NETWORKING RECEPTION @Sophiensaele, Berlin A networking reception organized by Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies 31. May 13:30-15:00h

The Government of Catalonia, through the Catalan Institute of Cultural Companies (ICEC), and its internationalization brand, Catalan Arts, is organizing a 48H Dance mission to Berlin-Potsdam for the first time. A pilot mission in which a delegation of dance professionals from Catalonia will visit six benchmark creative and residency spaces in and around the German capital and two international festivals, among other activities on an intense two-day schedule.

The main objective of the mission is to discover and connect German and Catalan dance from a contemporary and sustainable point of view. We want to improve, increase and strengthen relations between

Introduction

the two territories, providing a more sustainable form of relationship that generates a real and non-extractivist exchange of artistic knowledge, but based on cultural cooperation. Taking into account the two markets, the ways and methods of working and their values, we have designed a series of activities that, through networking and exchange, improve international relations between the two contexts bilaterally. In this first investment made from Catalonia, we also want to encourage interest in the Catalan scene from Germany, opening the way to future artistic and institutional relations to reactivate relations that, although very positive in the past, have declined in favour of other territories in recent years. In this respect, a series of networking activities are proposed to get to (re)know territories, artistic and

6

conceptual interests, creating non-vulnerable spaces where everyone has a place. We are therefore interested in potential relationships not only vertical between programmers and artists, but above all, those that are diverse and include institutions, diverse and emerging artists, producers, managers, curators, etc., taking into account the entire employment fabric of the dance sector.

In Germany, dance is organized as Stadttheater Szene and Freie Szene (independent scene). The latter is the majority and the focus of the mission. The Berlin Freie Szene, in particular, is highly organized, especially by the associations of artists and performing arts professionals who act as regulators, interlocutors and consultants with the associations.

7

An important point to understand when we talk about Freie Szene is that not only the artists are independent, but also the theatres and residency and creative spaces.

The main idea of the activities presented in the 48H mission is that the Catalan delegation of dance professionals can get to know the spaces, their curatorial lines and the main artistic interests of the area and that they can connect with people at these meetings who may prove interesting for their projects. That is why we propose a series of visits and networking activities that we have tried to adapt to the profiles of the participants.
