The volume examines in detail all the iconographic types of great Byzantine and Russian tradition. Each icon is explained through precise captions accompanied by arrows that select and indicate the detail described. Scrolling the index you go from the Angels to the Patriarchs and the Biblical Prophets, to the protagonists of the Old and New Testament. At the centre the icon of Christ and the Mother of God. Then, in order, the liturgical feasts, the Apostles, the martyrs, the saints of the Greek Orthodox and Slavic traditions. Each theme is treated with a short introductory chapter accompanied by entries in which the feast, the title, the sources, a text of the liturgy or literature that refers to that icon are listed.
