Welcome to New Orleans, the “Coolest Startup City in America”! The 5th New Orleans Entrepreneur Week (NOEW) is the culmination of The Idea Village’s annual Entrepreneur Season, which starts each July and engages over 3,000 individuals to allocate over $2.5 million in capital, strategic consulting, and resources to over 1,000 New Orleans entrepreneurs through 150 events. Over the next seven days, you will have the opportunity to engage with this global network of our nation’s most innovative companies, global thought leaders, entrepreneurs, CEOs, and investors including partners from Andreessen Horowitz; Battery Ventures; Calvert Funds; Caanan Partners; Denham Capital; General Atlantic; Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers; Louisiana Buyout Fund; New Markets Venture Partners; Revolution Ventures; TD Funds; Trident Capital; and TPG Capital. We are excited to welcome 48 of the best and brightest MBA students from Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Loyola, Stanford, Tulane, and Yale, the largest number of IDEAcorps teams in NOEW history. Additionally, in anticipation of the city’s tri-centennial in 2018, NOEW will host the inaugural Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Summit in partnership with the Mayor’s office, Goldman Sachs and Google, which will galvanize the broader local community to craft a vision for entrepreneurship as a vital economic engine for the future of New Orleans. The grand finale of NOEW 2013 is Friday, March 22nd, where we will showcase 32 of the top entrepreneurial ventures in New Orleans through four innovative capital access events, concluding with the world’s largest investment pitch. Think Mardi Gras for entrepreneurship! During NOEW, we believe that you will witness firsthand why the New Orleans entrepreneurial ecosystem is one of the most engaged in the world, outpacing the rest of the nation in the development of startups with entrepreneurial activity 40% above the national average. Because of the collective efforts of the community, New Orleans has been named the “#1 Brain Magnet in the Country,” by Forbes and the “Coolest Startup City in America,” by Inc.com. Join What’s Next.

Tim Williamson Co-founder and CEO The Idea Village

Welcome! In just five years, New Orleans Entrepreneur Week has quickly become a signature event in a city that celebrates everything from Mardi Gras to po-boys and our beloved Saints. NOEW reflects the creative spirit that has always been present in New Orleans. New Orleans’ creativity and innovative spirit is owned by every citizen, including some of the most talented minds in the country who’ve chosen to live, work and invest here in recent years. New Orleans has also become a hub for entrepreneurship, and we’re attracting new, high paying IT jobs, software development and digital jobs, and jobs in film production. Wall Street Journal’s MarketWatch says we’re the most improved city for business in America. And according to the U.S. Census, New Orleans is the fastest growing city in America. Support and involvement from local businesses, seasoned innovators, professionals, and the larger community are what continues to drive this thriving movement forward. I hope you’ll take advantage of the 55 different events and activities planned for this week, from all the pitch competitions to the keynote speakers, and The Big Idea extravaganza on Friday, March 22nd. More than that, I hope you’ll take time to look around and experience the warm hospitality and unique culture New Orleans has to offer. Thank you for “trusting your crazy ideas” and participating in New Orleans Entrepreneur Week! Sincerely, Mitchell J. Landrieu Mayor City of New Orleans

Hamdi Ulukaya

Founder, CEO and President, Chobani Dubbed “the Steve Jobs of yogurt” by Forbes in 2011, Hamdi Ulukaya has built a nearly $1 billion business in just five years – during this country’s worst economic crisis in decades. But Hamdi’s success is rooted in humble beginnings. He grew up in Turkey, working his family’s third-generation sheep farm and feta cheese operations. In 1994 he moved to the U.S. to learn English and during his time at SUNY Albany, he couldn’t help but notice a huge gap in the dairy product offerings between Turkey and America. In 2005, he founded Chobani and spent over 18 months perfecting the recipe for the company’s hallmark Greek Yogurt recipe and in October 2007, the first cups hit store shelves. Today, Chobani is the #1 yogurt brand in America. Hamdi’s Chenango County yogurt plant, which used to see one milk truck a day, now uses over three million pounds of milk a day and ships over 1.7 million cases each week. Under Hamdi Ulukaya’s leadership, the company has grown from five employees to almost 2,000 strong.
