Amanda’s

CELEBRITY SPOTLIGHT This month SOCIETY MARBELLA turns the spotlight on actress and presenter, Amanda Holden

Got Talent

A

Stephen Tomkinson. During the final series, Amanda appeared on another television programme, the first season, of British television talent show, Britain’s Got Talent. Amanda took to the judges table alongside Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell in 2007 and the show was an instant success. Since then, Britain’s Got Talent has pulled in audiences in excess of 20 million viewers and series four resulted in the finding of the worldwide phenomenon, Susan Boyle. In addition, in 2010 Britain’s Got Talent took home the BAFTA award for Best Entertainment Program.

manda Holden is one of Britain’s most cherished television personalities. Ever since she made her debut on ‘Blind Date’ and snapped up her first role in ‘Eastenders’, this British beauty has delighted audiences with her allure and charm. Amanda became a household name when she played the part of Mel in three series of the hit comedy Kiss Me Kate featuring Caroline Quentin, before taking on the role as ‘Miss Titley’ in the popular comedy series The Grimleys thus cementing her reputation as a rising star. However it wasn’t just her acting talent that found her in the headlines during this time. Married to comedian, Les Dennis, Amanda became a tabloid victim when she engaged in an affair with ‘Men Behaving Badly’ actor, Neil Morrissey. Although they attempted to rekindle their marriage the damage was done and Amanda and Les separated in December 2002. It took Amanda seven years to talk publically about the affair exclaiming,

“the backlash over my affair with Neil Morrissey was the worst thing that ever happened to me. Up to that point I’d

never been in any major trouble and I found the fall from grace incredibly hard to deal with. I can’t bear not to

18

be liked and I’ve always been a people pleaser.” Despite her personal errors, her acting career continued to blossom and the prime time BAFTA award winning series ‘Cutting It’, aired between 2002 and 2005, truly catapulted her into the spotlight. In addition to her television credits, Amanda’s passion for musical theatre took her to the West End where she performed as the title role in the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie for which she received outstanding reviews and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She then went on to star in three hugely successful series of ITV’s ‘Wild at Heart’ alongside Hayley Mills and

Alongside her judging role, in 2011 Amanda reignited her love for the stage by appearing in the West End version of the hit cartoon movie franchise Shrek, playing Princess Fiona. After creating the role of Princess Fiona in its Opening Premier in London’s West End Amanda picked up Best Actress in A Musical for the What’s On Stage Awards, Best Theatre Actress at the Glamour 2012 Women of the Year Awards and Best Actress in a Musical for the Cosmopolitan Awards. However her term was cut short when she found out she was expecting her second child with husband, music producer, Chris Hughes. The news was a blessing for the happy couple, as Amanda suffered from a miscarriage and a tragic stillbirth in recent years.

“I´m looking for the acts that will give me goose bumps.”

“Les has always been a bit of a national treasure, and Neil had that whole Men Behaving Badly image.” 20

Holden’s costars and celebrity friends shared their condolences and showed their support following the devastating news with Piers Morgan tweeting, “So desperately sad for my special friend Amanda Holden – sending her and Chris my love and prayers at this horrible time.”, and Spice Girl Emma Bunton exclaiming, “Absolutely devastated for Amanda Holden and Chris. Thinking of them and sending our prayers at this very sad time.” In January 2012, Amanda gave birth to a daughter, Hollie Rose after emergency hospitalisation. Held is critical care for three days, Holden battled for her life and baby Hollie, born a month early, was put into a special care unit. Thankfully Amanda’s condition stabilized rapidly and husband, Chris, took to Twitter to share the heartfelt news with the world. “Hollie Rose Hughes was born on January 23, 2012. She is healthy and weighed in at 6lb 1oz but Amanda has been in a critical condition for the past three days. She is now stable and we expect her to make a full recovery very soon.” Following Hollie’s birth, Amanda embarked on a new journey hosting the huge new talent show for itv1, Jesus Christ Superstar, in a battle to find a talent to take on the role of Jesus in an arena tour of Rock Musical Jesus Christ Superstar alongside Melanie C and Chris Moyles. This month Amanda is back for the seventh series of Britain’s Got Talent and as the only judge to return every year since the beginning, all we can say is… Amanda has truly got talent! Amanda Holden’s autobiography is available in hardback form Autumn 2013.

Society Marbella brings you all the gossip and glamour straight from Hollywood By Christie Holland

It has been a tough month for Kelly Osbourne, the television presenter was rushed to hospital after a suspected seizure whilst filming an upcoming episode of E!’s Fashion Police. An ambulance immediately arrived to take Kelly to the hospital on a stretcher with a white sheet covering her whole body, including her face, to block her from any media. The young star tweeted from the hospital “Thank U all 4 UR beautiful well wishes yes I did have a seizure they are just trying to figure out why?”. Unfortunately the seizure was more serious than originally expected and doctors have confirmed that there is a strong possibility that Kelly may be epileptic. This is not the first sign of health issues for the Osbourne family. Her brother Jack Osbourne, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year and her mother, Sharon, successfully battled colon cancer ten years ago.

So Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus can add another item to their list of things in common… they now share the same manager. Following her spilt with manager Jason Morey, last year, the twenty-year-old singer has signed with Spears’ long-term manager, Larry Rudolph. Rudolph has been working with Britney since 1999 and helped turn her from a Mouseketeer into a superstar. The duo went their separate ways in 2007 but reunited just a year later. He then helped revitalize her career with ‘Circus’ in 2008. It appears the veteran manager has a few things in store for the Hannah Montana star who is set to release a new album later this year.

Congratulations are in order for Playboy boss, Hugh Hefner’s ex-girlfriend. Holly Madison who starred in the television show, The Girls Next Door before heading to the Vegas stage, has given birth to a baby girl. Rainbow Aurora Rotella is Holly’s first child with beau Pasquale Rotella. Talking of the unusual name, Holly explains, “I wanted to give my daughter a unique name. Growing up, there was a girl in my school named Rainbow and I was so envious of that name. I thought it was so pretty and unique!” If you think the unusual name is strange, following the birth, Madison revealed plans to consume her placenta, in pill form. “I heard it helps women recover faster and I want to recover as quickly as I can!”

22

Kristen Bell has her fans to thank for her next movie role, a big screen version of the television series, Veronica Mars. Bell who played the lead character in the show, and series creator, Rob Thomas, launched a Kickstart campaign to raise the $2 million required for the film. Hoping to raise the money in thirty days, the duo were gobsmacked when it took only ten hours. To show her support Kristen tweeted, “I love you guys. You are all SO spectacular. I am speechless.” If everything goes to plan Veronica Mars The Movie will be hitting a theatre near you in 2014. Are things heading the wrong way for Justin Bieber? After a disastrous week in London with late shows, fights with the paparazzi and a frightening health scare, you would think the young star would want to keep his fans happy, but instead what does he do? Cancel two shows in Portugal due to ‘unforeseen circumstances.’ Although his team are keeping tight lipped on the what exactly the reasons are, no doubt his recent erratic behaviour has something to do with it! Whilst some of Bieber’s fans might be upset with their idol, a barrage of celebrities have come forward to support the star, including Will Smith, whose son Jaden is one of the show’s support acts. Justin tweeted his thanks, saying: “Love to big man Will Smith for the great talk yesterday. We know the truth and we must stand tall. Love u man! Thanks!” Rapper Professor Green also announced his support. “I’m team Bieber on this one. You get the odd pap who’s alright – the rest are weirdos. Imagine having to deal with a******’s following you everywhere and constantly trying to bate you into a response.” Is there anything they can’t do? When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie decided to start selling wine from their Chateau in France, we all knew it was most likely to be a success! However no one anticipated quite the level of triumph, with the first batch of wine from their vineyards selling out in a mere five hours. The Miraval Rosé 2012 would only ship to addresses in France, but the $139, six-bottle cases were still snapped up by the afternoon. Pitt and Jolie “actively participated” in the production of the blend as well as redesign of the bottle. Don’t be upset if you were not one of the lucky ones, the Hollywood couple made 100,000 bottles that they’ll be selling to stores and restaurants soon!

Introducing SOCIETY MARBELLA’s favourite tracks set to hit the charts this month. By Christie Holland

THE SPIN

Shake the Room by Gamu When Gamu Nhengu set out to make her debut album, she took her time. “I wanted to make something that would last,” she says, “something timeless, classic and classy – like a Chanel suit”. Gamu turned to the 1960s for inspiration, mixing it with the mainstream pop and R&B she grew up with to create a sound she dubs Nu: Vintage. The infectious and sassy track, Shake the Room provides the perfect introduction to ex X Factor contestant, Gamu’s Nu: Vintage sound.

10 by New Kids on the Block 80’s boy band, New Kids on the Block, are returning to the music scene with their reunion album, 10. “It’s a little more retro [and] it kicks the doors open. We haven’t put an album out in five years, so we wanted to come back with something that had a lot of energy and spirit and while it is sort of a unique sound to the album, what’s not unique about it and what’s consistent throughout the whole album is our passion and commitment to the song,” revealed singer, Donnie Wahlberg.

Paramore by Paramore Ever since former guitarist Josh Farro and drummer Zac Farro left in December 2010, the world has waited in anticipation to see what will become of Paramore. This month sees the release of their selftitled album. Explaining why they chose to self-title the album, the band revealed, “the whole making of this album was a rediscovering of ourselves as a band and as friends. It was a process that allowed us the freedom to explore new territory artistically and to liberate ourselves as musicians, singers and as people! Sincerely, we feel that the best way to give it a name is just to call it what it is. This album is us.” The Side Effects of You by Fantasia Fantasia is back with her fourth album; she describes the music on the collection as rock-soul, an amalgam of Tina Turner and James Brown. “It’s my baby because I finally got to write,” she says. “I just wanted so bad to always do something like that and I thank the record company, RCA, for allowing me to do that on this album.”

26

Tate Stevens by Tate Stevens After taking home the Season 2 X Factor USA crown, country singer, Tate Stevens is releasing his debut album. Produced by Blake Chancey, the 11-track collection includes three songs co-written by Tate. “Since winning The X Factor, we’ve listened to hundreds of songs and set a ton of writing appointments with some of Nashville’s best songwriters,” reveals Tate. “The outcome is a collection of eleven songs I’m really proud of.”

To Be Loved by Michael Buble Michael Bublé’s highly anticipated new studio album To Be Loved is released this month. The Bob Rockproduced LP includes four original songs all cowritten by Michael, including After All, a co-write with singer and fellow Canadian, Bryan Adams, who also performs on the song. Another, perhaps more surprising, duet; a cover of Frank and Nancy Sinatra‘s Somethin’ Stupid, featuring Reese Witherspoon!

FEEL-GOOD FACTOR

TIPS from a

TRAINER With Easter upon us, our resident fitness and nutrition expert, Paul Isaacs, looks at ways that we can stay focused on our healthy eating plans.

L

et’s be honest. It’s tricky for most of us to stick to a bog-standard healthy eating plan, let alone a full-blown ‘diet’, where the obsession with counting calories or adding up points can be all-consuming. Discipline and temptation are the two biggest factors that stand in the way of success. Some of us just don’t have the will-power to stick to eating healthily. It all sounds so simple, doesn’t it?… even when it’s written down in front of us, or pinned to our fridge. We know what we SHOULD be doing, but it seems SO difficult. Most of us are tuned to breaking the rules now and again, so the meal plans that I provide for my clients incorporate the odd treat here and there. The problem with some ‘diets’ is that when we do have a naughty moment and reach for the biscuit tin, the feelings of guilt and failure become so overwhelming that we can often be tempted to quit altogether. The general rule that I follow with clients is the ‘70/30’ ratio. This means that they eat healthily for 70% of the time. Trust me, although it sounds easy, in most cases this represents a vast improvement on normal day-today consumption, and improvements to health and shape can be seen pretty quickly. If a client is keen to move things along, we alter the ratio to ‘80/20’. The majority of us find it easier to shift through the gears in this way rather than trying to become a ‘superhuman’ overnight.

Make sure all your main meals are protein based. Ingredients like salmon, chicken, turkey, egg whites and tuna are ideal. Raw nuts are packed with protein and are great for snacks, so carry some around with you during the day. Eat vegetables and some fruits as your main source of carbs during the day, and limit consumption of processed food & sugars. Aim to drink 3 litres of water a day, and avoid calorific drinks…yes, I’m afraid that means the daily latte and the evening tipple!

Here are some other ideas to keep you on track:

It’s best to eat starch-based foods, ideally brown rice or pasta & sweet potatoes, after your workout or at lunchtimes, rather than later in the day.

Many people think that food-deprivation is the best form of dieting, but this never leads to healthy long-term weight loss. Remember to eat regularly, ideally every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolism ticking over.

If you find yourself reaching for the easter eggs when you are curled up on the sofa in front of the TV at night, try eating your main meal an hour later than the usual time. This should help keep the munchies at bay before you go to bed.

FRAC3 LASER REJUVENATION ( for the face ) This treatment stimulates the production of collagen through localized thermal destruction in the dermis, which then stimulates the production of new collagen. Treatments are every 10 days - 2 weeks. ACNE TREATMENT This is for mild to moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris infections due to an increase in blood supply in affected areas. Laser energy will be absorbed in the infected area heat is then generated there which will destroy the bacteria. Treatment in courses of 5 every 8 days 2 weeks.

TATTOO REMOVAL This laser system delivers powerful short laser light pulses which pass through the skin and break up colour images. The remnant of these images are then naturally removed by the body's natural defense system, hence why you only need to have a treatment once every 2-3 months. PIGMENTATION Pigmented lesions usually contain an increased number of melanocytes in the Basel area of the epidermis. The photoacustic effect of the laser causes a breakdown of the cells that contain the pigment.

ADDITIONAL TREATMENTS: Hair removal, scar tissue, open pores.

QMAX Marbella offers the most technically advanced laser treatments, guaranteed to enhance your natural beauty while also tackling specific issues. QMAX Marbella, a name you can trust, offers laser for hair removal, skin rejuvenation, acne clearance and many other skin-care and cosmetic procedures. With over 14 years’ experience in the industry, QMAX Marbella director Sara Saide’s main aim is to ensure that her clients are given the right advice and care to achieve the very best results. Her knack for making people feel comfortable about their choices and her high standards of treatments, keeps her clinic at the level of success it holds today. “During clients’ skin consultations I create a customised treatment plan that complements both their beauty and confidence”, Sara reveals. “My clients can rest assured that I always invest in state of the art technology. My latest machine from Fotona provides an unmatched performance for the treatment of acne, veins, skin rejuvenation and resurfacing and hair reduction. It enables me to offer quicker, more efficient procedures, higher precision and control and, therefore, greater patient comfort and satisfaction. With the addition of new treatments, such as fractional face rejuvenation, tattoo removal and the treatment of pigmentation, my laser skin procedures not only make skin more beautiful, but healthier as well.” Here is an in-depth look at some of QMAX Marbella’s most popular treatments.

HAIR TODAY, GONE TOMORROW

Imagine having smooth, hair free skin without shaving, waxing, plucking, or bleaching your unwanted fuzz. Using the latest Fotona Laser technology, QMAX Marbella offers safe, fast, effective treatments for both men and women. Unlike other treatments, this one of a kind computer-guided scanner is able to treat large areas of your skin with accuracy by removing the possibility of human error. It requires no creams or gels, no pre-treatment waxing, and no needles. In fact, Fotona Laser hair removal is a cosmetic breakthrough. Treatments are comfortable, treating hair follicles in a fraction of the time of other methods. Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking, waxing and depilatory creams provide only temporary relief. Until now, the only recognised way to remove hair has been by electrolysis - which can be tedious, time-consuming and uncomfortable. The Fotona Laser safely removes unwanted body hair with-

34

out damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin.

RETHINK THAT INK

Tattoos are very popular, but many people live to regret them. The good news is that you don’t have to put up with that tattoo for a lifetime - there is hope! Tattoo removal using methods such as surgery, acid peels and metal brush scrubbing are a thing of the past. Laser tattoo removal is a patient friendly solution that is low-risk, bloodless and has minimal side effects. QMAX Marbella’s Fotona QX-Max laser can remove multi-coloured tattoos that most laser systems can’t cope with - even the hard to lose green and sky blue pigments. When you have a tattoo, the tattoo ink is injected into the deep layers of the skin and locked away by a wall of collagen fibres. This makes the body’s immune system unable to remove the tattoo pigments. The laser affects the tattoo pigments by producing a very short and strong high energy laser pulse. This penetrates deep into the skin without injuring the top layers of skin and is absorbed by the tattoo ink. These pulses create a photo-acoustic affect and break the tattoo pigments into smaller pieces. As the tattoo ink is now in smaller particles the body’s immune system can remove them.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE

Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that affects many; QMAX Marbella offers a laser acne treatment protocol that provides a truly comprehensive solution to the problem. Fotona’s precisely controlled laser light safely penetrates the skin to target overactive sebaceous glands and to reduce the risk of new acne inflammation. For improving the appearance of acne scars, the clinic offers a laser treatment based on a precise and gentle skin resurfacing procedure in which the laser beam is absorbed by the top micro-layers of the skin to vaporise scarred tissue and stimulate the production of new collagen in the dermis. Unlike chemical peels and dermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing allows the penetration depth to be precisely controlled. The laser gently vaporises micron-thin layers of the acne-scarred surface to reveal healthy, undamaged skin below. Laser resurfacing is a fast, safe and simple procedure. By far the best present you can give yourself is to be treated by one of the best lasers ever made.

PAMPER DAYS By Nicola McGeoge Images by David Toms

As a huge fan of pampering, you can imagine how excited I was when I got the chance to sample the delights of The Ocean Spa at The El Oceano Beach Hotel and who am I to turn that down? To get a male point of view, I dragged, my other half with me. If the truth be known he didn’t need much persuading. The Ocean Spa, which is privately owned and operated, is an oasis of tranquil luxury, where the guests’ comfort and satisfaction is paramount. The Ocean Spa features an indoor, heated pool, Jacuzzi, swim-spa and steam room, while at the treatment centre you can find top beauty therapists, hairdressers and nail technicians all of whom are qualified to provide you with a wonderful menu of luxurious treatments. With such a vast array of treatments we found it really difficult to choose. They include, Thai dumpling & Hot Stone massage, Spray tan, Eyelash Extensions, Semi permanent make up, laser hair removal, Shellac and much more! Brisa Lite Gel which is the first ever product that lengthens and strengthens your nails. If you are feeling too lazy to move, there is even a pool side massage on offer. I was very impressed with the high-tech facials available, crystal clear, oxygen

36

and the non-Surgical Face Lifts to name a few. I decided on the Elemis Spa Therapy Advanced Anti-Ageing Facial. These superior face and eye treatments include a luxurious hand, arm and scalp massage for ultimate relaxation. Andy opted for the Guinot Paris Hydradermie, where pure and natural ingredients penetrate into the lower layers of your skin to flush out impurities and hydrate it, plus a full-body massage. Greedy? Never! My facial was divine. Most therapists leave the room while your mask gets to work, however my therapist spent this time massaging my hands, wrapping my feet in hot towels and treating me to an Indian Head massage. Andy came out glowing and refreshed.

After coming round from my trance-like state of bliss, we decided to sample a few cocktails on the new Polynesian VIP Sundeck and treating ourselves to lunch in the restaurant. At El Oceano you can swim right up to the bar, a feature that got the thumbs up from us. I actually felt like we were in a scene from the movie Cocktail, and boy were the Piña Coladas good. Lunch was served overlooking the ocean and the food was delicious. What can I say? A breath-taking setting, superb service and an unforgettable experience. HOME COUTURE This month, in her column for SOCIETY MARBELLA, Andrea Böck, Managing Director of Ambience Home Design, reports on all things al fresco. Andrea Böck, interior designer and founder of Ambience Home Design S.L. has, over the last decade, worked on a variety of projects throughout Europe, the Caribbean Islands and Middle East, assisting her clients in the very challenging task of refurbishing, decorating and furnishing their homes down to the very last detail.

Inside Out O n this beautiful coast we are blessed with sun all year-round! And with summer round the corner it’s only natural that we begin to anticipate warmer days and picture ourselves relaxing outdoors, sinking into our love seat whilst enjoying a good book, a beautiful view, and a sip of chilled wine to contrast the welcomed heat. We start making plans of what to do, where to go, who to invite, and the whole idea of summer just creates a happy bounce of excitement.

So the question is, are our al-fresco areas really up to scratch?

Metal or aluminum structures are now often seen in bright and happy colours

The new trend forward is for outdoor furniture that hardly differentiates from indoor. We are moving on from the woven Poly resin weaves, to upholstered sofas and dining chairs, although, weave takes a new form in all sorts of braids and knits and materials, that you will also find stunning, I’m sure.

Also, a very welcomed trend seen in Elle Décor and Architectural Digest magazines, etc. is the combination setting of different styles of chairs around a table, an impromptu mix-match of colour and pattern that creates a funky and relaxed atmosphere for outdoor space. Dedon leads the way on this one. Here are some pieces that have stood out to me!

HOME COUTURE

DEDON:

Where would the outdoor world be without Dedon, this leading company for outdoor furniture, surprises us time and again, with their mix of modern technology and original designs… Here are a few of my favourites this season:

DALA:

Through years of groundbreaking work, the weave you find in the Dala collection is created from a mix of recycled food-and-drink packaging and 100-percent recyclable High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Characterized by a rich, paper-like texture that’s a delight to touch, the fiber is recommended for both indoor and outdoor use.

PLAY BY PHILIPPE STARCK

With an option of leather or satin upholstery Dedon’s play selection is versatile and chic. These chairs are also stackable and embrace patterns that portray a freedom of style and unity, a must for any playful eye.

FEDRO BY LORENZA BROZZOLI

A floor rocker! A colourful combination of weave makes this rocking chair so enticing and playful to achieve a relaxed atmosphere, and coveted by sun lovers, even among our canine friends as we can see.

SUMMERLAND

Simply sophisticated, this collection is what an elegant summer is all about! And the umbrellas are fab! DEDON products available in OBOE-DEDON PUERTO BANUS Avda. Antonio El Bailarín, Edificio Tembo Banus, Puerto Banus, Marbella Tel. 952 818 942 dedon.es

PAOLA LENTI

Outdoor rugs have been slightly overlooked, but now we’d like to give them a place to shine and hit the floor. Here are a couple creative ideas by Paola Lenti. These rugs will chapter the seating area to complete the outdoor experience. paolalenti.it

Zoe 5 High Tech rugs are produced with Aquatech and Rope, Paola Lenti signature yarns which provide for high performance in outdoor environments. Aquatech and Rope are resistant to the atmospheric elements and their colours offer a high fastness to sunlight, sea and swimming pool water.

SABI Shang 04

44

We know what’s hot, and this Sabi seat really is! Its structure is made from stainless steel and elastic belts, and its base in sassafras wood. For the backrest, upholstery is available in Paola Lent’s Thuia signature fabric, or handwoven Rope or Aquatech cord. Altogether, you get a zen feel from this design, and the outdoor rug (also from Paola Lenti) really ties this design in perfectly.

HOME COUTURE

FLOAT

These upholstered cushion seats are a daydream. They are visually enticing and sincerely convey a “chill-out” mood, don’t they?

WELCOME This bubbly seating series, is seamless, flawless. It has an internal metal frame with plastic spacers, and its padding is achieved with a stress-resistant differentiated expanded polyurethane foam and polyester fiber; internal cover also in waterproof polyester fabric. Removable covers also available

MARSET CALA

Beautiful Cala, the “indoor” look it has, provides a nuance of warmth and welcome. marset.com paolalenti.it

SWING WITH WABI

The Wabi swing has such an original finishing touch, and the way the vertical wood sticks out at the top is bold! By default, it catches the eye in any garden or terrace. The structure is hand woven with a waterproof silicone profile covered with Rope or Aquatech yarn and its structure is made of sassafras wood treated against stains and water.

MELLOW

So this one is one of my favourites. It’s so plush and perfect, and again combines an indoor feel to the outdoor experience. The seat, back and armrest cushions are made in cold injected, stress resistant polyurethane, previously treated to be water repellent, so again, super functional. Covers are removable and available in a variety of Paola Lenti fabrics. I also love the separating panels, definitely chic and gives privacy in a soft way.

Lets take outdoor design one step further. A stylish outdoor space needs to be finished off with an outdoor carpet, a free standing light and a breathtaking chandelier such as this one from Marjorie Skouras which is available in all colours. marjorieskourasdesign.com

ROYAL BOTANICA WAVE

This designer piece is stunning. Its clever design stands on one foot, from which the shade sprouts to create a wave-like umbrella overhead. Its ocean inspired design surrounds us like a swirl of wellness. A variety of colours are available and the base can be chosen for either concrete floors or sandy beaches! royalbotania.com

FANSTUDIO - ZERO

Tropisms are movements experienced by plants when they need to adapt to different ambient conditions. Inspired by the natural movement of plants that open, close and rotate to capture sunlight, or to protect themselves from wind or rain, Fanstudio has created the remarkable and particular “ZERO DAY BED”, to give its user the best outdoor experience.

KOKOON

This hammock is suspended on a 4-post structure, providing an inviting, cushiony place to hide away …. A set of curtains can be added, making your Kokoon an even more romantic place to dwell. royalbotania.com

Its 2.20m diamater bed with adjustable backrest, and the 360th tour one gets through its sliding segment-like cover, is undeniably a phenomenon to outdoor furniture. Moreover, hidden under the center of the mattress, we find a discrete bottle holder, that is backlit, providing ambience lighting within this dome. Seriously? Could you get any more clever than that? This is what I call an exquisite operation of sophisticated engineering. fanstudio.es

Pedro Alcántara is one of the few Pedro Alcántara, seen through “ San “ San towns on the coast that still exudes the eyes of a veteran, has the greatest the traditional ‘village’ ambience. Everything from the old town, boasting small, traditional boutiques to the extensive collection of fine dining restaurants, bars and entertainment is worth visiting. I also have to highlight the importance of the opening of the new tunnel, significantly improving the link between the remainder of Marbella, Estepona and Benahavis. In addition, around San Pedro you will find the best areas and urbanizations of the coast, such as La Zagaleta, Los Flamingos, Guadalmina and Nueva Andalucía, and of course the world renowned Puerto Banus. Due to the combination of these factors every day new brands, such as ‘La Sala’ are opening, thus enhancing the town of San Pedro Alcantara.

power of attraction. The quality of its people and the desire of its ongoing development is vital. Although some people are trying to marginalise this, it continues to rise.

Since the tunnel opened the ease of access has substantially increased and further businesses have emerged thus increasing the overall appeal of the town. ‘El Rincon de la Sala’, which replaced ‘Antarctica’ has become the meeting place for locals and foreigners who enjoy breakfasts and superb cuisine at affordable prices. I am a Sampedreña at heart, since I arrived in 1961 and I of course have a great passion for San Pedro Alcántara, but I advise you to come, see and check it out for yourself.

What made you decide to invest in opening in San Pedro? My older daughter’s family is from San Pedro, so I have always had a soft spot for the town. San Pedro has suffered over the past five years, firstly with the underground parking project, then with the new tunnel, but now these projects are complete, San Pedro can really emerge as a greater town, keeping its identity and culture, but sitting in the middle of the beautiful cosmopolitan coastline we live on. I was walking in San Pedro a couple of years ago, with one of my partners, Howard, and he looked across the street at the old cafeteria “Antartica” and said, “What a great site this would be” and we went from there!

How do you see the future of San Pedro? I would like to think that with us showing our confidence in the town by investing, other businesses would follow. Marbella Town Hall is also investing in some exciting projects, so I see a great future for a great town. What is it you like most about San Pedro? I like that although the town is bang in the middle of a stylish and modern stretch of coast, it keeps its own Spanish identity and traditions, and I think it always will. It is a cozy town, which has everything, and unlike some other places here, you remember you are actually in Spain!

Pedro must be visited because it is “ San one of the few towns on the Coast that

What are you favorite places in San Pedro? The main pedestrian street, leading up to the main church square, is always bustling with a great atmosphere and great bars. I also like Alfredo´s restaurant as it offers excellent, traditional Spanish cuisine. Finally, Albert and Simon restaurant is wonderful for a treat. Are things going to plan with the new venture? I could not be happier with how things have kicked off. We opened in mid October, so have now been open for 6 months. These are historically the worse six months in our line of business, but you would not know it. We have learnt more about what the locals want, and we listen and adapt, but still keep our La Sala uniqueness and style.

Have the local people embraced the La Sala style? This was my greatest concern; I was determined to create a place that was really embraced by the Spanish people. To achieve this attention went into the menus, the staff and the prices we charge. We asked ourselves the question; can we keep our signature La Sala style, but adapt it to the local market, respecting the local Spanish people and their desires? I would estimate that around 60% of out clients at Rincon de la Sala are Spanish, so I guess I can answer that question with a yes!... and that makes me very happy!

remain as a proper “village”, with its old town full of small traditional shops, with a very professional service, fine dining, bars, restaurants, entertainment, etc. I also have to highlight the importance of the opening of the new tunnel, improving the communications in just a few minutes with other towns like Marbella, Estepona and Benahavis, since we are in the center of this magnificent triangle. And also around San Pedro we can find the best areas and urbanizations of the Coast, like La Zagaleta, Los Flamingos, Guadalmina or Nueva Andalucía, and we cannot forget the world renowned Puerto Banus. For all these factors , each day we are finding new brands opening in San Pedro, for example “La Sala” and some other businesses in the city centre and in the sea line area. SLS AMG BLACK SERIES

Motoring author, racing driver and photo-journalist Ian Kuah reports on the SLS AMG BLACK SERIES

T

he standard SLS AMG, and even its GT brother are spectacular, but familiarity means that they now look quite ‘normal’. The SLS AMG Black Series on the other hand looks a mere heartbeat away from wearing race numbers and sponsors stickers. It also looks and sounds angry, which in my books is always a good thing.

69

TORQUE TALK So why would you buy an SLS Black Series over say a Ferrari 458 Italia or McLaren MP4-12C? Two words. Raw character. The Ferrari is a terrific driving experience, and as close as you might think you can get to the perfect supercar at sane money. Its chief rival, the McLaren is the perfect supercar at sane money. But the very perfection that makes it so everyday useable, and so effective on both road and track also leave it a shade less engaging than the Ferrari. You probably would not want to take the £230,000 SLS Black Series to the golf club, and certainly not use it as a daily driver, even though you probably could. However, find an open road, or better still a racetrack, on which to play, and the Black

Series, which looks suitably menacing in this flat grey coat of war paint, is the SLS’s evil twin. Its mid-engined rivals certainly have no reply to the crowd pulling drama of its gullwing doors Forget the scream of the Ferraris’ bent crank V8, the SLS Black Series possesses an original quality NASCAR grade rolling thunder soundtrack that shakes the very earth from the moment you press the Start button. And when you finally turn it off after a hard blast, the resulting silence can seem just as shattering. If the plain vanilla SLS is dynamite, the Black Series is a suitcase nuke. This is not one of those dubious marketing exercises with a few bits of carbon-fibre and 20hp extra, where you struggle to feel the difference.

If the plain vanilla SLS is dynamite, the Black Series is a suitcase nuke.

70

Here, your extra £60,000 over the plain vanilla SLS gets you 60 more horses and 70 less kilos. Think 622bhp (630PS) at 7,400rpm and 468 lb ft (634 Nm) of torque at 5,500rpm blasting 1,550kg of alloy, carbonfibre and steel to 100km/h in 3.6 sec and on to 196mph (315km/h). While the compression ratio is unchanged, cylinder combustion pressures are higher for greater efficiency and output. This comes about through a combination of shorter intake runners, high-lift camshafts, modified valve gear, titanium exhaust and a remapped ECU that allows the motor to rev cleanly all the way to 8,000rpm.

TORQUE TALK Coupled to the higher pitched tone of the titanium exhaust, the result is an even crisper fundamental note baritone singing voice that also stretches further up the scale. The weight loss programme for this aluminium space-framed and bodied car embraces lots of carbon-fibre, which is used structurally for parts like the rear bulkhead, and strategically for the underbody diagonal braces, torque tube, the bonnet, and the lightweight race seats in the cabin.

According to AMG powertrain engineer, Dr. Jรถrg Gindele, the carbon-fibre torque tube saves 13.3kg, and is 50 percent lighter than the normal aluminium equivalent. The 13kg titanium exhaust, made by Boysen, is also half the weight of its stainless steel counterpart, and even the lithium ion battery offers a near 50 percent weight saving. The big ceramic brakes that give the Black Series its strong and tireless retardation also offer a big saving on unsprung weight, while the lightweight race style

bucket seats are worth a few kilos. All this combines to make a night and day difference to the way the car accelerates, turns and stops. Consider it an SLS with the dial turned up to 11 in all aspects. This was also the first time that I had driven a car fitted with the new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber. It is not generally known, but due to stringent new EU rules on chemicals and manufacturing processes, some of the ingredients used by tyre manufacturers to make their trackday rubber sticky became illegal last year.

So why would you buy an SLS Black Series over say a Ferrari 458 Italia or McLaren MP4-12C? Two words. Raw character.

71

TORQUE TALK

Thus, we now have a whole new family of trackday rubber such as the Continental Sport Contact Race and these Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s.

thrust through the gears from the word go. I started off in Sport+ mode but soon reverted to manual shifting, which I personally prefer.

chance of a less than punishing ride on public roads. I say probably as our driving experience was limited to the billiard table smooth Paul Ricard Circuit.

After the customary warm up laps to get decent heat into the tyres on a cold and windy day at Paul Ricard, I started to explore the limits of the fifth AMG car to wear the Black Series label.

AMG’s engineers, no doubt helped by their professional racecar test drivers, have perfected the system to the point where it will upshift on cue and then fire off a rapid downshift and accompanying throttle blip under braking. But it is almost too perfect and takes some of the fun out of the drive.

The small torsional dampers AMG has installed to limit movement of the motor in front and the gearbox at the rear under lateral loadings, help to keep the car nicely trimmed from turn in to the exit of a bend. All this works very well with the Cup tyres to eke out higher mechanical grip and lateral acceleration than the standard or GT spec SLS models.

First impressions were of a car with noticeably better throttle response and

In Manual mode, things work just fine on upshift, but the two peccadillos of the dualclutch AMG gearbox remain. One is that you don’t always get an instantaneous downshift on demand when braking hard towards a slow corner, even when well within the speed range of the lower ratio. This seems to particularly afflict the third to second gear downshift. The other annoyance is the way that the rev limiter ‘hangs’ when you accidentally hit it in Manual mode. The subsequent two seconds hesitation makes you think it is giving you a petulant finger wag, and is particularly annoying when you are chasing down an equally quick driver on track, and then lose precious seconds because of an errant line of code. On the plus side, the brilliance of the chassis tuning shines through very clearly. The uprated springs and dampers keep the car very flat through the bends, and the active damping system that AMG rolled out at the time of the SLS Roadster’s debut means that you probably have a

72

Another trick to help the Black Series turn in and tackle bends better than its siblings is a new type of limited slip differential that AMG has developed in-house. While the Drexler unit normally found on the SLS and other AMG models is a mechanical LSD with fixed locking ratios of 40/60 percent under acceleration and braking, the new style differential allows a variable degree of locking from zero to 60 percent. Variable ratio locking means more precise apportioning of torque to each of the driven wheels, better traction, and more progressive limit handling. The result is a car that is an even better corner junkie than its siblings, as well as being faster in a straight line. “This is our first production application of the new LSD,” explained Dr. Gindele. “It works very well but it also costs more, so we have not come to any decision on

TORQUE TALK whether or not we will use it on other AMG models in the future. What I did discover fairly quickly though is that the Black Series requires a slightly different approach to track driving than a normal SLS. First of all, the set-up, which is tuned to work with these Cup tyres really is track biased, so you have to treat it like a racecar in terms of aggression. If you are timid, and brake in a straight line and turn in as your driving instructor taught you, you will be welcomed by understeer when you turn into a slow bend and start to throttle up. In view of the new LSD, which should actually lessen understeer, that surprised me, but it seems that you do need to get these sticky Cup tyres working for you. To get everything to gel you need to be aggressive but smooth, trail braking into the bends, and rolling progressively onto the throttle. Then the front grips nicely with the nicely damped rear axle following in perfect union. At least that is how it initially appears. In actual fact, it is the stability of the rear axle that sets the stage for the chassis, and you have to realise this and then alter the way the front end behaves in the way that I described above. Because the Black Series

This is by far the best drivers’ car AMG has ever made, and is a steer of truly heroic proportions.

73

TORQUE TALK

is like a racecar in this respect, you have to think like a racer to get the best from it. Fast bends are where the front ‘flics’ and that manually adjustable big carbon-fibre rear wing really come into their own. The car is unerringly stable in the sweepers, and gives you immense confidence when you are committed. However, even the sticky Cup tyres and chassis mods cannot hold back the flood of power and torque from the hot-rodded 6,208cc V8. When I started pushing really hard out of the tighter sections of the track, I had to contend with power oversteer.

This is not a problem since the combination of the more rapid helm, good intrinsic balance and the progressive LSD made for a clean step out and recovery. While definitely slower and showier, this is also a lot of fun. It was also apparent that the wide Cup tyres do not like the painted kerbs at Paul Ricard. The couple of times I rode the kerbs when attacking the slow S-bends sequences, the car lost traction in a way I do not recall from driving the standard SLS on its Continental Sport Contact 5P street tyres here. Get the stopwatch out and the Black Series is likely three seconds a lap faster here, which is pretty significant. Couched

in other terms, that is half a minute, or nearly a third of a lap over a ten-lap race. What the stopwatch cannot tell you though is what a huge hoot this car is to drive, and just how much fun I had on the day. Seldom do I ever punch the air after leaving a car after some hot laps, but this time I did. This is by far the best drivers’ car AMG has ever made, and is a steer of truly heroic proportions. For me, a great car is one that makes you want to keep on driving even after you have reached your destination. I have a very short list of cars into which I would pour the last drops of petrol on this earth and use them up with extreme prejudice. The epic SLS AMG Black Series is near the top of that list.

The Masters April 11 – 14 2013 By Christie Holland

T

he first US Masters took place in 1934; 2013 marks the 77th edition and the first of golf’s four major annual championships. Founded by Bobby Jones and revered by golfers everywhere, there is no tournament that exudes more passion than The Masters. The famed competition takes place every year at the Augusta National Golf Club, perhaps the most picturesque and perfectly manicured course in the world. Epitomising the perfect balance, Augusta provides you with the tools to shine if you are on your game but punish you if you are not. Last year, Bubba Watson snatched up the title and the famous Green Jacket in a playoff against Louis Oosthuizen. This year Bubba will be back in hopes of repeating his success. Although The Masters was his only 2012 win he did score a few runners-up titles and his length and brilliance around the greens could empower him to defend his crown. However his competition will be tough and extensive, with golfers old and new prepared to fight till the end and walk away with the prize.

76

When everything went from bad to worse in the final round of the Masters 2011, everyone expected it would be a while before Rory McIlroy could pull it back and win his first major. How wrong could we be? Ever since his Masters meltdown, Rory has taken the golfing world by storm, winning two majors, a world No. 1 ranking, and tournaments galore whilst also excelling in Europe’s famous Ryder Cup return. Nevertheless there is one event that stands between Rory and a legendary Green Jacket. Rory will be set on making his mark at the 2013 Masters… but he’s not the only one. This season, it is almost impossible to anticipate who will triumph with the talent stronger than ever. Dustin Johnson, Keegan Bradley and Brandt Snedeker fly the flag for the USA youth, whilst the Brits including Ian Poulter, Luke Donald and Justin Rose boast five of the world’s top ten positions and seasoned veterans, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickselson and the possibly surprising, Ernie Els have all got their head in the game. No one will be more deter-

mined than Ernie, despite playing 18 consecutive Masters since 1994 as a result earning six top 10s there, including a pair of runner-up finishes, the veteran golfer didn’t qualify for the Masters a year ago or receive a special invitation, an outcome he was not best pleased with; expect him to be in it to win it this year and put the youngsters in their place. It’s been an excellent year so far for American Brandt Snedeker; playing five tournaments, making all five cuts and finishing in the top five each time with two runner-up finishes, one third place and one win… will he make it two? One of the best ball strikers in the game, Ian Poulter finished in seventh place last year, but this year he’s after

the number one position. Every few years he shows us just how good of a putter he is, and this could just be one of those years, maybe he should start considering what colour plaid pants will complement a green jacket! Then there is Tiger, if he nabs the title he will be only one short of tying with Jack Nicklaus as the most successful Masters Champion but injury, scandal and controversy affected his game following his last Masters success. However with two wins already in the 2013 season is Tiger back in the game? With a year of uninterrupted health, a record that’s unmatched by any other player and an unrivalled knowledge of the course, this year, the ball is in Tiger’s court.

“The winner of this tournament doesn’t just win a major. He becomes a part of the history of the game, and that’s what excites me. This tournament creates something that is very special, and year in year out, history is made here.” Phil Mickelson 77

njoying a privileged location in the heart of the Golden Mile, Masala is the Coast’s latest addition to its ever-growing repertoire of high-quality Indian eateries. Just like its excellent sister restaurant in Estepona, Marbella Masala maintains a superior quality of food throughout its extensive menu and is well served by its extremely courteous and helpful staff. When visiting an Indian restaurant, I like to leave the choice of dishes in the hands of the staff, who often know a lot more than I do about the right combination of flavours and possibilities. We started with a tandoori mushroom, which had been cooked to a delicate consistency in the tandoor oven and was delicately accompanied by a light yoghurt raita. I would combine raita with almost everything on the menu if I could; it´s beautifully fresh and cooling taste always brings the best out of the spice and strength of the base flavours of Indian cooking. We were also offered a prawn puri as a starter. Lightly spiced prawns in a fresh coriander-based paste were served on a soft puri bread; the soft flavours here were the perfect way to start our journey of spice with just enough subtlety that left us wanting to continue. Never peak too soon at a curry house! The main event followed and we were lucky enough to try a vast combination of chicken dishes. Perennial favourites korma and tikka masala were cooked to perfection and could also be served with

COSTA CUISINE

lamb or vegetable for a bit of variety. Veering off the beaten track, we sampled a banno kebab containing succulent chicken pieces covered with the wonderful cheese-based paneer and marinated in yoghurt and special herbs, perfect for those with more of a heat-shy palate. The highlight for me was the garlic chilli chicken, which had been battered in garbanzo flour and cooked with garlic and sweet chilli sauce to create a strong but well balanced dish that was hearty and satisfying, All of this was accompanied with some beautiful kulcha onion bread, a great alternative to the sometimes Naan-bread and a perfect way to mop up the amazing amalgamation of different curry sauces. Finally we cleansed our palates with some pistachio kulfi; the Indian version of ice cream, that had been given some extra zing with a liberal dash of fresh ginger and was the ideal way to digest and freshen up after such a heady of mice of spice and aroma. Masala also offers a take away and home delivery service for those who want to enjoy it´s culinary delights in the comfort of their own home. A tikka TV dinner; the perfect evening in. COMIC RELIEF SHOW Youngsters helped to raise 750 euros for Comic Relief after taking part in a talent show at the British School of Marbella last Friday. Around 70 pupils took part in the two hour event which saw acts including a Punch and Judy show, piano solos and hip hop dances. Staff also got into the fundraising spirit by putting on a surprise rendition of Gangnam Style for parents and pupils. More than 100 parents packed the school hall to watch the show which also saw teachers Mrs Yarwood and Miss Chalmers go head to head in a jelly eating competition.

Children paid a euro to dress in their normal clothes as well as holding a cake sale and raffle to help raise the cash. Sian Kirkham, headmistress at the school, said: “Pupils proved that BSM truly has talent while raising money for an extremely important cause. Well done everyone.” Comic Relief is a fundraising event held every other year that raises vital funds for poor and vulnerable people in the UK and Africa. To see a video of the performances at the school visit bsm.org.es

TAKE ME HOME This is Kloe and one of our younger volunteers, as you can see she is very gently and loving with children. Kloe is a Husky-cross, about 12 months old and weighs around 13 Kilos. She was found abandoned with her sibling in the campo in a very poor condition, starving, and scared, luckily she was rescued and taken to FAMA who nursed her back to health. She is a good girl, has a lovely nature, loves to play and go for walks. She has no issues with other dogs, and is very well behaved in public. She would love a home and family of her own! If you would like to meet her in person or receive more information, please contact Pat. Tel. 620 354 885 or visit our website: famaspain.com

SENIOR TENNIS TOURNAMENT The Puente Romano Tennis Club celebrated its IV interspring Senior Open last month. This famed tournament boasts over 60 players from 13 different countries from all over the world. The tournament was presented by the Tournament Director, Rafael Ruiz; Cristina Villalobos, from the Hotel Puente Romano, and Federico Valles from the Marbella Town Hall. The variety of matches filled the courts of this prestigious tennis club with the good weather an enjoyable bonus. Ales Dvorjak (Puente Romano coach), Ulf Rosberg and Juan Alvarez de Toledo took home the singles titles and Ronald Callaghan and Ulf Rosberg were crowned the doubles champions.

FAMA’S policy is to never put a healthy dog down, they have a home with FAMA for life or until they are adopted.

WHEN ONLY THE BEST WILL DO Last month, MC Gourmet Club presented an informative and enjoyable Champagne Tasting event run by Angel Gonzalez, Award-Winning Sommelier of the Marbella Club Hotel. Angel was responsible for selecting the wine list for the iconic Champagne Room and The Grill at the Marbella Club which was recognized as the Best Wine List in Spain in 2012. Angel guided guests through a tasting of four champagnes, some of which were from small producers and very hard to find. The champagnes did include a Blanc de Blanc, a rosé Grand Cru and a very interesting Grand Cru which Angel describes as “like a wild animal with fangs which can be an education for even the most experienced Champagne aficionados.” This has been a highly informative event including a presentation which will teach participants about Champagne, the different types and producers and of course how to taste them to get the most from their flavour. Participants discovered the secrets of the world’s most glamorous drinks and following the tasting, guests were invited to enjoy a glass of champagne and canapés in the opulent Champagne Room.

2013 Sala Beach LoveJuice Weekends 25th May 29th June 27th July 24th August To book beds please contact lifestyle@salabeach.com

In 2012 SOCIETY MARBELLA undertook our largest survey of visitors and residents; gathering information from a cross-section of all age ranges of both tourists and residents. In general the key indicators for the local area look strong, against a Spanish economic outlook that is constantly reported as poor. It would appear we exist within a bubble of prosperity. Tourism drives the area and key indicators look strong for the season, hotel bookings are up, inbound flight schedules are buoyant and the overall perception is that the area is value for money. The highest growth rate was in single people aged 21 – 30 who visit for periods of less than 7 days. Often this is fuelled by specific offerings. Four times this year LoveJuice will transplant thousands to Sala Beach for, as listed on Google, as the “best pool party in the world”. In fact Marbella had two in the top three with Ocean Club also beating Las Vegas, Miami and St Tropez. In addition, Nikki Beach´s annual themed parties also attract masses of international visitors all intrigued by the Nikki Beach worldwide brand.

2013 Nikki Beach Events 25th April – Soft Opening 5th May – First Amazing Sunday 24th May – Sintillate at Nikki Prive 30th May – Season Opening White Party 31th May - Recovery Brunch 1st June – Made in London 15th June – Cuban Mojito Party For reservations please contact reservations.marbella@nikkibeach.com

Sala Beach report that advance bed bookings are up a further 9% this year. The May event only has two left, June, July & August are filling up quickly. While the VIP’s may be booked in, thousands will fly in for these party weekends. Surprisingly when we questioned residents in the same age category misconceptions abounded about “Banus”

from locals. Less than 15% knew that this event wasn’t ticket only and FREE ADMISSION! Okay so the after party at Aqwa Mist costs €20 to enter but you can be sure the stars will be out in force. One thing that residents and tourist agreed on was value for money. It didn’t matter at all what income category or age group, local or visitor the new world financial order doesn’t tolerate “rip offs”. We are seeing locally that excellence at a fair price is excelling and average offerings overpriced are going out of business. As with all resorts Marbella offers the beaches and the climate, but with this area don’t forget to add in the day life and the nightlife, the lakes, La Concha, historical wonders on our doorstep, midnight horseracing – all free. The area is in good shape and getting better. The flyer floating around for LoveJuice says “The Place To Meet” cleverly overwritten by a joker “The Place to Mate. ” Don’t you wish you were 20 years younger and in better shape!

PEREZ LEGAL GROUP Perez Legal Group celebrates new website with special offer on Spanish wills. Perez Legal Group (PLG), Marbella’s leading bi-lingual legal, fiscal and tax team has just launched a brand new website, providing expats with a stylish, easy to use, one-stop-shop packed with legal, fiscal and administrative advice, covering all aspects of living, working and owning property in Spain. To celebrate the launch they are offering clients fifty per cent discount on Spanish wills until the end of March 2013. Raquel Perez, founder and Managing Director of Perez Legal Group, prides herself for having a finger on the pulse of the latest legal, tax and financial news… and now her company’s online presence is bang up to date too. Unlike the usual staid and stuffy legal and accountancy sites, PLG deliberately chose a website design that would be engaging and informative for clients. There is

a cornucopia of information packaged into five sections, covering expat issues, insurance, business (self-employed, Spanish companies), property and personal issues such as tax, health, social security etc. Additional downloadable booklets, notifications of free workshops and seminars (such as the Inheritance tax and Procedures seminar on the 21st March at the Benahavis Town Hall), interviews, blogs and special offers can all be accessed instantly online. With 16 years’ experience of providing a friendly professional bi-lingual service, during the property boom and the more recent economic meltdown, Raquel takes a holistic approach to business; placing equal

importance on the wellbeing of her team and on the quality of service provided. An ethos which has proved successful, as attested by the positive feedback from her many satisfied customers. To take advantage of the Spanish will special offer contact Perez Legal Group and book a free consultation. Tel: 34 952 833 169 info@perezlegalgroup.com Avda.
