DAN LI Radiation Therapist, Icon Cancer Centre Jiangxian Dan Li is dedicated to creating long-lasting connections with patients and his peers – enabling the best possible patient care. Dan joined Icon China at the end of October 2019 as the Radiation Therapy Team Leader of the Icon Cancer Centre in Jiangxian and became a Senior RT certified by Icon Group in 2022, responsible for new staff training and assessment. In addition to establishing a good connection with patients, Dan cooperates and communicates well with department leaders and colleagues in daily work and selflessly imparts his skills and experience to the other two technicians in the cancer centre, establishing a follow-up echelon of radiotherapy technicians. In July this year, Dan was assigned the Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) audit. The IGRT audit is a weekly process conducted at all Icon China sites, allowing for consistency and quality of RT practice. The Clinical Care RT team traditionally ran this across Australia and New Zealand. Dan’s key involvement was supporting the transition of audit responsibility from the Clinical care RT team to RT leaders across Icon’s China centres. This contributed to the ongoing development of clinical skills and the formalisation of collaborative networks between our sites within Mainland China. Dan took a lead role in developing training content and partnered with other RT leaders to ensure their understanding of the auditing workflow. He has further contributed by having continued oversight of staff engagement with the audit process - a significant factor in the success of this transition, evidenced by both audit compliance and audit outcomes to promote ongoing quality improvement. Dan received high praise and valuable feedback from patients and colleagues and is a valuable asset to Icon China.

DAVID CHADWICK

BEN JONES

Quality Assurance Manager, Compounding Mount Waverley, Victoria

Workflow Planner, Compounding Mount Kuring-Gai, New South Wales

David (or DAC to his team) is the ‘go-to person’ for his teams across Slade Health for everything quality, risk assurance and advice.

Ben possesses a unique ability to think creatively and proactively - always searching for innovative solutions to challenges that arise, even if they are out-of-scope of his responsibilities.

David has recently finished a secondment role as the Quality Operations Manager - ANZ and has now stepped into another secondment as the Quality Assurance Manager. He has seamlessly stepped into these two roles and provides a wealth of knowledge to both teams.

There’s a strong consensus across the team at Mount KuringGai that if you’re ever in a difficult spot, you can rely on Ben to drop what he is doing and help the team to the best of his ability – and it’s always to a high standard.

One of his standout accomplishments, when he stepped into a manager role, was facing auditors during a challenging audit. It is no small feat, but David rose to the occasion with grace and professionalism. Furthermore, he helped the Quality management team refocus critical priorities while finding efficient methods to close out and handle quality events. What truly sets David apart is his exceptional talent for risk assessment. Whether dealing with compounding processes, quality management challenges, or any operation – his remarkable ability to assess risks and make informed decisions has helped mitigate potential issues, solve critical problems and navigate complex challenges. Beyond his flare for risk management, David actively connects with his colleagues, whether it be to provide guidance, training or even a supporting ear. He is always willing to share knowledge and provide constructive feedback to his team to guarantee the best results.

In late 2022, Ben stepped into the workflow planner role during an intensely busy time. With only minimal last-minute training and preparation, Ben hit the ground running. Despite the pace at which he and the team had to work, Ben’s commitment to quality and support to his team is unwavering. Ben keeps the workflow of production organised and smooth, keeping his team encouraged and informed to manage workloads, giving great advice to compounding technicians, helping in the cleanrooms, and effectively supporting the team on top of their training. He exemplifies positive leadership. Ben’s collaborative spirit, management style and willingness to share knowledge have created a more connected and productive work environment at Mount Kuring-Gai, where team members feel supported and encouraged to excel. He is a much-loved member of the team.

David’s dedication, versatility, and problem-solving prowess make him an outstanding member of the organisation. His ability to step up to significant challenges, provide expert guidance, and contribute to our ongoing success is truly remarkable – leading to continued success for the business.

JANE HANSEN

JANE STOLL

Deputy Director of Pharmacy, Epic Pharmacy Northern Beaches, New South Wales

Pharmacy Technician Team Leader, Epic Pharmacy Warragul, Victoria

Jane brings a strong sense of care and compassion to her role at Epic – always looking to make her colleagues’ lives easier and produce the best patient outcome – ‘the unsung hero’.

To her team, three Cs describe Jane – caring, considerate, and a champion – always helping her team and promoting the team’s wellbeing, fostering positive relationships and being committed to providing the best possible treatment for patients.

As Deputy Director, Jane supports her team through rostering, management and strategic direction. Despite being busy with her director duties at a full-scale hospital, Jane is always helping her team ‘on the tools’ with her regular clinical roster. Though being a leader did not come naturally to Jane, being a mentor did. Jane’s in-depth knowledge, growth mindset and focus on patient-centred care have made her a perfect fit for a senior management position - with the overwhelming sentiment from her team recognising Jane’s clinical expertise but deeply valuing her ability to always be there for them, without judgment and providing support. To help her team and patients have the best possible experience, Jane has implemented several process improvements, such as re-working the clinical roster to improve efficiency and increasing the time available to train new team members, providing confidence and a sense of belonging from the beginning. Though her clinical expertise is exceptional, Jane’s greatest strength is her care for her team and wanting to see them flourish – making her an exceptional leader and mentor at Epic Pharmacy.

Jane has been with Epic Pharmacy Warragul for 12 years and recently stepped into Pharmacy Technician Team Leader. While playing a crucial role in managing the Warragul technician team, Jane fosters powerful customer relationships with West Gippsland and Neerim South hospitals and leads day infusion medications to the West Gippslands infusion clinic. Jane’s commitment to her stakeholders sets her apart, and her proactive and energetic approach has created a strong sense of trust. This is due to Jane’s manner of listening to understand different stakeholder needs, leading to her being able to identify, create and implement solutions. When the Neerim South nursing team requested Jane to provide a simplified order form, she provided examples of what was currently available. When it was discovered these did not meet the hospital’s needs, she worked with them to develop a bespoke solution, leading to better efficiencies for the team. Jane’s commitment to connection and better solutions has led to positive feedback from local hospitals, better patient solutions and stronger relationships and trust for Epic Warragul.

Jessie spends her days helping patients through their cancer treatment, whether it’s uplifting their mood or carefully explaining their treatment plans – she provides comfort and confidence in their time of need. She provides exceptional care in carrying out her duties with her commitment going beyond the daily checklists. She embraces her patients with her warm and nurturing nature, keeping them well-informed throughout their treatment journey. A patient recently took the time to reach out to the Icon Mount Elizabeth team to share how Jessie had created a truly comfortable experience during their chemotherapy treatment. Jessie took care of their every need, taking the time to explain the treatment plan, never letting a question go unanswered, and providing them with a constant to rely on and not to feel too overwhelmed by the process. Put simply, she is there for every twist and turn in their journey, delivering care well beyond expectations. Jessie’s positivity and helpfulness do not go unnoticed - the team at Mount Elizabeth appreciates her iconic approach and finds her a delight to be around.

Page 16

Over the past year, Calyn led or contributed to several new or upgraded equipment projects and new treatment technique implementations. Earlier this year, Icon Cancer Centre Rockingham welcomed a second linear accelerator, a significant milestone for the region and the centre. Calyn was the primary contact and lead for this project, working closely with the project and physics teams to commission the machine on time, enabling patients to be treated closer to home. Further, he also worked on commissioning the Respiratory Gating for Scanners (RGSC) unit on the PET-CT at Rockingham and was part of the RadMachine QA database implementation project team. For anyone, this would be a significant body of work in a year, but Calyn’s positive attitude, energy, and willingness to share his knowledge and support the whole team to use the technology created the successful foundation for these projects, which are now benefiting our patients. Calyn continues to impress his team at Rockingham with his enthusiasm, dedication, skill and determination. They look forward to working alongside him as they continue to create positive outcomes for their community.

CASSIE O’BRIEN

EDWIN LUU

Site Manager, Icon Cancer Centre South Brisbane, Queensland

Clinical Lead Radiation Therapist, Icon Cancer Centre Springfield, Queensland

Cassie has been an integral part of the Icon South Brisbane team for several years, and her outstanding leadership and the energy she brings have left an incredible mark on not only the immediate team but across the network.

Edwin is an enthusiastic leader and mentor to the radiation therapists team at Springfield – taking the time to mentor his team while still providing exceptional patient care.

One of Cassie’s most significant achievements this year has been her determination to build relationships with referrers and doctors, which has been instrumental in strengthening our network and Icon’s growth. This includes her establishment and exemplary management of an innovative haematology journal club for specialists, hours of participation in weekend and afterhours events (with a willingness to assist with cleanup efforts afterwards!), and the pivotal role she played in piloting Icon’s Doctor App. As part of the project team, Cassie facilitated more than 40 referrals to centres across the country while feeding back process improvement ideas and knowledge to support a national rollout. This drive to support new initiatives comes from her passion to try new things and go over and above to ensure our doctor experience keeps improving. Cassie brings her positive and supportive energy inwards to the team she leads at Icon South Brisbane, demonstrated by her initiatives like “dress up for Barbie day”, fundraising events for Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day and Biggest Morning Tea, decorating the clinic for the Brisbane Broncos and Brisbane Lions semi-finals, and mentoring colleagues through opportunities to act in higher duties.

Within his role, Edwin leads a team and manages an increasing patient load at a single-machine location. He creates and fosters a positive work environment while teaching, educating and developing the skills of current and new team members. Edwin is still working on the tools in radiation therapy - currently looking after 36-40 patients per day. Edwin only stepped up to a Clinical Lead earlier this year, and despite being hit with many challenges, including an increase in patient numbers and 80% new team members, he’s taken it in his stride and provides the best possible care. He empowers his team to be the best versions of themselves and for their patients. Edwin takes on any task or challenge with positive, can-do energy and is a valuable asset to the Icon Springfield team.

Cassie’s determination to explore new avenues, such as the Journal club and the Doctor App, highlights her passion for Icon’s success. Her energy is infectious, elevating everyone around her and contributing significantly to our doctor engagement in Queensland.

GEORGINA SMART

Pharmacy

TAMMY MCHARDY

Marketing Specialist (Pharmacy and Compounding), Marketing and Communication, Queensland

Pharmacy Technician, Epic Pharmacy St Andrew’s Toowoomba, Queensland

Coming on board in 2022 to lead the marketing for Pharmacy and Compounding, Georgina’s warmth and desire to embed herself as part of the divisional team enabled strong connections to enhance and benefit our pharmacy, compounding and research network. Georgina worked extensively to understand and gain insight into the complexity and uniqueness of Icon’s pharmacy and compounding operations, then followed this through with ideas and opportunities to improve marketing outcomes in their respective, highly competitive markets.

Tammy is known for forging onwards and upwards – all with a happy demeanour and doing everything she can to help patients and her team.

This has resulted in the execution of an enormous body of work, delivered successfully, time and time again. For pharmacy, she developed the Pharmacy Practice Unit’s statement of capability and a broader suite of supporting materials, established an important customer satisfaction survey including a net promoter score (NPS) tool that will help define service improvement for both patients and customers, and drove a recruitment marketing campaign that saw 30 applicants in its first week. She also led two new website launches for both Epic and Slade. For Compounding, Georgina managed the opening communication and events for Auckland and Woodville facilities, developed a new suite of sales marketing material to support new market conversations, and revitalised the social media channels in line with business priorities.

During recent times of turbulence, accompanied by the COVID demands on teams and workloads, including Toowoomba Hospital sending their overflow patients, Tammy rose to the challenge and put in immense effort to help her team through. Additionally, she played an integral part of the work with the Enterprise Agreement negotiation this year and in previous years.

Tammy has spent over 15 years at Epic Pharmacy, St Andrews Hospital Toowoomba and is continuously committed to improving herself and patient outcomes. She has vast experience working in oncology and is the go-to person for many for knowledge and advice – which she shares happily.

Tammy is a flexible and approachable worker - always assisting others, helping teams stay on task and making sure they enjoy their work while maintaining high levels of service to the hospital in Toowoomba.

When asked to extend her support to Icon’s research team, Georgina didn’t hesitate in establishing a central collateral ordering process to ensure research was promoted consistently to stakeholders. The quantity and, importantly, the quality of Georgina’s work is truly iconic, where no request is too big or small for her to see if it delivers value for her divisional team. Georgina’s energy and commitment are reflected in the high regard and respect her stakeholders have extended to her in her time here, and a testament to the value she brings to Icon.

A general day for Casey is anything but “general”. As a reliever pharmacist for Sydney, Casey’s role varies, working across different pharmacy sites and often receiving short notice on roster changes and sites to cover, including in the ACT. These jobs that arise can often come with little handover or direct support – but that does not stop Casey from excelling. Casey provides sincere gratitude and comfort to his sites. This attitude comes from Casey’s genuine love for his role and work team, as well as broadening his experience and developing himself as a pharmacist. Casey’s energy and dedication to his work and teams have helped many of our pharmacy sites across Sydney, making him a well-loved member of Epic Pharmacy.

She brings abundant energy and has recently co-launched the Greenslopes Gazette, a monthly newsletter to inform patients of what is happening. Chelsea gets everything done efficiently at an extremely high level of quality whilst still being able to support junior team members. Chelsea is an integral part of Icon Greenslopes, and the entire team value her contribution to both patient care and team morale and development.

Ian commenced as Cancer Care Coordinator in 2023 and has been pivotal in establishing the role within the centre and, more broadly, engaging with local health care providers to benefit patients. In particular, Ian has been passionate about engaging services and supports for patients with complex diagnoses and treatment regimens requiring dedicated cancer care coordination. From the moment Ian began, he has built strong relationships with everyone in the Midland team and has fostered connections across health services in Western Australia to benefit patients. Ian has contributed to key processes that make accessing the support of the Cancer Care Coordinator easy for staff and patients, including developing a referral framework, patient data collection process, reporting tools, appointment types and referral pathways. He has also single-handedly created a health service database on a wide range of support services for patients in the local community, empowering any team member to refer a patient easily. Ian has worked tirelessly to enable patients to access timely care, from arranging in-home-care support and patient transport vouchers to donations of bras and breast pillows, as well as being a fundamental part of driving the Midland breast multidisciplinary meeting. Ian is a well-loved member of the team at Midland. His engagement with the team and patients has led to an enormous amount of positive feedback, as well as enhancing patient care and outcomes. . Leading the stability lab team, Larissa has been pivotal in leading the development and validation of up to 11 analytical and cell-based methods per target molecule to support the extension of partial vials and finished product stability. Larissa has proactively stepped up to tackle some challenging production issues this year. Utilising her technical and scientific expertise and resources, Larissa has driven improvements that have had significant positive impacts on production and customers. This includes her work on defining the root cause of slow-flowing infusion devices and supporting the validation of an alternate device, improving the data support for sanitiser efficacy, and validating of syringe mixing methodologies, all critical to meeting our regulatory obligations. Larissa has exceptional analytical and organisational skills and an unwavering commitment to scientific excellence; these traits, combined with her focus on providing better patient outcomes drives the success of the stability lab, which will enable Slade Health to be a leader in this field with the ability to help more patients now and well into the future.

ANTHONY BYDEVELDT

PANG SZEE ONG

Lead Developer, Information and Technology

Deputy Director of Pharmacy, Epic Pharmacy Hollywood, Western Australia

Anthony is committed to discovering innovative approaches to streamline workflow for our frontline staff – helping them focus on providing the best possible care.

Pang is the changemaker whiz at Epic Hollywood – modernising the workplace with new digital technology and finding the best way to do things, with data to back it.

Anthony led the development of the nurse dashboard module of Chart Flow. This required developing an authentication process so hospital nursing staff could be authorised to send and track pharmacy orders from the ward.

Pang’s goal in his role is to help make the work of his team members at a large pharmacy site more efficient. To achieve this, he has introduced new ways of working and made key content more easily accessible - digging deep into reporting, analysis and investigation to understand the flow of inventory and work to help make sound decisions.

As the pilot implementation site, Epic Pharmacy Murdoch has seen a significant decrease in phone inquiries and an increase in efficiency since the commencement of the application. It has enhanced operational efficiency by enabling better collaboration with hospital partners who have highly commended the application for its ability to track order statuses, add notes, and send orders directly from the ward. An improvement in patient care has also been observed, with nursing teams being able to submit medication orders after pharmacy hours, ensuring they are queued for dispensing the following day. Due to the success, the module will be rolled out across all pharmacy locations. This will result in an improved, efficient service model and support Icon Group pharmacies as a preferred provider for hospital pharmacy services.

One key implementation he made is the team’s use of SharePoint. His new set-up has allowed all team members to access critical documents and applications they need in one place. This allows live inventory data and on-the-go access for a large team, reducing inefficiencies and inaccuracies. Pang’s innovative nature comes down to his passion for his team members – wanting to make their jobs easier and more enjoyable. His innovative mindset makes him a great asset to his team and Epic Pharmacy.

Anthony’s innovation is exceptional and has helped make the lives of our nurses easier, allowing them to focus on the most essential thing – caring for their patients.

Anita is a dedicated leader and mentor, using her passion and drive to empower teams around her to excel in their roles and beyond.

Stuart is passionate about placing patient care above anything else – working tirelessly to create stronger connections and deliver exceptional care.

Stepping into the Senior Financial Controller role with Slade Health a year ago, Anita immediately showed her dedication and desire to understand the compounding operations – diving into its complexities, costs and current customer contractual arrangements. Over this time, Anita has built numerous business cases, analysed PBS data and successfully delivered the FY24 budget, no mean feat for someone so new to the division.

Stuart works at Epic Lismore but branches out to help the local area, being the sole pharmacist at the Tweed Hospital site. He delivers services directly to the hospital’s patients and liaises with the clinical team there. In his time, he has developed a good relationship with the staff – especially the nursing team - and helped streamline processes to guarantee the timely delivery of medications to patients. This helps patients by not forcing them to travel more often than needed – with some patients spending hours travelling to their appointments. Stuart understands the stress this can cause, so he does what he can to deliver the best possible care.

Beyond the hours spent building a deep and accurate understanding of compounding, Anita has contributed to developing Icon’s Environment Sustainability and Governance (ESG) framework across the planet pillar. Her passion for the environment and belief that everyone can play a crucial role in reducing emissions has seen Anita commit countless hours of her own time to understand ESG and apply her data analysis skills to clearly articulate how Icon could approach a reduction in harmful emissions. This work sits well outside Anita’s every day, demonstrating her deep commitment to not only nurturing those around her but also the planet.

Stuart flies’ solo much of the time, but he takes it in his stride and actively solves an endless list of tricky questions. He is a massive help with the smooth running of the Tweed site, always caring and putting the patient and patient care first. He is a vital member of the hospital and pharmacy teams working to improve the processes so that teams can get their work done efficiently – making him a valuable asset to the team.

An engaged and invested leader, Anita takes time to mentor her team. Her patience and approach to teaching are the driving force behind the team’s professional growth. Both hospitals are large, with a high volume of diverse patients. However, as a patient, you would never know, as everyone is given personalised, nurturing support tailored to their individual needs. 2023 has been an enormous year for these teams, with both sites working extended hours to accommodate an ever-growing workload and several technology changes. Throughout it all, their profoundly positive attitude and commitment to care meant the focus on patients never wavered, and they successfully supported each other while implementing changes to advance patients’ healthcare now and into the future. When the new TrueBeam was installed at GCUH, the radiation therapists, medical physicists, nurses & admin officers worked extended hours, enabling it to be commissioned efficiently. Its positive impacts are far-reaching, with the site averaging over 100 patients across the two machines at GCUH per day and 28+ at Gold Coast Private with a high stereotactic treatment workload. During this time, the radiation therapists also supported all disciplines to transition clinical software from Mosaiq to ARIA. However, the sheer depth of learning and challenges did not stop them from providing the best care possible. The high patient numbers across the Gold Coast radiation oncology sites saw the nursing team going above and beyond for every patient, regardless of how busy they were on any given day. It is not unusual for each nurse to have more than 20-30 patient encounters a day, which requires incredible triaging of symptoms and treatment of side effects to ensure the patient’s care is not compromised. And at the front of all this is a warm team of admin officers who deliver the utmost professionalism despite the stress.

Cancer Care AU/NZ

Icon Cancer Centre Mildura, Victoria Despite being a relatively new team, Icon Mildura goes the extra mile to smash goals and ensure patients receive the best care closer to home, as proven by the ongoing positive patient feedback. Even before the centre opened, every team member demonstrated their passion, dedication, and drive to give the best possible experience to each patient. Radiation oncology was relatively new to many of the nurses and admin officers in the Mildura team, so the radiation therapy team went the extra mile, starting early and finishing late to ensure their colleagues understood everything needed to be confident and capable of delivering and supporting treatments. There is no doubt the team worked exceptionally hard to open the Mildura centre with a bang – and boy, did it open with a bang! A single machine site, Mildura went from going live to treating 35 to 45 patients per day in less than a month. The small team took this in their stride and managed to plan and treat onsite with minimal support. Their connection to each other and the community drives this exceptional result and why patients will continue to choose Icon. While learning and finding their feet, the team displayed Icon’s values in interacting with each other and their patients. Since the very first patient, the team has strived to make sure that every person has the best possible experience during one of the most challenging times in their life. Feedback from patients has shown the Mildura team has achieved that and more. The collective energy of this team is impactful on all those around them, and they have had an Iconic first year of operation.

Woodville Project Team (Project Haighes), South Australia The Woodville Project Team, or ‘Project Haighes,’ has masterfully turned a three-year strategic vision into a remarkable reality, significantly enhancing national compounding capacity. Their efforts of working together have not only advanced our network of facilities but have also established a critical local compounding presence in South Australia, in direct service to SA Health and 23 public hospitals, helping us provide more opportunities for care in South Australia. In February 2022, they took handover of a brand-new Brownfield warehouse, marking the beginning of an ambitious project that the Woodville team has brilliantly brought to fruition. Their meticulous attention to detail in the design and construction phases is reflected in the seamless integration and functionality of the facility that is operational today. This accomplishment was further solidified by a rigorous phase of commissioning and validation, ensuring that every aspect of the operation met the highest standards of excellence. The result was an endorsement from the TGA, which awarded a manufacturing license to the site in October 2023 – a testament to the team’s outstanding dedication to quality and compliance. To coincide with the facility’s licensing, in-depth operational planning was in full motion, with a workforce of over 25 people recruited and trained to transition volumes from our Melbourne facility to the Woodville site over the next quarter. These operational achievements are a testament to all involved for collaborating to achieve significant outcomes, positioning Slade Health to maintain our exceptional reputation of quality and service to the state of South Australia.
