Generally speaking, Texas has a year-round sunny climate, with an average annual temperature of 65.3°F. Winter can be quite cold in the far north and becomes progressively milder the further south you go. Texas has arid and semi-arid climates in its west and humid and sub-tropical climates in its east.

Recreation

Right in the heart of central Texas is Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, which received its name due to the pink granite "dome" that rises up 425 feet. Raft down the Rio Grande from Berrydale to Rafters' Rest or float along the Guadalupe River and take in the diverse wildlife. With 350-plus miles of coastline, Texas also has sandy beaches, and if you're a horse lover, you're in the right place. Texas is known for its enduring love of the cowboy lifestyle, and riding and rodeo remain popular activities in Texas. You can even ride in downtown Austin, which incidentally held the title of the best city to live in for three consecutive years.
