Blues Destination

Memphis is a major port city on the Mississippi River that's also home to the headquarters and global air hub of FedEx, the area's largest employer. It's also the location of the renowned St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, one of several leading area medical providers that include the Baptist Memorial and Methodist Hospital networks. But Memphis is most famous as the "Home of the Blues," the destination to which musicians from the Mississippi

Delta region migrated to play their authentic made-in-America tunes. The blues music clubs along Beale Street are still a major attraction for visitors and residents, who can also take a short drive south to tour Elvis Presley's Graceland estate. Additional local cultural centers include inspiring displays at the National Civil Rights Museum, visual arts collections at the Brooks and Belz museums, and science exhibits at the Pink Palace Museum and Planetarium.
