Desde la Fundación Academia Europea de Yuste lo que más nos preocupa es la Europa de los valores, de los ciudadanos, de los derechos humanos, del Estado del bienestar; la Europa social que atiende una sanidad universal, una atención preferente a la discapacidad, a la integración de la emigración, a la cultura común de los valores esenciales, respetando las minorías, en suma, una Europa que avance tras los logros conseguidos para que los individuos que la forman no se sientan desprotegidos ante los maremotos ÄUHUJPLYVZ X\L SLZ HZHS[HU ` SVZ KLZHMxVZ H SVZ X\L ZL LUMYLU[HU <UH ,\YVWH que busca y lucha por la paz, la misma que nació tras las hecatombes de las guerras mundiales del siglo XX.

:VTVZ JVUZJPLU[LZ KL X\L HZPZ[PTVZ H \U TVTLU[V KL KPÄJ\S[HK NYHUKL del que aún no vislumbramos la salida. Y es precisamente ahora cuando el diálogo es más necesario que nunca, igual que las miras ante los nuevos desafíos. Y Europa puede y debe ofrecer soluciones. La Fundación Academia Europea de Yuste, entre otros, propugna que la solución a este y otros problemas es más Europa para defender los principios de la identidad europea: primacía de los valores de paz, democracia, respeto por los derechos humanos, prioridad de una economía social de mercado y desarrollo sostenible. 4

Por eso, como dijera S. M. El Rey Don Juan Carlos, en Yuste: “Sin duda, el anhelo de “más Europa” que inspira dicho proyecto, puede interpretarse como un deseo de “más humanidad” con el que nuestros pueblos buscan potenciar su trabajo en común”. Estamos de acuerdo con los más optimistas cuando piensan que para tener futuro en cada uno de los estados europeos, la respuesta es más Europa y modernizar el modelo social que ha hecho de Europa el mayor mercado, el mayor agente comercial y el área de mayor desarrollo social del mundo.

From the European Academy of Yuste Foundation, we are mostly concerned with and strongly support the idea of a value-driven Europe, a citizens´ Europe, a Europe that is committed to human rights and to the defence of the welfare state; a social Europe that provides universal healthcare and pays special attention to the needs of the disabled, the integration of its migrants and the essential values that shape our common culture, while showing respect for minorities. In sum, a Europe that is capable of building on its past HJOPL]LTLU[Z HUK ZOPLSKPUN P[Z JP[PaLUZ MYVT [OL ÄUHUJPHS Z[VYTZ HUK [OL JOHSSLUNLZ [OL` MHJL ( ,\YVWL [OH[ ZLLRZ WLHJL HUK ÄNO[Z [V HJOPL]L P[! El º7YLTPV ,\YVWLV *HYSVZ =» se denomina así por los lazos europeos de éste gran personaje de nuestra historia, nativo de Gante (Bélgica), de abuelos y padres alemanes y españoles, coronado emperador en Aquisgrán y que posteriormente abdicó en Bruselas, renunciando, por otra parte, al poder temporal, retirándose al Monasterio de Yuste, donde pasó los últimos años de su vida. El º7YLTPV ,\YVWLV *HYSVZ =» se otorga por el Patronato de la Fundación Academia Europea de Yuste a propuesta de un Jurado designado por él a tal efecto y compuesto por personalidades de reconocido prestigio en los distintos ámbitos socioculturales de Europa.

Coincidiendo con la entrega del Premio se convocan las Becas Europeas de Investigación y movilidad de estudios europeos º7YLTPV Europeo Carlos V’-Javier Solana Madariaga. Su propósito es promover y fortalecer la investigación en el ámbito de la cultura L\YVWLH ` SHZ YLSHJPVULZ L_[LYPVYLZ KL SH <, el desarrollo y la cooperación. El material de investigación se presentará LU LS º:LTPUHYPV +VJ[VYHS KL ,Z[\KPVZ Pluridisciplinares sobre la Europa Contemporánea’, que se celebrará en Yuste y que permitirá la movilidad de los investigadores y garantizará la publicación del [YHIHQV LU SH JVSLJJP}U º*\HKLYUVZ KL @\Z[L»

The European Academy of Yuste Foundation established the º*OHYSLZ = ,\YVWLHU (^HYK», to distinguish those persons who through their effort and dedication have contributed to a better knowledge and dissemination of [OL J\S[\YHS ZJPLU[PÄJ HUK OPZ[VYPJHS ]HS\LZ VM ,\YVWL HUK VY [V [OL \UPÄJH[PVU VM [OL ,\YVWLHU <UPVU

The º*OHYSLZ = ,\YVWLHU (^HYK» takes its name from that historic character, whose life embodies the bonds among different European countries. Born in Ghent (Belgium) of Spanish and German ancestors, at the age of 20 he was crowned Emperor in Aachen. At the end of his life he abdicated in Brussels, shifting from power to retreat at the Monastery of Yuste, where he spent the last years of his life.

The º*OHYSLZ = ,\YVWLHU (^HYK» is awarded by the Board of Trustees of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation based on [OL WYVWVZHS THKL I` H Q\Y` ZWLJPÄJHSS` designated for this purpose and made up of prestigious personalities from different ,\YVWLHU ZVJPHS HUK J\S[\YHS ÄLSKZ

During the Charles V European Award ceremony, the “Charles V Award-Javier Solana Madariaga” European research and mobility grants for European studies are announced. Their aim is to promote and strengthen research on European culture and [OL ,< Z MVYLPNU YLSH[PVUZ HUK JVVWLYH[PVU HUK development policies. The grants facilitate the researchers´ mobility to prepare their reports, which are subsequently presented at the “Doctoral Seminar on Contemporary European Multi-disciplinary Studies” in Yuste, and also cover the costs of their revised contributions in the “Cuadernos de Yuste” series.

Objetivos

La investigación documental para la preparación de la contribución que debe presentarse en el Real Monasterio de Yuste en el marco de un seminario doctoral.

La movilidad de los investigadores para realizar sus trabajos y desplazarse a Yuste para el seminario doctoral y a la ceremonia de presentación de las investigaciones.

La publicación de la contribución de cada investigador en una obra conjunta que reúna los resultados de la investigación.

Se eligen en función del último premiado. Este año, Javier Solana será la referencia y los temas se desarrollarán en el ámbito de las relaciones L_[LYPVYLZ KL SH <UP}U ,\YVWLH SH JVVWLYHJP}U ` LS KLZHYYVSSV HZWLJ[VZ LU los que tanta importancia ha tenido el premiado a lo largo de muchos años. Las becas se dirigen a jóvenes investigadores de doctorado en el campo de la Historia, Ciencias Políticas, Economía, y otras disciplinas de las ciencias humanas y sociales, así como otras ramas de la ciencia y la cultura.

To cover the costs of preparing a research paper which is subsequently presented within the framework of a doctoral seminar held at the Royal Monastery of Yuste.

To facilitate the researchers´ mobility while preparing their papers and cover their travel expenses to attend the doctoral seminar in Yuste and present their research papers.

Topics The topics are chosen according to the last prize-winner. Between 1982 and 1995 he held several ministerial posts, including the post of Foreign Affairs Minister under Felipe Gonzalez´s Government. El coro ARTE VOCAL nace en Villanueva de SH :LYLUH LS KL Q\UPV KLS JVU LS Ă„U KL interpretar la mĂşsica polifĂłnica y acercarla al mayor nĂşmero de personas posible. Arte Vocal quiere huir de concepciones arcaicas y dar un enfoque moderno a la interpretaciĂłn de la mĂşsica coral, entendiendo ĂŠsta como una forma de expresiĂłn sin lĂ­mites, fundamentada en la calidad sonora y en la vitalidad de sus interpretaciones. A la vez desarrolla una labor formativa de todos sus miembros y organiza un seminario de formaciĂłn bajo el titulo “Taller de ArtesanĂ­a Vocalâ€?. Como parte muy importante de su proyecto coral, en el aĂąo 2003 nace: Arte Vocal Infantil y Juvenil, formado por unos 60 niĂąos. En junio de 2004, presentĂł su innovador proyecto mĂşsico-teatral, “Amaranto, tragedias lorquianasâ€?, en el que los cantores de Arte Vocal se transforman en personajes lorquianos, rompiendo las ortodoxas fronteras interpretativas, experimentando y profundizando mĂĄs en la dimensiĂłn expresiva de un coro. AdemĂĄs de innumerables actuaciones por todo el territorio espaĂąol, Arte Vocal ha viajado a distintos paĂ­ses representando a la mĂşsica coral espaĂąola, como son Chile, Portugal, Italia, Suecia y HungrĂ­a. Han obtenido numerosos reconocimientos, entre los que destaca en Julio de 2009 el mĂĄximo galardĂłn del panorama espaĂąol, el Gran Premio Nacional de Canto Coral y a la vez el premio en la modalidad de Folclore. VOCAL “ARTE VOCAL” MUSICAL AND CULTURAL ASSOCIATION The ARTE VOCAL choir was established in Villanueva de la Serena on June 1, 2001 with the aim of performing polyphonic music and bringing it closer to the widest possible audience. Arte Vocal strives to stay away from archaic conceptions and to adopt a modern approach in the interpretation of choral music, which it considers a limitless form of expression based on the sound quality and the vigour of its performances.

Arte Vocal has performed Spanish choral music extensively throughout Spain and has also performed in Chile, Portugal, Italy, Sweden and Hungary. The choir has received numerous awards, including the Spanish National Grand Prix for Choral Singing and the “Folklore” category of the Grand Prix in July 2009. In October 2009, the ensemble recorded P[Z ÄYZ[ HSI\T JHSSLK ¸3P]L WLYMVYTHUJLZ Vocal Art”.

Conductor: Manuel Guisado Rodrigo. Born in Don Benito (Badajoz) in 1964, he has lived in Villanueva de la Serena (Badajoz) all his life and is currently a Music Education primary-school teacher with broad experience in Musical Pedagogy for children. Although he is largely self-taught, he studied singing with Mariana You Chi at the Merida Conservatory of Music. He has participated in choral direction courses with Julio Dominguez and Carlo Pavese, both of whom are prestigious conductors. Since 1989, he also conducts the Caceresbased Discantus polyphonic chamber group, which specializes in performing Renaissance music and is well-known and highly regarded in music circles in Extremadura.
