The Best Places to Live

With tens of thousands of master-planned communities in America, you might ask, how do you come up with a list of America’s 100 Best Places to Live? The answer is that there is no one definitive list, but we’ve researched communities from our readers’ most-desired areas based on survey results. Each year we survey our readers to determine the most popular destinations and amenities. The destinations featured in this special issue are representative of those desires.

Most of our readers are looking to escape high taxes and find a better climate and quality of life. Whether you would like to move to the mountains or the coast or even internationally, the communities in this issue should help give you ideas of where you might want to live.

The housing market has exploded over the past two years, and inventory levels remain at all-time lows. As many of our readers are 18 to 24 months from relocating, the real estate market is sure to change again. But now is the perfect time to decide where you would like to live. Even if you are a year or more away from making the move, it might be a good time to start with your home plans or getting under contract as the average time to build a new home is between nine to 15 months. If you are looking to purchase an existing home, you might still need to place bids on multiple properties. The market does show signs of softening with the increasing interest rates, but demand is still very high. However, the most important thing to think about is improving your quality of life.

It is our hope that you will read about these location and the lives of people who have relocated and that you will get out and visit these amazing cities and masterplanned developments to find your ideal life.

Your home is more than just shelter from the elements. It’s a scrapbook of past memories and a blank page for new stories. It’s where board game winning streaks are broken, family recipes are passed down to the next generation, and solo music acts become not-so-solo.

Your home is an endless library to a lifetime of memories. Write your next story.
