She has been dancing all night and as day breaks she sneaks out, climbs the steep winding stairs to the roof and exits through a narrow door. She is above it all, in a brief moment of solitude. From below, the distant throbbing of music reaches her. Her friends are still dancing and enjoying …oh, how she loves them all.Alone under the vast grey morning sky, her cheeks blushes in the wind. All around, there is the city with its roofs, towers and churches. She feels feminine and sexy in her short dress. Too lightly dressed for winter. But she is not cold. Christmas at auntie’s castle was cosy, she thinks. But New Year is her favourite; the instant when the past vanishes and the future is not there yet. Where there is just the present moment. She closes her eyes and dances away on the rooftops. Above the city. Above it all.
