ICF ARGENTINA CHAPTER-RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
COACHING AND ITS APPLICATION IN NGO FIELD CASE STUDY Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House RESEARCH METHODOLOGY • The case-study methodology is a research and training approach based on the study of real life experiences and situa8ons. As a research method, it enables us to build a unique learning framework in par8ally known specific contexts. It is grounded on ac8ve par8cipa8on and collabora8ve processes
Ronald McDonald House RESEARCH METHODOLOGY SCOPE • The primary objec8ve of systema8zing the cases is to conceptualize and systema8ze experiences to enhance and increase the knowledge base concerning the art and science of coaching • It is not a probability sample extracted from a random popula8on to which results can be extended. It is about results that contribute to the development of a theory that can be transferred to other cases
Ronald McDonald House RESULTS THE IMPLICATION OF TEAMWORK: • Having observed and assessed team members´ capabili8es and characteris8cs, we noted effec8ve communica8on, leadership, and well-balanced par8cipa8on based on mutual trust. It was also observed the use of individual influence for the benefit of the team. Overall, based on members´experience, knowhow and qualifica8ons; it was viewed the team maturity level to achieve the integra8on of individual capabili8es and characteris8cs, resul8ng in high team interac8on
Ronald McDonald House THE DESIGN OF OUR INITIATIVE FOCUSED ON: • Managing employees´mo8va8on to create a good work environment • Aligning mission, vision and individual values with organiza8onal values • Promo8ng coopera8on and leadership • Promo8ng work-life balance within and outside the NGO • Improving opera8onal management
Ronald McDonald House NEW POSSIBILITIES ARISING FROM THIS EXPERIENCE • Consensus to implement a volunteer work policy that will be developed • To offer an addi8onal space for coaches to prac8ce, contribute to their coaching careers and educa8on and add hours of coaching sessions for future accredita8on • To replicate this model in other ins8tu8ons
Ronald McDonald House WHAT WOULD WE DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME? We could improve many things such as: • Our coordina8on to buy the material used • Provide volunteers with informa8ve material when invi8ng them to join in, so that they can understand their role and feel mo8vated
Ronald McDonald House ACKNOWLEDGMENTS: We would like to acknowledge and thank to those who have
contributed to make this project real; giving us their exper8se, 8me and support • Fernando SabaFni for recording the ac8vi8es, photos and tes8monials • José Maria Reyes for the design and video edi8ng

Types of families and children staying in the House. Specific volunteers and families needs For this project to be valid, sustainable and effec8ve, we highlight the importance of: • Establishing mutual agreements before the coaching process • Iden8fying the team needs (If they, as a team, are able to iden8fy their own needs, we will have a good star8ng point to design our ac8on plan)
Ronald McDonald House PROJECT ACTIVITY DESIGNING THE PROJECT BASED ON RMH NEEDS
Our Research Commi[ee members held several mee8ngs to discuss and design the project proposal The first conclusion drawn was that our ini8a8ve would basically target both: • Volunteers • Families living in RMH • We would work with them separately at different stages

TESTIMONIALS FROM RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS- ICF ARGENTINA CHAPTER
• ...“It was a wonderful experience, with very ac%ve par%cipa%on from volunteers. In an environment, where disease is inevitably present, we perceived joy. That is what they told us. • About the Research team work, I can only tell you a lot of nice things…we were able to implement many of the things we had learned as Coaches: We listened to each other, par%cipated ac%vely, accepted our differences. We gained from diversity, respec%ng one another. We were all leaders. We cared for the other and coordinated ac%ons. All in all we set up a network…and all this was reflected during the 3-hour event where people stayed longer wondering when we would come back! • What else can I tell you…I felt so happy!!!....”

• ….”These were events that moved our innermost being. Despite the pain of the families, this experience made them share and forget for a while all that grief. We were all able to enjoy color, laughter and joy through games, deep thinking and a lot of learning. • As a team, there was so much synergy . We created such strong bonds that made the acFvity an interesFng and enriching experience. As Coaches, we put all our knowledge into pracFce and we realized that theoreFcal concepts may become real and create an empowering moFvaFon source” TeresaSacco Interna8onal Coach (PCC) Research and Development Commi[ee Vice Director ICF, Argen8na Chapter

• “To me, this experience meant that when you truly want to help, you can do it. If you want to make a contribuFon to change the world, you can do it, and with your own tools. • I consider this to be essenFal since I deeply believe in Gandhi´s words: “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. • We very ofen listen to complaints about the world. SFll, there is a lot to do out there. Where there is a need for change, we can take acFons to make it possible. StarFng by simply being that type of person you wish to see in the world. • Surely, there is something we know how to do; something we are good at, and adds value. And if, in this path we need to learn something, let´s go and learn it! • This experience gave me this chance. We wanted to help. We are Coaches. And we decided we could use our tools to share our learnings, to add value to everyone. Because when I do something for others, I do something for myself. This is my contribuFon to “a beier world” • I also realized that it is not about “everything or nothing”, it is about sharing. Each of us made a contribuFon; and together, with love and respect, we made it real. • Thanks Sandra for leading this team and for the wonderful idea you had when we were planning the year ´s objecFves. I know this can be replicated and I know there are a lot of people who want to add value. We could perceive it. This experience was a magnificent example of this. The Team said YES from the beginning! And then, more people joined us! Thanks, thanks, thanks” Greta Mochen Coach, ICF Member Research and Development Commi[ee

TESTIMONIALS FROM RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS- ICF ARGENTINA CHAPTER • “When I was thinking about what I experienced in Ronald McDonald House, the first thing that came to me was, What did I feel? • I felt it was a unique moment… I was so lucky to be a Coach… I was fortunate to learn from very harsh and courageous life stories… • I met people who know how to love; from volunteers who give that energy to those in need, from its directors who devote their hearts to help these people… • Those kids are so strong, so much energy and maturity… • So, what happened to me?… I stepped to study a lot, prepared myself and took a lot of informaFon to teach and give… and as it turns from the heart… I came back home with tears in my eyes, with so much learning that I can barely put it into words….I can just feel it, smile and express it…” Mar8n Wa[ers Coach, ICF Member Research and Development Commi[ee
