WELCOME TO THE
ORIGINAL ICEHOTEL EVERY YEAR Torne River provides us with enough ice to build a new ICEHOTEL in the small village of Jukkasjärvi in the north of Sweden. The ice of the river transforms to handmade design and architecture at ICEHOTEL, an art project and the world’s first, and largest hotel built of snow and ice. Since 2016, right next to the winter open hotel of ice, you’ll find the year-round open part of ICEHOTEL, the permanent structured ICEHOTEL 365. The solar panels covering the roof contributes to keep it cool during summer and while open 365 days a year – it enables the possibility to sleep on ice no matter the outdoor temperature or season.

STAYING AT ICEHOTEL You can choose to stay in rooms made of ice and snow all year round or in our warm accommodations - our hotel rooms and chalets. We can highly recommend the experience of sleeping one night amongst ephemeral art in sub-zero degrees and then nestle under the duvets a little longer in our warm hotel rooms for the rest of your stay.

SEASONAL ICEHOTEL EVERY WINTER A new seasonal ICEHOTEL sees the light of day. Filled with splendid, unique art – handcarved by artists from all over the world who gathers in Jukkasjärvi for a couple of intense and creative weeks in December. Ephemeral art that is about to be experienced by around 70 000 persons before it once again melts down in spring. It is also inside the seasonal hotel you’ll find the Ceremony Hall, in which about 80 loving couples says I do each year.

ICEHOTEL 365 THE SUN THAT melts the seasonal hotel, is also essential in keeping the permanent part of ICEHOTEL at its constant –5 degreees as the sunrays are harnessed by the solar panels on the roof and transformed into cooling energy. The 2 100 square meters inside is filled with sparkling ice art in its twenty Artand Luxury Suites, some even with a luxurious private bathroom in warm room temperatures, its Ice Gallery and the world famous ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL.

THE POLAR CIRCLE ONE YEAR ABOVE the Arctic Circle is quite an adventure where no month is the same. Lady Aurora loves to stop by to show off all her beautiful colours in a vivid dance in the sky, so does the magical light during the period of polar night called Kaamos that casts a blue and pastel looking light at the surroundings during the few hours of indirect daylight. During summer the midnight sun keeps us company as Jukkasjärvi experiences constant daylight for a period of 100 days every summer, and a direct midnight sun for 45 of them. We offer a wide variety of activities, always on nature’s terms – all throughout the year.
JUKKASJÄRVI The name Jukkasjärvi derives from a Sami word, meaning meeting place. The village is a historical trading site where people from far and near have met since ancient times. Today, people meet at ICEHOTEL, sharing experiences, encountering nature and culture, and enjoying the ice and art all year round.
HOW TO GET HERE ICEHOTEL is situated 200 km above the Arctic Circle, but only one hour and thirty minutes by plane from Stockholm. The closest airport is Kiruna, which has daily connections to/from Stockholm. From Kiruna Airport you can go by car, taxi or you can book the transfer through us perhaps by our dog sleds?
ARCTIC WILDERNESS Hike through Europe’s oldest primeval forest. From sub-alpine forests to the alpine tundra; experience the magnificent Arctic wilderness up close.
WINTER The first snow usually sets in October and the river starts to freeze. In December the landscape is covered in thick snow and Kaamos light appear, the temperature drops and the seasonal hotel opens. 6
SPRING By the end of March, the days are getting longer and the weather gets milder. It is a perfect period for ice fishing and cross-country skiing. The winter suites are slowly starting to melt back into Torne River.

Flavors of nature like lingonberries, cloudberries and fir are combined with reindeer, moose and Arctic char. ICEHOTEL Restaurant has been awarded by the Scandinavian restaurant guide White Guide, both as the best restaurant in Kiruna and as top three in Swedish Lapland, offers you local dishes and unique drinks – all served on ice if you’d like.

CHEF’S TABLE at the Veranda is perfect for the gourmand. A twelve– course dinner with a specially composed wine menu carefully selected by our sommelier is cooked and served in front of the guests, all wearing comfy wool slippers.

ICEBAR BY ICEHOTEL Our ICEBAR-concept has moved beyond Jukkasjärvi. In our ice bars you can have a drink in a sub-zero setting, surrounded by the ice from the Torne River. Sometimes as a pop up bar that only exists for a limited amount of time and sometimes as a permanent addition to the city’s nightlife.
