Feel 20 Years Younger
Is it possible to find the fountain of youth?
Can we really turn back the hands of time?
It might be challenging to find time to care for ourselves in the way we truly need to in our daily lives. What would happen if you were granted the gift of time–the gift to pursue the things you have always wanted to do? That is often the case when people relocate from highly populated areas with lots of traffic and colder climates to less dense areas with a better climate. When people decide to change their lives and relocate to a new destination, they often find the time to pursue a healthier lifestyle and feel much younger.
If the year of COVID-19 has prompted you to reevaluate your lifestyle, it’s never too late to decide to improve your quality of life. Here are some tips to make you feel younger and energized.
Where To Live
Envision the lifestyle you would like to have, and then choose a new destination that allows you to live that life. Maybe it’s near the coast or in the mountains, maybe you’d like to move to the Caribbean. According to Mitch Jacobs, VP of sales and guest relations at The Landings on Skidaway Island near Savannah, “When you are in a warmer climate, you can’t help but feel better. You have so much opportunity to be outside, enjoying things. You can be more active, and it can make you feel a lot younger.”
Active Lifestyle
Changing your behavior yields excellent benefits. When you choose to relocate to a planned amenity community, living an active lifestyle is easy. The developers have included all of the amenities to help you better yourself. In addition to the architectural guidelines and lush landscaping, developers integrate miles of walking trails throughout the community. You can be as active as you would like to be. It’s almost like a summer camp for adults. Your calendar could be packed every day if that’s what you would like.
Stay Socially Active
Being socially active is one of the most important ways to feel young again. In a planned community, it’s really easy to move in and get socially involved. Almost everyone who lives in a planned community comes from somewhere else, so residents are essentially in the same boat. New neighbors are welcomed, and there are often “new neighbors” clubs to meet new friends. You can also meet people by walking around the community and just saying hello! If you have an interest in a particular activity, find a social club that you can join. For example, if you like to play cards, join a card-playing club. If you like bird-watching, you can find others who enjoy the same thing. Just about any activity can be made social. The point is to get out and meet people, and feel younger while doing it.
LET’S GET PHYSICAL
Exercise is very beneficial to the body, mind, and spirit. If you haven’t exercised in a while, don’t worry, you can start slowly. It can be as simple as enjoying a walk or bicycling around a community. If you haven’t played pickleball yet, just wait, you will. It’s the fastest-growing sport among 50+-year-olds, and it is much easier on the knees than tennis. Golf has seen a major resurgence since the pandemic–it’s an easy way to get some exercise while being socially distant. Then there are always water sports–swimming, water aerobics, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Or, maybe sailing is your preference. Once again, get out of the house and start a routine, or just have some fun.
Reconnect With Nature
Another great way to feel younger is to reconnect with your natural surroundings. During the pandemic, national park visits exploded with people wanting to return to nature. Whether it’s a hike in the mountains, a stroll on the beach, or maybe a boat ride around the lake, feeling connected with nature is food for the soul.
Don’t wait! Start living your ideal life today, and you, too, can feel invigorated and younger.
