Holtry left Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise January 5 for Craig Hospital, a medical facility that specializes in spinal cord injuries. Holtry was taken via a police-escorted ambulance to Jackson Jet Center for a flight to Craig, where he is undergoing long-term rehabilitation for paralysis from the waist down. Speaking by telephone from his hospital room on January 22, Holtry said, “There’s a reason this is the No. 1 hospital for spinal cord injury rehabilitation. They do a good job of getting

everything ready for you to be released and go back into the world. They’re teaching me to drive a car, get into a plane, and just daily stuff. It’s a lot of work, for sure.” Sounding upbeat and positive, Holtry also said about his rehab regimen, “It’s very structured. They do physical therapy and occupational therapy. I have a wheelchair skills class. It’s great. They do it 9 to 5 every day. It’s a lot of work, but I’m getting much stronger.” There has been a huge outpouring of support for Holtry, who prepared a video in advance of his departure for rehabilitation at Craig; the video was shown at a Boise Police Department news conference a few days prior to Holtry’s flight. Holtry thanked the community, his fellow officers, the paramedics, and his doctors at St. Al’s. He said he has received “a tsunami of love and prayers and wellwishes.” A GoFundMe account set up for Holtry raised more than $75,000 as of January 2, and a fundraiser for him may be held in the future. As of yet, no specifics about the fundraiser have been given. Holtry, a 17-year veteran of the BPD, is uncertain of his release date from Craig. “I’m guessing another 4 to 6 weeks,” he said.
