He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’ 19 I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I 20 am he. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me."


John 13:21-22 21

After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, "Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me." 22 The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke.


John 13:23-25 23

One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was 24 reclining at table close to Jesus, so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom 25 he was speaking. So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus, said to him, "Lord, who is it?"


John 13:26-28 26

Jesus answered, "It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread when I have dipped it." So when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it 27 to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, "What you are 28 going to do, do quickly." Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him.


John 13:29-30 29

Some thought that, because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, "Buy what we need for the feast," or that he should give 30 something to the poor. So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night.


John 13:17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.


John 13:10-11 “And you are clean, but not every one of you.“ For he knew who was to betray him.


Luke 22:23 And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this.


Matthew 26:22 And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, "Is it I, Lord?"


Matthew 26:25 Judas, who would betray him, answered, "Is it I, Rabbi?" He said to him, "You have said so."

John 12:35-36 "The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light."


Luke 22:53-54 “This is your hour, and the power of darkness." Then they seized him and led him away.

Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly."


John 13:2 During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him,

Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. 4 He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Jesus to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him 6 money. So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.


John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Psalm 41:5,9 5

My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?" 9 Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.


John 13:30 30

So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night.


Matthew 26:24 “The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born."


1 Timothy 5:15 For some have already strayed after Satan.


1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.

John 6:64,70-71 64

Jesus knew from the beginning who those were who did not believe, and who it was who would betray him. 70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the Twelve? And yet one of you is a 71 devil." He spoke of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the Twelve, was going to betray him.

John 13:7 Jesus answered him, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand."

"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.�


1 Peter 5:8-9 Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith.
