Architecture is always a kind of paranoid-critical method to dissolve, descry and describe the grosztstadt (metropolis) we lived in. It appears in theatrical visages: social condenser, form liberated from meaning or a fundamental expression of human culture and collective memory. For me, essentiality part of architecture is rephrasing the relationships in the grosztstadt under the contemporary context. This process is just analogous to projectionist’s duty: condense the contents into the film and reveal them to the spectators. However, this time the theme is about the relationships in grosztstadt.

“VOYEURISTIC GAZE INTERFACE” The “voyeuristic gaze interface” is a physic realization of the integration with fun theory and voyeurism: I will account the person’s emotion alternation as a game to address his attention from the current situation to an unforeseen situation without any non-architecture factors, such as the morality. There are two modes of reaction to this person: first reaction. This person will stay and enjoy this kind of abnormal situation between viewing subject and viewed the subject which I defined as “the abnormal fun.” Second reaction, the “normal one”, person will be attracted by the new situation on the other side in which he already projects himself to the new situation. And he makes a decision to join in the new situation. As he projected himself into the new situation before he walked into it, this person will feel more joviality as he prepared for it.

The center of the project is the most part of the displacement of the relationship. Just image that Mr. A is originally swimming in the pool on the top floor, when he diving for a while he finds there are some pores on the bottom and he can see through, there is a small concert on the other side. The space is a bubble full of events. The pores offer a contradictory situation that it not only offers integrity for each events bubbles, but also provide unavoidable complication for both of them.

Voyeurism is the most motivated relationship rather than any others. The voyerism, as a displacement of the traditional relationship between viewing subject and viewed the subject, offers viewing subject more mental participation by projecting to the gazed subject without any directly guilty feeling. This kind of “abnormal condition “, said by Michel Foucault, is a free way to liberate people from the timidity for imitating others who are already becoming part of a fun situation.

NEW YORKFDR MOMENTS ARGUMENT: When you change the use of something, actually you change the definition of it. This process can be considered as a kind of alienation. In this project, changing the basic use of architecture elements is a new strategy to explore how far we can push the residential architecture. The project is aimed at misusing the regular residential building as an infrastructure and creating divergency zone of private and public. Bring Chinatown people to the riverside and revitalizing by attracting more people outside the Chinatown is the main strategy. Programmatically setting a new relationship among the project, river, FDR and the existing building revives the ordinary order a new potentiality and unfolding new typology.

The architect, who can easily design the complex forms is likely to ignore the latent geometric relationship within the form. However, it is also a reflection of the shortage of knowledge that combination design methodology and application. In this project, I and my team members try to represent a design set up with the established context, the new campus axis, in a rigorous geometric transformation method. The library is a study of singularity. The axis is the sign which has been used as the material of the form transformation. The whole design, the signified one, is the set of interrelated signs which eventually resulted in the final form of the project. The axis and the derivative ones continuously penetrate the process of the project which is more close to the cross and to lines of puppet masters.

The project is based on the learning that the architect can use the controllable methodology and inform the context through accurate analytics geometry.

SITE AND STRATEGY The new campus planning, emphasizes the depiction of the axis, also focusses more attention on the optimization of the transportation system. The inheritance, context one, is directly been applied as the fundamental component of the project. The diagram is more than the process of appearance. It become the emergence of the geometric and continuity. We hope the reproduction of the axis can redefine the absence of the context rather than occupying the site with the mass production of the rational planning.

Geometric Transformation Process

The perpendicular, the parallel, intersection relationship of the lines is the hardpan of the plane geometry, also are the basic methods which compose the interelationship with the axis and the site boundary. The axis and other geometric materials are directly interrelated in the process of the geometric transformation which also is the wish that architect minifies the uncontrollable or irrational factor in the design circuit.

LAYER PLAN

The transformation is a series of converting relationship with the auxiliary line, the evolution of multiple generations. Far from sculpturing, the form is generated from a relatively predictable process which not only focusses more attention to the origin of the design, but also slashes down the potential guinea pigs, the failures.

KARTAL PENDIK- A Ghost Town With Abandoned Factories

THE PARASITE GRADIENT POCHE The poche as an architecture elements is mainly a reflection of the structural relationship between floors. In other words, the poche is a solid recorder of relationships, as a simplified duality mode, the void and the solid. When melting wax meets ice block, the thermology gradient present in the mixture. After wax curdled, it is easy to distinguish where was low thermal power and the opposite: more transparency means less thermal power there was. So, how can we bring the dynamic record system into the architecture is what I concerned.

ECONOMICS

BACKGROUND INTRODUCTION The 2006 Zaha Hadid’s master plan is focusing on turning Katal Pendik Area into a business center. However, the new government already decides chose the Yeniokapi Area as the new business center by 2010 and based on the Zaha’s plan the factories in Kartal Pendik are moving out.

The poche is not just black and white but a gradient. This gradient has been used opportunistically by immigrants with constraints to enhance their individual spaces. Currently the industries that exist at the site are getting pushed out, along with the workers that occupy the area. We predict that by 2020, Kartal Pendik will become a ghost city.

IRON CLOTH CEILING DESIGN, HUNAN UNIVERSITY, D[A]L KOMOREBI | HYPER THREADS WORKSHOP, SUMMER 2010 TEAM WORK | PHYSICAL PART TUTOR: SHAJAY BHOOSHAN, CHIKARA INAMURA

The fabric, which has the unique mechanics characteristic, always appears away from what we suspected. However, with the nCloth system we can execute the acting force analysis rather than design ideally without taking the physical construction into consideration. As for this project, the optimization of the ceiling is swaying under the consideration of the anchors of the interior and the estimated form. About fibre, the surfaces are composed by the modular cable unit. The distribution of the unit is under the instruction of Rhinoscript which aim at optimizing the mechanics with the mechanics characteristic of variability in different cables.

Although the fabric is the foundation of the human activity, due to the lack of crushresistant, it is less opportunity to see the fabric was used in the architects’ design. In this workshop program, we are trying to utilize the Maya’s nClouth system to stimulate the fabric mechanics characteristic, which can offer us a relatively accurate result of the reality. We wish with this method. More fabric can be brought back to the design.

China is in a process of massively upgrading the original areas. Unlike the developed country, this process is a sort of mean of subsistence by exploiting to the lower classes, the middle class and the upper classes squeeze the third estate. This is an inevitable result due to the nationalization of the land. During such an ulterior war, more often than not, people pay little attention to those in quarantine lairage. In this project, I try to design with a deriding tone to indemnify the benefit of the original residents, while coordinating the profit of the government, developers and the new residents.

THE GREAT LEAP FORWARD IN URBAN CONSTRUCTION

In the design, I want to offer the third estate a physical higher Plaza which has community space such as the playground. The middle classes, who are usually consuming a lot, would need a pure transit function plaza. The shade also is a kind of merit, where the middle classes could be leisurely waiting for their mates without sweating in the summer or raining days. However, the subsistence of the third estate is built by the consumption of the middle classes, which is close to the means of mistletoe.
