The development and large scale diffusion of clean energy technologies is a critical component in the responses to climate change, particularly for developing countries that often experience the most severe consequences. From this perspective, the establishment of a Technology Mechanism (TM) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is a milestone and a potentially positive development for global efforts aiming at enhancing action on technology development and transfer for climate mitigation and adaptation. Against this background, this issue paper brings together a number of think pieces that seek to contribute to the process of operationalisation of the TM by making suggestions on how it can address the range of issues and challenges it faces.
