The Silver State has way more to offer than the largest deposit of this muchloved metal and possible alien landings. Not only is it considered the entertainment capital of America, it has more mountain ranges than any other state. From the glittering lights of Las Vegas to epic scenery and outdoor adventure galore, Nevada should be high on the list of states to visit.
There is a wide selection to choose from when it comes to award-winning retirement communities in Nevada. Reno in the northern part of the state allows for easy access to resort areas around Lake Tahoe, the Sierras, and Sacramento. As one of the most tax-friendly states for retirees in the country, Nevada also offers stunning national parks such as Valley of Fire State and Red Rock Canyon. Historic towns offer a vibrant cultural scene and culinary delights to satisfy the most adventurous foodies. The state's capital, Carson City on the banks of the beautiful Lake Tahoe, is surrounded by the Sierra Nevada mountains and is a great starting point for an exploration of this gorgeous state.
Resources and Recreation
Climate Recreation Opportunities
The diversity of its weather almost matches the diversity of Nevada’s landscape. Luckily, hot summers take up way more of the year than the brief winter of two or three months that supplies the much needed snow for prime skiing resorts. Carson City has the best of everything with an average of only nine inches of rain and 253 days of sun each year.
Resources
Being fondly referred to as the Silver State speaks for itself. Nevada is rich in mineral deposits, particularly gold and silver. The mining industry is a major part of the Nevada economy, in addition to the obvious income from the entertainment capitals of Las Vegas and Reno.
Whether you’re looking for the world-famous glitz of Las Vegas, breathtaking hikes in the Valley of Fire State Park, or on-point skiing in the Ruby Mountains, Nevada has you covered. Take a spin on the world’s largest observation wheel, ride a Venetian gondola, or experience the Fountains of Bellagio in Vegas. Want to be outdoors? Go paddle-boarding, jet skiing, or camping in the popular Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Northern Nevada is also a surprising golf mecca, where the nine courses around Carson City enjoy the splendor of the Sierra as a backdrop. Did you know that as many as 19,000 wild mustangs and donkeys live in Nevada? You may be lucky enough to spot a herd from the Extraterrestrial Highway (State Route 375) or Highway 50 – coined the Loneliest Road in America, or book a wild mustang tour out of Reno. And, if you’re inspired to go underground, visit Great Basin national park, home to the stunning Lehman Caves, hollowed out of limestone and marble around 550 million years ago. Take a tour to witness the spectacular stalactites, stalagmites, and rare formations.
