WOMEN IN BUSINESS
Tell me a little about yourself.
My name is Megan Fox. People seem somewhat fascinated by my name which I find funny. Just for the record, I actually am the OG! I worked for renown brands in the fashion apparel, footwear, and outerwear industries for more than 15 years. And now I’ve been bitten by the entrepreneur bug. I’m the Co-Founder and CMO of GenXWoman, a digital media company for the women of Generation X. I’m also a Style Coach, helping women style their mindset and define their signature style. You can find me on Instagram @styleafoxy.

Why did you start GenXWoman?
My friend Dena (and now business partner) and I met at our last corporate job and found that we had common interests and work experiences. We both loved Sex & The City and were looking for that type of girlfriend bonding at this point in our lives to share in some of the things we’re facing in our forties. But we also wanted to have fun, not commiserate. We were challenged with finding it whether that was digitally or in person. It was like we weren’t being considered and there was a huge void. So, we created it. And that’s how GenXWoman came to be.

Tell me what GenXWoman stands for.
It started out with having a community of women around our age inspiring and supporting each other. And then we started looking more at our generation, Generation X. It’s not just a term to identify a group of people based on the year they were born (Pew Research uses the years 1965-1980). We noticed it also came with negative rhetoric and we were appalled by it. How could our generation of hard working, self-motivated, independent, strong, well established, badass women (and men) still be dubbed as “slackers”? And why weren’t we given credit for our accomplishments, consistently being glossed over in the media?
GenXWoman is about celebrating how much we’ve accomplished, what we’ve gone through, and where we want to go. It’s about embracing being in the prime time of our lives and offering solutions to the challenges Gen X women are facing. And it’s about standing up for ourselves and working to change the narrative of Generation X. We have voices and we know how to use them. As Gen X women, we truly believe this is our time.
