The Government of Catalonia, through the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) and its internationalisation brand, Catalan Arts, supports the internationalisation of Catalan cultural enterprises worldwide. Through a network of five offices (Barcelona, London, Berlin, Brussels, and Paris), Catalan Arts has partnered with Trapezi to collaborate for the first time with UP Festival, a professional circus event organised by UP – Circus & Performing Arts.
UP Festival is a performing arts festival held in Brussels, Belgium. The festival showcases a variety of performances from around the world, mostly in the circus discipline. The festival’s professional programme days are an opportunity for artists and programmers from different countries to network and learn from each other.
During the festival, UP will programme three Catalan circus companies (Rauxa Cia, Lali Ayguadé & Akira Yoshida and Palimsesta) and during the professional programme days (Wednesday 27 March 2024), three Catalan circus showcases (Cia Du’K’tO, Impulsos and Manel Rosés).
Furthermore, 14 Catalan circus structures will also be part of the mission and will be present during the days of the professional programme.
This Catalan Arts booklet at UP Festival gathers all the contact information for the Catalan structures and artists invited to the festival, with the hope that it will spark your interest in discovering and welcoming them into your structures.
If you wish to learn more, contact them directly or reach out to the Catalan Arts team present at UP Festival during the professionals programme. We would be delighted to see you!

Show available for touring: A story of wool
A fantastic tale starring a simple thread of wool that, blown on the wind, transports us to a world where fantasy reigns and the unexpected has yet to happen. Clown, Innovation, puppets that move through the wind, a live pianist and projections, are the ingredients of this piece that will make the guests’ imagination fly.

A disturbing character bordering on insanity looks for a principle of certainty in an increasingly distorted world; in his quest, new characters will emerge from disparate universes, forming a collective delirium of shared solitudes.
Circus, theatre, movement, music and visual poetry at the service of quasi-cinematographic playwriting that will unsettle us and disrupt the borders of what is possible through absurdity and drama.
Show available for touring: Akri
Ákri” is a Greek word that translates as “threshold” or “limit”. It forms the first part of the compound word “ακροβασία” (acrobat). This can be translated as “walking on the edge” or “walking on the threshold”. Ákri is a circus solo by one acrobat and a ladder that explores the concept of “threshold”. The ladder, which is both a circus apparatus and a set design, represents a passage between two spaces while symbolising a profession and a way of life.

The Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture (PICE)1 is offered by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) with the aim of enhancing Spanish culture’s presence abroad, with AC/E acting as facilitator. The programme gives priority to the proposals that are least consolidated in the creative sector, most in need of boosting their presence abroad, and characterised by reflecting more closely on the contemporaneity, creativity and plurality of Spanish culture today. The line of support called “PICE Mobility”2 helps foreign cultural organisations include Spanish artists and professionals in their projects and activities by providing financial incentives. Only foreign institutions can propose candidates.
