Not So Far Away
Why choose Maryland? The question you should be asking yourself is: Why not? Although the state may not be the first that comes to mind when you think of retirement destinations, Maryland boasts a long coastline full of beaches, plenty of sports teams, seafood galore, and unique residents.

0% Median property taxes are around the national average taxation on Social Security Benefits
Reasons abound as to why retirees love Maryland. Maryland has lower income taxes than many other coastal states and doesn’t tax social security benefits. Medical care here is top of the line. It is right outside of D.C. with its museums, monuments, restaurants, and traveling shows. There are two pro football teams and one major league baseball team, so it’s easy to catch a game if you're a fan of either sport. One other great thing about Maryland is their food and beverage industry. Many craft breweries and farm-to-table restaurants make it easy to broaden your palate. Plus, the Chesapeake Bay is perfect for all sorts of beach activities. Maryland simply has it all.
Climate
Maryland has a pretty moderate climate. Its summers hover around the 70s and 80s, while the winter lows fall to about 20° to 30℉. The state has over 200 days of sunshine per year, and it's home to over 150 tree species, making it a great state for gardening.
Health Care
According to U.S. News & World Report, Maryland is in the top 10 states for health care in terms of health care quality and access as well as public health. This state is home to Johns Hopkins Hospital, which is nationally ranked in many adult specialties, as well as numerous regional hospitals.
