ICC’s 13th Courtyard Music Series off and running By Thomas Hemman and Kalah Krogmann The highly anticipated 13th season of the Italian Community Center’s Courtyard Music Series has gotten off to a rousing start. While less than summer-like weather has brought several of the shows indoors to the Festa Ballroom, the attendance and enthusiasm appear on the upswing. Featuring a line-up of popular talent performing a different musical genre each night, Monday through Thursday, the series is

sponsored by the International Autos Group. “We’re grateful to the Ralph Mauro family and International Autos Group for their support of this exceptional series,” said Joe Campagna, Jr., who coordinates the programs on three of the four nights. “With their help, we are able to offer the series with neither a cover charge nor drink minimum.” Added Sal Quarino, the coordinator for the Wednesday night shows, “We invite everyone to come to enjoy the music in our courtyard

and, the next time you’re in the market for a new or used car, we encourage you to visit International Autos Group.” The Mauro family operates 11 auto dealerships in the Milwaukee and Chicagoland area. The Courtyard Music Series continues to attract large crowds for “Hot Jazz” on Monday nights and rock and roll on Thursday nights. Fans of blues have found the ICC the place to be on “Tuesday Bluesdays.” The programs on Wednesday nights are garnering renewed attention of fans of opera and clas-

‘Chef’ Henry Piano prepares Italian feast to benefit Alzheimer’s Association

Many know Henry Piano as a longtime, successful Milwaukee-based attorney and a past president and current director of the Italian Community Center. On June 11, he displayed to an audience of 25 that he is quite the Italian chef. In a benefit for the Alzheimer’s Association, Piano (with the assistance of the ICC’s culinary and banquet staffs and three volunteers) put together a six-course dinner. Among the items he prepared during the demonstration were veal saltimbocca, cheese ravioli with marinara sauce, bruschetta with tomato sauce, anti-pasto plate with caponata salad and an Italian salad. This cooking demonstration was one of the auction prizes in

an auction by the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin held earlier this year. The winning bidder was Jim Tarantino, owner of Capri Senior Communities. Here’s a group of the attendees with Chef Henry (in chef’s hat). To Piano’s left is award-winning U.S. Olympic speedskater Bonnie Blair. To Blair’s left is Tarantino. This marked the fifth year that Piano has offered his culinary expertise to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. The ICC volunteers who assisted Piano included Gina Manning, Rosemary DeRubertis and Joanne Czubek. (Times photo by Tom Hemman)
