FALLEN PRINCE: THE NUTCRACKER - REIMAGINED
Since 2009, Goh Ballet has presented The Nutcracker, setting a tradition for Vancouver to embrace. A professional large-scale production under the artistic vision of former Principal Dancer of The National Ballet of Canada, Chan Hon Goh, the impact of The Nutcracker has been tremendous, bringing internationally renowned dance superstars, local artists, dancers and musicians together.
2020, the twelfth year of the production, saw many challenges for Goh Ballet and with many restrictions due to the pandemic, it was obvious that The Nutcracker would not be able to come back as a live performance in front of thousands of people in the theatre. In an effort to keep the tradition alive, Goh Ballet collaborated with their sponsor partners RBC, Westbank Corp. and Oakridge, with the concept of a virtual rendition of an original dance story on film. Alex, a 20-year-old struggling dancer in Vancouver, separated from his family during the lockdown, spends the pandemic ridden winter in isolation and is forced to re-examine everything that was once familiar and is no longer. Will the “Fallen Prince” be able to continue his pursuit of a career in the world of ballet? Resonating with many who have experienced challenges, hardships and change as a consequence of the global pandemic, this film stands for human courage, resilience and empowerment as we navigate through these unique times.
Executive Producer, Chan Hon Goh collaborated with awarding winning director Lukas Dong and released the film for exclusive preview screening from Dec. 18 to January 2. In case you missed it: “Fallen Prince” will be entering international film festivals in 2021. An inspirational way to celebrate Canadian artists with compelling stories. Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker will be presented live at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver in December 2021. www.GohNutcracker.com
