WHO THE FRAK IS RON D. MOORE? Deeply rooted in the sci-fi genre, Ronald D. Moore got his start in the entertainment business on the writing staff of Star Trek: The Next Generation. During his tenure there, he wrote or co-wrote 27 episodes, including the two-hour series finale All Good Things, for which he won a Hugo Award in 1994. In 1994, Moore joined the writing staff of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as supervising producer and was elevated to co-executive producer the following year. Moore spent five seasons on the series until the end of its successful run in 1999. Moore also served briefly as Executive Consultant on USA Cable’s series Good vs. Evil before joining the staff of Roswell as executive producer. After two seasons in that post, he took over the reins as showrunner from creator Jason Katims in its final year. In the fall of 2002, Moore was named show-runner and executive producer of HBO’s critically-acclaimed one-hour drama Carnivale. In 2003, Moore created the re-imagined series, Battlestar Galactica and served as Showrunner/Executive Producer of the series which ran for four seasons. Battlestar was honored with a prestigious Peabody Award and twice as an official selection of the AFI (American Film Institute) top television programs for 2005 and 2006. In 2006, Ron was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Writing in a Dramatic Series, and in 2008, he won an Emmy for the Battlestar Galactica webisodes. In 2008, Moore co-wrote the pilot to the spin-off series Caprica, a drama set fifty-eight years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, and currently serves as executive producer for the series.

I-CON AWARDS & BANQUET

Each year I-CON holds the Awards Banquet honoring guests for outstanding achievements in their field or genre. This year, we are pleased to announce that the Awards Banquet will be held once again at the Holiday Inn Ronkonkoma on Saturday evening March 27, 2010 starting at 5:30pm. Many of the guests will be there especially the honorees. The banquet is a served buffet with such entrees as herb chicken, flank steak, vegetable lasagna, salmon with butter dill sauce and penne a la vodka. The meal will also include salad, potato, vegetables and dessert. There will be a cash bar but the soda is free. The tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for children under 12. They will be available shortly online and also at the box office. If you wish to buy tickets when you send in your membership, just include a separate piece of paper specifying “banquet tickets” with your name(s) and the number of tickets. You can include the amount in the same check. Your tickets will be available to you when you pick up memberships at pre-reg. If you are staying at the Holiday Inn, you will have time to relax afterwards so that you can enjoy the Masquerade which will begin at 10pm. Or, there will be shuttle buses to take you back to the campus to enjoy more I-CON programming! Either way, an exciting evening and who knows...you may even meet your favorite guest one on one in the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. About I-CON I-CON P.O. cosplay contest Cosplay is a perennial anime convention favorite. See your fellow con-goers dressed up as your favorite characters from any genre! If you have yet to see one live, make sure you make it to the I-CON 29 Cosplay Competition! If you want to have your costume judged but don't have a skit idea, then the Cosplay Fashion Show is for you! The Cosplay Fashion Show will take place right after the Cosplay Contest, prior to the awards ceremony. If you just want to cosplay around the convention areas and have no intention of participating in

either contest, you do not need to register. Cosplay is being used here to refer to the onstage contest or fashion show, not cosplaying in general. Entries are judged for craftsmanship & presentation. This is our Saturday night stage event. Craftsmanship judging sessions are not open to public viewing. For questions, please e-mail the Cosplay Contest Coordinator at: animelive@iconsf.org. Keep an eye on the I-CON 29 webpage for our judging applications!

FOR THOSE WHO MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT COSPLAY, the basic gist is that it's a fun event in which the entire purpose is to dress in costume and show your talent! You and your friends have the opportunity to make costumes, perhaps do a little skit for added interest, and show it all off to hundreds of other people. Best of all, you have the opportunity to win sweet prizes – all for the cost of a regular Icon admission! We're taking steps to make sure that this year's Cosplay is bigger and better than ever, so get started on those costumes and join us for all the fun, excitement and drama sure to ensue!

Anime Idol The time has almost come. Hope everyone has been practicing and getting ready for I-CON 29's second year of Anime Idol! Do you think you have talent? Do you love singing your favorite songs from your favorite anime/video games and want to show you have what it takes? Then Anime Idol is for you! For those who don't yet know, Anime Idol is a singing competiton that will take place on Saturday and Sunday of the convention with auditions via online. Further information pertaining to online auditions are on the website for your convenience. Do not hesitate! Slots are still open and awaiting your entry! Get those voices warmed up because there will be fantastic judges and great prizes for those who rank highest in English and Japanese.

AMV contest For those of you that don't know an AMV is an acronym for *A*nime *M*usic *V*ideo. In its purest form an AMV consists of some anime (Japanese animation) set to a song. However over time AMV's have evolved into a unique new media art form. Just go to youtube.com and search for 'AMV.' You will find thousands of results. AMV's allow for fans to view their favorite shows through the lens of music. AMV's can show a completely new way to look at an old classic, inspire

a fan to seek out something new to watch, or just provide enjoyment. AMV contests allow the editors to show off their hard earned skills to hundreds of fans. This year the contest will allow contestants to submit two AMV's to better show off their skills. Entries are due March 8, 2010. For more rules please consult the full AMV rules on the I-CON site www.iconsf.org. So get down to editing boys and girls, we're looking forward to seeing what you bring to the table!
